JOB SUMMARY Under limited supervision, interprets U.S. Grade Standards, Federal and State Marketing OrdersIAgreements and USDA- MOAB 7CFR, Part 996 Regulations Requirements, abides by Principles of lnspection and Rules of Conduct of First 43 Paragraphs in General Shipping Point lnspection Instructions handbook. Supervises or participates in drawing rppr~s~ntat ive earnplea of praducts and mnmlyzss samples to eletermlne quality, condition, size, count and/or weight of fresh t r u ~ t s , vegetables, peanuts and tree nuts. Completes inspection notes and issues Federal-State certificates, as applicable, cert~fy~ng products analyzed. Inspectors are guided by written and oral instructions, an initial on-job-training period, and annual refresher classes.

SHIPPING POINT INSPECTOR I

PRIMARY JOB DUTIES

1, Sample fruits/vegetables according to instructions in General andlor commodity Handbooks and incoming Farmers' Stock Peanuts and outgrade peanuts with Pneumatic Sampler in a timely manner and according to official probe pattern chart and other written instructions.

Analyze sample(s) in accordance with Farmers' Stock Peanut lnspection Procedures by Steps, and other commodities according to commodity handbook and other written instructions authorized by Federal Program Managers.

Perform duties of Lead Inspector when applicable.

Check, operate and properly maintain all pieces of grading equipment to ensure equipment is properly calibrated, adjusted and exhibits USDA-FSIS seal of approval prior to inspection.

Follow USDA, AMS & MOAB Sampling Plan for all Milled peanut lots and identify grade, check, and aflatoxin samples according to milled peanut inspection instructions.

Sample milled peanuts with Hand Trier, Vacuum Type, Automatic or Pneumatic Samplers or other USDA approved methods in accordance with written instructions.

Analyze grade samples of milled peanut lots and determine compliance or noncompliance with USDA-MOAB 7CFR, Part 996 Peanuts Regulations, U.S. Grade Standards, APSA Grades and other industry specifications, as applicable.

Insure proper Positive Lot Identification procedures are applied and correctly certified, and maintain accountability of all PLI seals, tags and imprinting devices as applicable.

Maintain accountability, issue and distribute Federal-State lnspection Service certificates and related forms as required including electronic certificates as applicable.

Abide by Principles of Inspection, Rules of Conduct specified in First 43 paragraphs of General SPI Instructions handbook.

Other Related Duties: Maintain positive lot identification of all official samples. Travel to various packing- houses and processing plants throughout the state to sample, inspect, and certify various fruits, vegetables, tree nuts and peanuts. Maintain updated lnspection Instructions, U.S. grade standards and other supplemental instructions on all cornmoditice listed on ferdorcPI llesnee earel. Clean gradlng faellltles and equipment daily when applicable. Perform other related duties as required.

Maintain cordial and professional personal working relations with management, peers, subordinates and industry related personnel in a manner that promotes attainment of work objectives and poses no significant problems.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

High School diploma or equivalent required. Some previous Federal-State Inspection Service experience preferred. The

President andlor State Supervisor may wave the above requirements if an individual has exceptional qualities.

Necessarv Special Reauirements:

* Position requires a Federal License card: Persons with a Criminal background as a felon can not hold position.

* Ability to distinguish various hues of color.

* Ability to read, understand and legibly write/print simple language.

* Possess adequate vision and ability to detect and identify defectsldisorders of products analyzed with assistance of glasses, if necessary

* Ability to correctly perform simple mathematical calculations including percentage computations with a calculator.

* Must possess a valid State Motor Vehicle License and have personal, dependable transportation available during work hours.

* Ahility to relate in te profeesionoll, friendly manner to coworkers, supervisors, applicants and related industry personnel who may at times display a hostile and uncooperative attitude.

* Must score 75 or better on aptitude test, 75 or better on final exam of new training and refresher training classes, score 100 on A-Flavus mold exam, if applicable, and score 75 or higher on all grading exercises.

Must demonstrate ability to satisfactorily perform range of duties outlined above to be qualified for USDA-FPB Federal License for Farmers' Stock Peanuts within two weeks after completion of new training school and Shelled Peanuts within one year from appointment to position.

