We could take a cue from music here: 'Rest' is musical term for a pause between flurries of notes. Without that tiny pause, the torrent of notes can be overwhelming. Without a rest in our lives, the torrent of our lives can be the same. --Julia CameronWe share this with you with two ideas: 1) This membership meeting is a pause or rest for the leadership of Learning Forward Washington to reflect on our first year and look forward to whats ahead, and 2) we hope that all of you have had an opportunity to take a tiny pause and some time to rest over the summer before we begin the important work ahead.6Mission to increase student learning through actions that connect and influence state, district and school decision-makers to support powerful professional growth experiences for educators at all levels In this pause we want to take a minute to remember our mission and our comittments so they might help us focus our work and play the role of important touchstones as we decide what to do and what not to do.7CommitmentsInfluencing state and local policiesDocument evidence of impactSupporting leaders and membersInfluencing state and local policies that determine professional development plans and processes so that they reflect research-based best practices and result in high levels of student achievementContinuously seeking out new ways to build capacity among members that help districts document evidence of impact of professional learning on student achievementSupporting leaders and members through networking and knowledge sharing in order to narrow achievement gaps8CommitmentsBuilding partnerships with organizations Building trusting relationships between and among state organizations, districts, and schools

Building partnerships with organizations that prepare and support district and school leaders in order to build capacity for instructional leadershipBuilding trusting relationships between and among state organizations, districts, and schools, and communicating with non-educator thought leaders in order to deepen and sustain professional learning experiences
