AISI 1015 Lowest carbon content for superior cold forming and weld-ability.

100

AISI 1020 Carbon content improves machine-ability. Good forming and welding.

100 GENERAL PURPOSE STEELS

AISI 1025 Higher carbon content further improves machine-ability and machined surface finish.

100

ASTM A283 General purpose, low-cost structural quality plate.

Satisfactory machining and welding characteristics. 101

STRUCTURAL STEELS ASTM A36 Higher mechanical properties than A283. Silicon killed in heavier thicknesses for internal soundness. Good weld-ability

100

ASTM A572-50 High strength-low alloy steel, also known as EX-TEN 50. 50

KSI minimum yield. 124

ASTM A441 Offers 50 KSI minimum yield, plus increased corrosion resistance (two times more than carbon steel). AKA TRI-TEN.

125

ASTM A242 Resistance to atmospheric corrosion four times greater than carbon 8 steel. Excellent paint adhesion. AKA COR-TEN A.

138 HSLA STRUCTURAL STEELS

ASTM A588A Similar to A242, but has modified chemistry. Atmospheric corrosion is four times better than carbon steel. AKA COR-TEN B.

138

ASTM A514-B Lowest in cost with two times the corrosion resistance of

carbon steel. Also known as T-1 Type A & NAX. 250

ASTM A514-H Modification of A514-B chemistry to obtain the minimum mechanical properties in thicknesses over 1-1/4". AKA T-1 Type B.

270

ASTM A514-F Higher alloy modification offering 100KSI minimum yield strength thru 2 1/2" thickness and four times corrosion resistance of carbon steel. Also known as T-1.

310 ALLOY STRUCTURAL STEELS

ASTM A514-Q Higher alloy modification offering 100KSI minimum yield strength 320 thru 6" thickness'. Also known as T-1 Type C.

320

ASTM A285-C Popular, moderate strength steel for stationary service

vessels and boilers. Excellent forming and welding properties.

130

ASTM A515-70 Silicon killed carbon steel plate designed for intermediate and high temperature service. Coarse grained. As rolled through 2".

135

ASTM A516-70 Carbon-manganese-silicon steel plate for moderate and lower temperature service in PV. Improved notch toughness.

156

ASTM A517-F Same as A514-F, but produced to PVQ for endurance under thermal and mechanical stress. Thickness' to 2.5".

280

ASTM A387-G11 Chromium-molybdenum alloy steel plate intended primarily for boiler and pressure vessels designed for high temperature service.

PRESSURE VESSEL STEELS

Annealed ASTM A387-G22 Norm. & Temp.

Chromium-molybdenum alloy steel plate intended primarily for boiler and pressure vessels designed for high temperature service. Similar to grade 11 except for higher levels of chromium and molybdenum.

AR235 A high carbon and manganese abrasion resistant steel.

Approximately 235 BHN. Weldable with low hydrogen rod. 200 ABRASION RESISTANT STEELS

AR400 Heat treated, quenched and tempered AR plate. Used where 245

impact or sliding abrasion materials require tougher and harder steels to improve equipment life. Approx. 400 BHN. AKA XAR

AR500 Same as AR400, except hardness of approx. 500 BHN 275 FORM. AR400 Same as AR400, except with improved formability. 245

FORM. AR500 Same as AR500, except with improved formability. 275

ALTALLOY Similar to AR500 with the addition of Nickel, Molybdenum and chromium for added abrasion resistance and toughness.
