Guest Speaker: Professor Bart Lipman

Abstract: Economic theory is often criticized for being overly mathematical and detached from reality. Bart Lipman, Professor of Economics, BU Economics Department Chairman, and expert in game theory and decision theory, argues that the math is necessary and tat being “detached from reality” is a good thing.

Responsibilities Preside over the content of the BU UEA website Head of the Writing/Presentation Committee Publication of the UEA Journal Helps set up events and presentations for the club. Must present on at least once per semester on a specific economic topic Recommended to write numerous articles

Qualifications Writing & presentation skills are a must Strong project management skills High level of commitment Ability to work under pressure and time constraints Collaboration & team work are a constant requirement Communication and ability to manage multiple relationships Passion for Economics is a must Avid reader of “The Economist” is preferable

Responsibilities Ensures clear communication between members, E-Board members,

faculty members, and fellow organizations Manage social media posts at least once per day Glorified note taker during weekly E-Board meetings Organizes the club data, including participation and member information Maintain UEA calendar & to-do-list

Qualifications Ability to clearly and humbly communicate with others High level of commitment Ability to work under pressure and time constraints Collaboration & team work Ability to multi-task effectively is a must Ability to respond to emails in an effective and efficient manner Prior experience in Google docs is expected

Responsibilities Oversees structure, design, and organization of website In charge of media as well—video, photography, etc Maintenance of friendly UI and updates Formatting, standardizing, and editing new content

Qualifications Knowledge of HTML and CSS Organized and orderly qualities are key Ability to work under time constraints Design skills—Photoshop, Illustrator, etc. Photography/video skills Eye for detail

Qualifications Design skills—Photoshop, Illustrator, etc. preferred Connection with the econ department and professors Ability to work under time constraints Teamwork & Collaboration Eye for detail and creativity Ability to network and communicate confidently
