General Assembly Meeting Davidson Room Sunday, April 19 th , 2015 6:00 PM Executive Board Present: Jake Thaker, Ashley Spain, Brian Streu, Lane Bennett, Emani Johnson, Tyler Casebolt, Tina Brkovic, and Crystal Ocampo-Fernandez. Senators Present: Zoey Bouras, Lily Chang, Victoria Drake, Alex Stogin, Brock Taylor, Linda Zhang, Marissa Cozzi, Robert Perez, Jennifer Chlebek, Jazmyne Kellogg, Matt Piotrowiak, Kyauna Bradley, Elizabeth Hassett, Gindy Nguyen, An Nguyen, Daniel Roadman, Inez "Kittyi" White, Gavin Schroeder, Cortney Sears, Kristen Grisamore (sub sarah jasiak), and Breck Seitz. Senators Absents: Brianna Bacigalupo, Veena Hamill, Jenn Hart, Cong Vu, Kerry Zhang, Chris Taraszka, Don Tomes, Cindy Basilio, Amy Linman, Laurel Jiang, Josie Linman, and Alyssa Shannon. 1. Call to Order a. President Thaker called the meeting to order at 6:04 PM. 2. Roll Call 3. Additions or Corrections to the Agenda 4. Reading and Approval of the Minutes: March 29 th , 2015, April 8 th , 2015, and April 12 th , 2015. a. President Thaker entertained a motion to approve the minutes as read. i. Senator Chang motioned and Senator Sears seconded. ii. President Thaker called for a voice vote, motion carried. 5. Dean’s Report a. Dean Karla Carney-Hall gave the Dean’s Report. The Civic Engagement Banquet, Undercover, and the Plant a Tree events went well. There was a fire in ORL. We are currently continuing recovery efforts. There was approximately $50,000 in damage and there was an article in the Pantagraph. Please be patient with us as we get things back up and running. Good luck on finals, have a good summer, and congrats to seniors. b. President Emeritus Isaacs asked if copiers on campus are going to be looked at because of the ORL fire. i. Dean Carney-Hall said they will be looked at, but there is no reason to believe there is a consistent problem. 6. Constituent Concerns and Ideas a. Senator Drake said the milk from the Grab and Go was curdled and expired. b. Senator White said there is a problem with the hand dryer in the women’s bathroom in Hansen. 7. Executive Officer Reports: a. Vice President i. Vice President Ashley Spain served on the Here at IWU and other committees. She will be handling a project to improve the Multicultural House. She also handled constituent concerns, helped with the alumni meet and greet, met with Mike Walsh regarding food concerns, is partnering with Civic Engagement Commissioner Ocampo for the RSO Fair, and is working on the RSO Leadership Workshop. b. Treasurer i. Current Balance: $ 148,208.92 ii. Rollover: $72,498.68 iii. FAB Approvals 1. $100.00 to I-Society to Cultural Food iv. General Assembly Meeting Davidson Room

Sunday, April 19th, 2015 6:00 PM

Executive Board Present: Jake Thaker, Ashley Spain, Brian Streu, Lane Bennett, Emani Johnson, Tyler Casebolt, Tina Brkovic, and Crystal Ocampo-Fernandez. 1. Call to Order

v. FAB Recommendations 1. $3170.00 to InterVarsity Christian Fellowship for Conferences

a. President Thaker entertained a motion to allocate $3,170 to InterVarsity Christian Fellowship for Conferences.

b. Senator Taylor motioned and Senator White seconded. c. President Thaker called for a clicker vote, motion carried.

c. Chief of Staff i. Chief of Staff Lane Bennett gave an overview of the Professor & Staff Member of the Year Awards. He also went over covering the elections next semester.

d. Media Commissioner i. Media Commissioner Tina Brkovic showed four movies, managed publicity, is working on

the planner for the next school year, collaborated with the media organizations, met with the media committee, and is hoping to start making an abbreviated version of the minutes on the website.

e. University Events Commissioner i. University Events Commissioner Tyler Casebolt served on the Summer Reading and Advising

Committee and will help present a proposal to the faculty tomorrow. He also served on the Speaker Committee. He also served on the Homecoming Coalition and the theme this year will be Titan Green Over Everything #TGOE. He helped with the Meet and Greet and is laying the groundwork for May Term events and a large event next semester.

f. Inclusion and Awareness Commissioner i. Inclusion and Awareness Commissioner Emani Johnson helped with the Ice Cream Social, the

