c. (USMC) Special Stockage Indicator Code andReplacement Factor (Column 3).
(1) Special Stockage Indicator Code: Thiscolumn reflects the condition under which certainmaintenance parts, (parts assigned NSN's and codedin the "P" senes source code of the SMR code) arestocked. The codes are explained as follows:
I
Change 4 vii
AIR FORCE T.O. 35C2-3-443-4/ARMY TM 5-6 1-4S9-24PNAVY NAVFAC P-8-629-24P/MARINE CORPS SL-407536A
RECOVERABILITYCODES DEFINITION
No Code Indicates that the part may or may not beauthorized in initial allowances to usingor supporting organizations. The mannerof determining initial issue allowances isexplained in paragraph (2) below.
Applied to maintenance parts for whichpredicted consumption would not warrantinclusion in Mount-Out but, for which aquantity of one (1) is authorized as insur-ance for Mount-Out using a 360-daycriteria. This criteria is based on thetotal density of equipments employed bythe DIV/WING TEAM. Mount-Out allow-ances, so authorized, will be stocked bythe FSR or the MWSG in the case ofMarine Wing peculiar equipment, asapplicable.
D Applied to maintenance parts that are notconsidered critical or essential to be onhand and are, therefore, not authorizedin initial allowances; however, these itemsare stocked within the Supply System andmay be requisitioned based upon usage.
T Indicates that the part is authorized ingarrison operating allowances in order tocomply with state and local laws; however, the part is not authorized in Mount-Outsince it is not combat essential.
(2) Replacement Factor. This column reflectsthe replacement factor assigned to each nationallystocked numbered maintenance repair part. Thisfactor is assigned to the repair part on its firstappearance in the publication. The replacementfactor, expressed as a decimal, indicates the aver-age rate at which the type of item so coded has beenused by Marine Corps field units or the rate at whichdesign engineers anticipate the item will fail, wearout, or otherwise require replacement. All computa-tions are based on a replacement period of one year. Therefore, a replacement factor of 0. 008, appliedto an item in this stock list, indicates that eight outof every one thousand of such items used in the enditem of equipment to which this publications per-tains, is predicted to need replacement in one year.Likewise, 0.004 reflects that four out of everythousand in use are predicted to require replacementin one year, while 2. 0 shows that every one in use ispredicted to be replaced twice during each year.
(a) Initial authorized stockage levels of consum-able and salvageable items for an organization are tobe computed for predicted consumption based on thenumber of items employed and/or supported by anorganization within the number of days for whichstockage is authorized. In computing GarrisonOperating Stock or Mount-Out, authorized levels canbe determined by the requiring Marine Corps unit bymultiplying the replacement factor times the quantityused per equipment times the number of end itemsemployed by the using organization or supported by
the service organization times the authorized daylevel expressed in months and divided by 12.Specific formulas and examples are provided inMarine Corps Order, MCO P4400. 79.
The replacement factors used in initial stockagecomputations, should be revised, if warranted, aftersignificant usage is experienced in accordance withthe guidelines of MCO 4400. 32A. The followingformula replacement factor, "X" represents actualusage experience (1 year), "A" represents the appli-cation per equipment, and "B" represents the numberof equipments supported.
XW' A x B
(b) Initial allowances for maintenance floatitems (recoverability codes "R" and "D" for theFMF and appropriate post and stations are as furn-ished by Initial Issue Actions.
Changes to maintenance replacement rates result-ing from actual usage may require recomputation ofmaintenance float allowances by holding units. Anyrequired recomputation of maintenance float allow-ances will be made in accordance with MCO 4000. 6.
(c) The replacement factor for same as (S/A)items is indicated upon the first appearance of theitem in the major combination, component orassembly.
(d) (All) National Stock Number (Column 4) indi-cates the National Stock Number assigned to the itemand will be used for requisitioning purposes.
(e) (All) Description (Column 5). Indicates theNational item name and any additional description ofthe item required. The abbreviation "w/e" whenused as part of the nomenclature, indicates theNational Stock Number includes all armament, equip-ment, accessories, and repair parts issued with theitem. A part number or other reference number isfollowed by the applicable five-digit Federal SupplyCode for manufacturers in parentheses. Repairparts quantities, including kits, sets, and assem-blies, are shown in front of the repair part name.
(f) (All) Unit of Measure (U/M) (Column 6). Atwo character alphabetic abbreviation indicating theamount or quantity of the item upon which the allow-ances are based, e. g., ft, ea, pr, etc.
(g) (All) Quantity Incorporated in Unit (Columno).Indicates the quantity of the item used in the assem-bly group. A "V' appearing in this column in lieu ofa quantity indicates that a definite quantity cannot beindicated (e.g., shims, spacers, etc. ).
(h) (MC) Quantity per equipment (Column 8).Indicates the consolidated quantity of a maintenancepart used on an end item upon the parts first appear-ance in this publication.
