Pliers ABC

Cutting Pliersfor cutting or nipping (Diagonal,Center and End Cutters,Carpenters’ Pincers, etc.)

Gripping Pliers(Flat, Long-Nose and WaterPump Pliers, etc.)

Combined Plierswhich can be used for both cutting and for gripping(Combination Pliers, Stork Beakand Radio Pliers, etc.)

Different types of joint designinclude:

Lay-on joint:The two halves of the pliers areplaced on top of each other butnot milled out.

Single joint:Half thickness of each pliershandle is milled away in the joint area so that both handlescan be laid into each other.

Box joint:One handle of the pliers is slit. The other handle is pushedthrough this slit. This joint design can withstand a highlevel of load and strain becausethe joint bolt is supported onboth sides and the pushedthrough handle has two sideways bearings.

Special Pliersfor special applications, such as for notching or punching different types of material (SheetMetal Nibbler, Tile Nibbling Pincer, etc.)

The pliers joint is formed in a number of different ways:

Forged-on joint axis:The rivet is part of one handle of the pliers (forged out of justone piece)- high level of stability for

heaviest duty- long service life

Joint with inserted rivet:A proved, sturdy and precise rivet connection for all standard pliers

Screwed joint:for particularly demanding requirements in terms of precision and smooth operation,e.g. in circlip pliers and cable cutters (even the finest multi-stranded conductors have to becut cleanly)

ExperienceKNIPEX specializes in the development and production of high-quality pliers and is Europe’s leading manufacturer of these products. It all started back in 1882 when C. GustavPutsch set up his own forge shop inCronenberg (now a suburb of Wuppertal). We are an independent fourth-generation family company.

SpecialistsWe concentrate our knowledge and expertiseon pliers. This is the only way to justify ourclaim that we are the best supplier in termsof quality, innovation and efficiency. Our success is assured by 650 qualifiedemployees and we attach the greatestimportance to their basic and advanced training.

KNIPEX – The Company

The complete range With over a thousand separate styles andsizes KNIPEX offers a complete range ofpliers for almost every application in tradeand industry. The breadth and depth of our range ensuresthat the best tool can always be found foreach application.

Quality for professionals KNIPEX pliers satisfy the highest expectationsin terms of performance, ergonomics and service life. Our products are designed tomeet the requirements of professional users, who must be able to rely on their tools inday-to-day work.

Everything under one roofIn Wuppertal we have 45,000 m2

(500,000 square feet) of factory space. All manufacturing operations, from forging (including making the forgingdie) to packaging, are done on our own premises. This method allows us to maintain stringent quality control standardsand to co-ordinate all aspects of the manufacturing process.

Tip-top technologyInnovation and high performance are notonly characteristics of the tools we makebut are also key elements in our productionengineering. Modern state-of-the-artmachinery ensures that we produce consistently high precision at the most economical cost ratio.

InnovationKNIPEX pioneers ideas in pliers design. Again and again, KNIPEX’s innovations offerfuture-oriented solutions and set standardsfor easy, effective and reliable work. For ourdevelopment work we rely on an intensivesharing of experience with users. We utilizethe most modern design technology and thehighest efficiency testing and experimentalequipment.

Partners in trade KNIPEX pliers are supplied only through distribution. We do not deliver direct to endusers. We offer our partners in trade a highlevel of inventory availability, extensive consulting and training and a wide variety ofsales support.

MaterialIn the tough and demanding world of everyday usage, KNIPEX pliers meet thechallenge to the fullest satisfaction. In terms of material and construction, they are designed to function as heavy duty toolsand deliver high load bearing capacity andlong service life.

KNIPEX throughout the worldKNIPEX pliers are in great demand throughout the world and we export over60% of our production. An internationalnetwork of distribution branches, agenciesand importers connect us to our customersin over one hundred countries.

Practical AdvantagesKNIPEX – Ergonomics

Cutting through 3-mm-diameter (1/8” dia.) binding wire using a High Leverage Concretor’s Nipperrequires only 300 N (30.0 kp) force as opposed to 412 N (41.2 kp) with anormal Concretor’s Nipper of the samelength.

Less force exerted due to the self-locking function of the "Cobra” and "Alligator”Water Pump Pliers. As the gripping jaws automatically bite tightly into theworkpiece, there is no need to squeeze the handles together. This relieves thehand muscles.

Ergonomics is the science of adapting technology to people in orderto make work easier. Pliers, like other hand tools, should support thehuman hand-arm system as effectively as possible and at the sametime keep strain and effort to a minimum.

When designing KNIPEX pliers, we give extensive consideration toergonomic criteria. Our aims are to ensure that they

– require only a minimum of force in use– assure hand and finger joints a low-stress comfortable

position when exerting force– allow good contact between the hand and handle.

High LeverageConcretors’Nippers: 27% saving inpower

KNIPEX "CoBolt”:61% saving in power

Cutting through 2-mm-diameter(1/16” dia.) piano wire using the KNIPEX "CoBolt” requires only 192 N(19.2 kp) force as opposed to 499 N(49.9 kp) with a High LeverageDiagonal Cutter of the same length.

Reduction of effortCutting hard material in particular usually requires great manual effortbut KNIPEX pliers require much less force thanks to their particularlyfavourable leverage ratios, which are to some extent due to uniquelever designs. The benefit for the user is that they noticeably reducethe amount of force he has to apply. Particularly high leverage pliersmodels in this catalogue are marked with a power symbol.