Personal Appearance & Demeanor Standards

Personal appearance guidelines for employees are as ~follows:

For Office Personnel: An employee's use of discretion in style of dress is essential to the productive and efficient operation of the workplace. Therefore, while performing duties for the Employer, you will dress in attire appropriate to the business environment and you will behave in a professional and businesslike manner.

Your work clothing should be appropriate for the nature of your work. For example, front office employees and supervisory personnel who are in contact with our customers and the public may dress in casual, comfortable clothing, but still maintain a business-like image.

Professional clothing is cloth'ing traditionally worn in business settings in our community. Examples for men include: Suits, dress shirts, ties and dress shoes kept clean and polished. Examples for women include: Dresses, skirts, slacks, blouses and shoes kept clean and polished.

Casual clothing is less formal than professional clothing, However, casual clothing also is neat and clean. Exam~les of casual clothina: Cotton shirts and blouses open at the neck, sweaters, khaki pants and slacks, if clean, neat, and not frayed and in good condition. Jeans are authorized on Fridays unless notified by your Supervisor.

For Inspectors and Inspettor's Aides Workinlglln or Outside District Office: Work clothes must be clean, neat, and in good repair so that they do not create a safety hazard for you. i

Ragged or loose clothing, dangling chains, bracelets and earrings, tie belts and any other items that are consldered a risk to your safety are not allowed including any item prohibited in any applicant's healthlsafety guidelines while working in their facility.

Jeans and cords that are in good condition are acceptable. Shirts may be short-sleeved or long-sleeved, but may not be tank tops or t-shirts. Shlrts with tails must be tucked into trousers. Jogging suits are not acceptable.

While your comfort during warm weather is important, employees will not sacrifice professional good taste for oomfort. Therefore, the following guidelines apply:

Shorts or culottes will be no shorter than two inches above the knee Shorts or culottes of knit fabric or spandex fabric are not acceptable. A cotton, blend, or denim fabric is acceptable.

For safety reasons, footwear for eniployees other than office staff will completely cover the feet. Thongs and sandal$ are not acceptable. A sturdy, leather work-type shoe with a rubber composition sole is recommended, and socks must be worn.

For safety reasons, you must contain hair that falls below the base of the neck or tip of the nose by using a hair net, rubber band or clasp to hold the hair close to the head. Beards or goatees in excess of one and one-half inches are not permitted. In addition, employees must conform to any applicant's health and sanitation guidelines when working in their facility.

ALL PERSONNEL:

Sexually provocative clothing such as excessively tight, tom or revealing jeans, shirts and blouses, or clothing with spaghetti straps or that reveals bare backs, midriffs, or shoulders is not permitted.

While performing duties for the Employer, employees will not expose tattoos, wear nose rings, wear rings or jewelry in tongues or navels,'or wear any other form of flesh-piercing or body "art" (except earrings). Punk and excessively bright-colored or eccentric hairstyles are not acceptable. At no time will employees wear clothing tHat is imprinted with illustrations or messages that could be demeaning or insulting to w-workers br our applicants.

Caps, scarves and other head coverings will not be worn in the training room during formal training time, except for religious or health reasons, which are explained to and approved by the Training - Officer or Director. Employees desiring to wear clothing different from the guidelines in this policy may do so for religious or health reasons, which are explained to and approved by their Supervisor and the Director.

Employees will practice good personal hygiene regardless of the type of work being performed.

Regardless of the above rules, any omissions, any mode of dress, hairstyling, or any mode of appearance that could be embarrassing to Georgia Federal-State Shipping Point Inspection Service will not be tolerated.

Employees failing to comply with 'these standards of dress and appearance are subject to disciplinary action, which may include termination.

Overtime will be paid bi-weekly based on 1 112 times hourly rate for all hours worked in excess of 8 hours Monday thru Friday, and all day Saturday and Sunday. (WEEK: Friday thru Thursday]

Step increases are based on consecutive years of sewice. If an employee skips one or more crop years, upon their return they will not advance to the next pay step, instead they return to the same pay step they had on last year they worked.

Employees will be reimbursed at the rate of .46 cent per mile for all approved mileage.

Annual leave is accrued at the rate of 2:46 minutes per hour. (80 Hour period = 3.7 hours) NO SICK LEAVE ACCRUED.
