Food Truck Sushi Oglethorpe AB Chef Austin Scott; Instructor, Jordan High SchoolCome see Fun & SAFE techniques to teach sushi that will appeal to everyone. In this class you’ll learn how make Chef Scotts BBQ Style sushi (commonly referred to as Queshi) which he serves on his food truck at special events. In this session you will use nori wrap, smoked meats, pickled veggies, molds, sushi mats and learn which sushi rice is user friendly. These can be pre-rolled & wrapped for later use and are great for caterings and school run cafes. This session will concentrate on methods only with no recipes distributed, as ingredients can be tailored to palate, region and available ingredients. The use of raw �sh will not be covered. Science of the Senses Savannah Ballroom E Alexis Roberts; Bartow County FACS Extension, University of Georgia Carin Booth; Hall County FACS Extension, University of Georgia MaryBeth Hornbeck; Rockdale County 4-H & FACS Extension, University of Georgia UGA Extension will be presenting the “Science of the Senses” lesson plans. The curriculum provides students with an introduction to sensory science including factors that in�uence taste and acceptability, sensory evaluation panels, careers in sensory science, and much more. The lesson plans are designed for middle and high school ages. Each lesson features a classroom presentation, interactive and engaging activities, a leader’s guide, and evaluations. In addition, each lesson also includes additional enrichment activities that can stand alone. After a discussion of the curriculum, we will conduct a sensory evaluation activity featured in the curriculum. Presenters will lead the workshop from the teacher’s perspective and discuss how smell and sight in�uence taste. MS, HT, HS

Teaching as a Profession Lesson Plan Sharing Pulaski Bethany Gilliam, Statesboro High School Come to this workshop and create lesson plans and activities for the Teaching as a Profession Pathway. Teachers will have the opportunity to work in groups on individual standards, creating lesson plans and activities to be used in the classroom. All lesson plans and activities will be shared through a TAP speci�c Google Drive. Come experience an interactive laundry lesson plan to incorporate STEM education in the classroom through laundry care. The hands-on activities feature the use of science to make your own laundry detergent and understand the energy process necessary to clean clothes. Are Food Products Really as Good as They Appear? Don’t Be Fooled! Academy Roxie Price, Tift County FACS Extension, University of GeorgiaThis stations based workshop will explore multiple aspects of nutritional information as well as the labeling and packaging of food items including; reading the nutrition facts panel, “buzzwords” in marketing of food products, utilizing MyPlate as a nutritional resource, nutrient claims and their de�nitions, and understanding nutrient dense versus empty calories. Teachers will participate in stations as their students would inside the classroom. In addition, teachers will receive an outline of the lesson that pairs with each station, have access to a PowerPoint elaborating on the information covered in the session, as well as access to the materials needed for the activities. Middle and High School Students learn that healthy relationships begin with the individual—identifying personal strengths and weaknesses, understanding how one’s past in�uences the present, and the importance of attending to one’s own growth and development. Introduction to Food Fermentations FranklinElizabeth Andress; Extension Food Safety Specialist, University of Georgia Food fermentations demonstrate the science of how bene�cial microorganisms create some of our popular foods such as sauerkraut, pickles, and yogurt. This session will talk about microbes that carry out fermentations, the reactions taking place in foods, conditions and critical controls needed for successful fermentations to protect food safety, possible classroom activities or experiments to engage students, and evaluating various recommended procedures. Participants will understand (1) bene�cial roles of bacteria in the food supply, (2) the science of yeast and bacterial fermentations, and (3) critical controls in evaluating the food safety of fermentation procedures. Early Childhood Education Lesson Plan Sharing Session Savannah Ballroom DAroneysa Braxton-Harris; Instructor, Cedar Grove High School Educators have expertise in helping students learn the subject matter they teach. In this session educators will collaborate and share standards aligned learning resources in Early Childhood Education such as lesson plans, activities, classroom management strategies and projects. Each person is required to bring 30 copies of at least 2 lesson plans, activities, or projects they use in their Early Childhood Education class to share with the group. FACS Extension), University of GeorgiaThe “I Have What It Takes to Be Your Teen Babysitter” curriculum is designed to help middle school teenagers learn what it takes to be a great babysitter. It utilizes a combination of classroom instruction, quizzes, hands-on activities, and roleplaying to teach teens about the many aspects of babysitting. Teens learn about the stages of development for all age ranges. They also learn to develop a babysitter’s toolbox for dealing with misbehavior. Teachers participating in this workshop will learn how to familiarize teenagers with the skills they need to be safe and responsible babysitters. We will highlight each chapter, explain conducting the activities, and will make a Boo-Boo Bunny to take home. MS, ET

Teaching the Teaching as a Profession Pathway AcademyCharity Master; Instructor, E�ngham County High School In this session, we will go over how to incorporate shadowing/interning in a traditional school schedule. Ever wonder how we make it through the year with classroom standards, portfolio, shadowing, EOPAs, and more. What works and doesn't work. Lesson plans and pacing guides for the 1st and 2nd courses will be shared. How do we encourage people to assist with shadow days and mentoring? In this session you will use nori wrap, smoked meats, pickled veggies, molds, sushi mats and learn which sushi rice is user friendly. These can be pre-rolled & wrapped for later use and are great for caterings and school run cafes. The curriculum provides students with an introduction to sensory science including factors that in�uence taste and acceptability, sensory evaluation panels, careers in sensory science, and much more. The lesson plans are designed for middle and high school ages. Each lesson features a classroom presentation, interactive and engaging activities, a leader’s guide, and evaluations. In addition, each lesson also includes additional enrichment activities that can stand alone. After a discussion of the curriculum, we will conduct a sensory evaluation activity featured in the curriculum. Teens learn about the stages of development for all age ranges. They also learn to develop a babysitter’s toolbox for dealing with misbehavior.
