Did You Know? The Ashtabula County Fair Grounds in Jefferson grand stand was refurbished and painted before the 2019 fair took place in August!

The local Geneva paper The Pride of Geneva was in business from August 2009 until November 2018 when it went out of business.

Ashtabula County, being situated in Ohio’s northeast corner on the shores of Lake Erie, is home to twenty-four wineries, nineteen covered bridges, two state parks, and a metro park.

The Geneva Area Chamber hosted a Candidates Night on October 2, 2019 at the Geneva Community Center. The event was for the public to gather information to be more informed to vote in the general election. There were a few levies that representatives gave details on: Ashtabu-la County Board of Development Disabilities, Geneva Area City Schools, and Geneva Union Cemeteries.

The contested races and candidates who were present was given three minutes to address the audience. Those present were able to write down questions to be asked and answered by the candidates after each race spoke.

The opposed candidates for the local elections who spoke were as follows Geneva Area City School Board has two seats: Sarah Lewis-Fisher, Michele L. Krieg, and Amber L. Metzler. Geneva Township Trustee has one seat. Present and spoke were: Leroy Caranci, Timothy Miller; not present were Denny Brown and Ken Junker. Geneva City Council has four seats. Present and spoke were: write-in James E. Baehr, Jeffrey A. Griffiths, Susan Hagan, and Robert Rosebrugh; not present were Mario Butera and Phillip E. Cordova.

Everyone enjoyed refreshments. There was a lot of good information that was shared, and questions that were asked and answered. Remember to vote at the polls on November 5, 2019.

Congratulations Grape Jamboree Royalty The 56th Annual Grape Jamboree new queens: Miss Grapette Melina Cruz, Junior Miss Grapette Allanah

Burkholder, Young Miss Grapette Jordan Verdi, and Little Miss Grapette Mireya Miller.

The Geneva Area Chamber Fall Dinner was September 23, 2019 at Ferrante Win-ery and Ristorante. Tours were given of the winery showing the storage and bottling process. Mary Jo Ferrante conducted the wine tasting of three new Ferrante wines: Gewurztraminer, Grand River Valley Riesling, and Bubbly Star Seeker. Every-one enjoyed a delicious meal and wine as well as visiting with others at the tables, and listening to the evening entertainment, Ad-am Culvert. Dave Johnson, Geneva Grape Jamboree President, gave an update on what to

expect at the 55th Annual Geneva Grape Jamboree. He then introduced Adam Culvert, a county western singer. His show consists of high-energy new country, favorite classic hits, as well as some of his original songs that were just recently re-leased. Everyone heard a little of what to expect at this year’s

Jamboree. The 2019 Miss Grapette, Melinda Cruz, a junior in high school, was intro-duced and had a few words to say. This was a great kickoff to 2019 Grape Jamboree!