BSU Banquet, Holy Fest, the Plant a Tree Picnic, met with Brandon Common regularly, plans on bringing two speakers next semester, is working on the Privilege Summit, and is working on the Multicultural Fest.

g. Civic Engagement Commissioner i. Civic Engagement Commissioner Crystal Ocampo tried to help with everyone’s events,

served on Curriculum Council, served on the Calendar Committee, brought in the Do Good Speaker from What Matters that had 30-40 people attend, hosted the Civic Engagement Banquet, completed volunteer events such as the Washington School Carnival, and is hoping to have a Civic Engagement Series next semester to give students off campus volunteer opportunities.

h. President i. President Thaker worked with Media Commissioner Brkovic to connect with RSOs and

served on the Academic Appeals Committee and the Presidential Search Committee. ii. Media Commissioner Brkovic presented the Senate Award to all of the Senior Senators and

the Senior Emeriti for all of their service to the Student Body. 8. Unfinished  Business

a. 2015-2016 Student Senate Precedent i. President Thaker entertained a motion to approve the proposed Precedent.

ii. Senator Stogin motioned and Senator Chang seconded. iii. President Thaker called for a clicker vote, motion carried.

b. 2015-2016 Student Senate Budget i. Senator Piotrowiak said that almost every change we talked about was made except for the

Inclusion and Awareness Speaker. The Do Good Speaker was slashed by $6,500 and he doesn’t understand why the Inclusion and Awareness Speaker is six times more important to us than the Do Good Speaker. 1. Civic Engagement Commissioner Ocampo responded that she cut the budget because she

was under the impression that she needed to bring in two speaker, but she actually only needed to bring in one.

ii. Senator Schroeder asked what happened to Epic Rap Battles of History. 1. University Events Commissioner Casebolt responded that he combined their fee with the

perfomer fee.

iii. President Emeritus Isaacs asked why the Middle Agent Fee was only cut by $1,500 because it should be 10% of the performer fee. 1. President Emeritus Isaacs entertained a motion to cut the Middle Agent Fee to $3,500. 2. Senator Sears motioned and Senator Seitz seconded. 3. President Thaker called for a clicker vote, motion carried.

iv. President Emeritus Isaacs asked why there were cuts to the Inclusion and Awareness programs that sounded like good ideas when there was no discussion about it, but there wasn’t a cut to the Inclusion and Awareness speaker that there was discussion about. 1. Inclusion and Awareness Commissioner Johnson responded that the venue for the events

will be at the Multicultural House so we don’t have to buy food from Sodexo, and we also found professors who could speak at the Privilege Summit.

2. President Emeritus Isaacs asked why we kept the speaker. 3. Inclusion and Awareness Commissioner (I&A Commissioner) Johnson said that it would

be one of her bigger events and has debated the topic that she would speak about. It would be a part of the 3D series and the $15,000 would include a lunch and inner with her and she could potentially speak in classes.

4. Civic Engagement Commissioner Ocampo asked to clarify why the Multicultural Fest would be held in the Multicultural House.

5. I&A Commissioner Johnson said that it would be cheaper and that there is a need to promote the Multicultural House.

6. President Emeritus Isaacs said that he is concerned about the amount of money tied up in this particular speaker. There are a lot of great speakers who are cheaper, and the name of the speaker doesn’t really matter.

7. I&A Commissioner Johnson responded that she is not brining in this speaker for the name, but for her message.

v. President Thaker entertained a motion to approve the budget for the 2015-2016 fiscal year. 1. Senator Seitz motioned and Senator White seconded. 2. President Thaker called for a clicker vote, motion carried.

9. New Business a. Senator of the Semester

i. Senator Breck Seitz was named the Senator of the Semester. 10. Announcements

a. Senator Sears said that on Reading Day the SAGA Breakfast doesn’t open until 8AM. There will also be an Ice Cream Social in the Commons from 9-10PM on Reading Day.

b. Advisor Colin Stewart said that on Reading Day there will be puppies and massage therapists in Hansen at 3PM.

c. Dean Carney-Hall said that PB&J Night will be on Wednesday and Thursday nights. d. University Events Commissioner Casebolt said that the vote for class officers will take place on

Tuesday. e. President Thaker said that Senator Kerry Zhang hasn’t been feeling well so we got a card for him

for everyone to sign. 11. Adjournment

a. President  Thaker  entertained  a  motion  to  adjourn. b. Senator  Chlebek  motioned  and  Senator  Seitz  seconded. c. President  Thaker  called  for  a  voice  vote,  motion  carried. d. The  meeting  adjourned  at  6:44  PM.
