Ohio River near Owensboro,Kentucky

The Heid Family lived near this river in Indiana andKentucky. It was an important thoroughfare to carry

people and goods from the east coast.

The Heid family settled in what is now Lamar, Indiana. It is avery small farming community still today.

Saint Peters Evangelical Churchin Lamar, Indiana.

Saint Peters Evangelical Church wasestablished in 1862. John Heid

(Johann) was one of the original 15men who signed the first constitution.All of the men who signed were from

Germany. For many years all theservices were in German as were therecords kept in the church. Many of

the original records have been copiedand are at the count librar .

The Heid Farm which was originally 80 acres now belongs tothe Leibering family. George, son of Johann and Katrina Heidbought the farm from his siblings after their mother, KatrinaHeid died sometime in 1900.

great grandparents.

Papa Eddie left Deanefield, Kentucky when he wasabout 15 years old and headed north to Akron

where he worked for Firestone as an inventor for

over 50 years.

This is Elmers tree. He and his sister both plantedmaple trees in the front yard when they were young.We used to climb these whenever we visited Gramma

Bessie and Papa Eddie.

There used to be a little beach on this small lake calledSandy Beach. The only thing left is a small road called

Sandy Beach Road!

John Joseph Seamons Peck and HannahAndrews Peck. They left England in 1906 andimmigrated to the United States. They are the

parents of Gramma Bessie.

A ter eav ng A ron, we ea e nort to Pont ac, M c gan.Ted was born there and Janice was baptized there. We livedon Williams Lake and attended Pontiac Lake Elementary.

The elementary school was torn down to build an airport butthe small lane we lived on is still there although the houses

have been rebuild. We used to take our little red dingy outon the lake to fish and explore. There was a little island outin the lake to the right of our house. We use to catch turtles.In the winter we ice skated on the lake and went ice fishing.

The lot next to our house was empty except for an old barn.We loved that house and our years there. The white housewith the black roof is on the lot where we lived. The newhouse to the right is on our side yard. To the right of thatwas the empty lot with the barn.

The road still dead ends at our old property line which ismarked by a white fence. There are probably 8-10

homes build on the property next to ours and the homesare built on winding blacktop driveways.

This is the view from our oldhouse across the lake.

There was a little park three houses down from us andit is still there. It seems so big when I was a girl but it

was really quite small.

Route TraveledWe flew into Chicago and rented a car. We

went to Indianapolis, then to Rockport,county seat of Spencer County, Indiana.

Then to Lamar, Indiana. We then crossedthe Ohio River into Owensboro. From

Owensboro we explored Masonville, Philpotand Deanefield, all small towns aroundOwensboro. We then traveled to Akron,Ohio and then up to Pontiac, Michigan.

From Pontiac we completed the circle anddrove back to Chicago. We flew back toSeattle from Chicago.
