Energy from storage mediaThe short-term storage medium useselectrostatic wear and riction reedouble-layer capacitors (ultracaps), which:n store the energy as electricity so
it does not have to be convertedand have a high eiciency rating
n have a high power density andcycle rate
n are ideally suited to the toughconditions o proessional craneoperation.
Dynamic brake resistorsWhen the on-board diesel generator isused, energy management is improvedby the use o dynamic brake resistors, resulting in uel savings o up to15.2%*.* Achieved under specifc deployment conditions
and based on experience gained rom operatinga Gottwald Model 6 crane over a period o morethan one year.
Gottwald Harbour Cranes use elec-trical drive technology, the energysource most commonly ound inports, which means they are eco-nomical and ecologically compatible.Power is generated by an eicient,on-board diesel generator with lowuel consumption, minimum exhaustand noise emissions, which complieswith the requirements o EU Directive2000/14/EC.
Use of external power suppliesThe eiciency o Gottwald drivesystems increases still urther i thediesel generator is bypassed andthe crane drives are powered directlywith electricity rom the harbourmains. Crane owners beneit bothrom the energy recovered romthe cranes lowering and braking
motions and rom the act thatexhaust gas emissions are zero andnoise emissions in the terminalare also reduced.
Innovative hybrid drivesI the local quay inrastructure doesnot allow the crane to be connectedto the harbour mains, the newGottwald hybrid drive, made up o:n an on-board diesel generator andn electrostatic short-term storage
mediumsigniicantly improves the eiciency oGottwald Harbour Cranes. The energyrecovered during the cranes loweringand braking actions is stored andthen made available to the cranespower system or the next work cycle.Fuel savings o up to 23.2%* havebeen achieved.
Gottwalds Green Range future-orientated, innovative, sustainable
The energy eiciency o electrical drive technology is unsurpassed. Apart rom state-o-the-art diesel generators it is,in particular, the use o external power and hybrid drives that oers the highest potential or sustainable environmentalprotection and reduced overheads.
Connecting cranes directly to the terminals
low or medium-voltage power supply
provides these benefits:
n improved efficiencyn reductions in overheads such as power
and maintenancen zero exhaust emissions in the terminal
from these machinesn minimised noise pollution.
Where there is no external power supply
on the quay, Gottwalds hybrid drive is
the answer:
n improved efficiencyn reduction in fuel consumption in the
double-digit percentage rangen reduced exhaust emissionsn lower noise emissions as the diesel engine
has quieter running characteristics.
With its products and driveconcepts, Gottwald is set-
ting standards in terms of
environmental sustainability.

Perfectly conceivedBy the technological leader in Mobile Harbour Cranes
Investments in cargo-handlingequipment are dependent on thequay inrastructure, which includesthe permissible ground loadings, railgauges, clearance heights and anyexisting power supply installations.Further key actors in the decisionto purchase proessional handlingmachines are the application proile, liting capacity, annual operatinghours and delivery lead-time.
Perfectly integratedTo enable Harbour Cranes tobe integrated into all manner oexisting quay inrastructures,Gottwald can supply its machineswith modiied stabiliser pads orquays with reduced load-bearingcapabilities and cranes with individu-ally tailored portals and barges oruse on narrow quays, special-pur-pose quays and or handling cargowhere there is no suitable quay.
Turnkey solutionsWhere a turnkey handling solution isrequired, Gottwalds range o servicesincludes:n planning and consulting including
simulation or new terminals andterminal expansions
n peripheral systems such as hoppers, conveyor belts and container handlingequipment in the terminal
n interaces between peripheral sys-tems and terminal operating systems
n complete Floating Cranes includingmaritime classiication.
Short delivery timesThanks to consistent applicationo its Advance Order Programme orHarbour Cranes, which allows ampleroom or the inclusion o customer-speciic wishes, Gottwald can adhereto short delivery lead-times. Togetherwith the comparatively low speciicinvestment costs or the crane and
inrastructure, the rapid delivery is aconsiderable advantage over custom-built single-purpose machinery.
Long service lifeThe anticipated number o workcycles and, as a result, the expectedservice lie o Harbour Cranesdepend, amongst other things, onthe intensity o crane operation, the type o loading and the way thecrane is designed to deal with loads.
To ensure that, right rom the outset,an investment is made in the rightcrane with the required classiication,Gottwald conigures the crane jointlywith the terminal operator to matchthe intended application.
