“Truth is, if any metal items inside your junk drawer happen to bump a 9-volt battery stored inside that drawer, then a fire could happen. Ideally, you should keep batteries in their original packaging — because it was designed to keep the battery terminals from touching. If you store batteries loosely outside of their original packaging, then put a strip of electrical tape over the battery terminals of each 9-volt battery.”

Georgian Bay Fire Department advised of a Junk Drawer Fire in P.E.I... and need you to know this is very relevant.

After putting up Christmas decorations this year, a resident in P.E.I. had some extra batteries left over and did what many people do — tossed them in a drawer for future use. The loose batteries sparked a fire that could have destroyed his Charlottetown, P.E.I., home. The resident advised he had no idea batteries could pose such a danger, and he is sharing his story to warn others — with experts saying such fires are more common than most Canadians realize. Health Canada says it received more than 100 consumer reports over the last year involving batteries — everything from overheating to starting fires.

MacTier welcomed the @CPHoliday Train for the 20th season arriving into MacTier on November 30, 2018. Hundreds of guests, residents and business owners gathered outside the Georgian Bay Public Library (MacTier Branch) for a festive cele-bration and singing holiday tunes with Kelly Prescott, Terri Clark and

Sieara Noble (all seen bottom left) . The crowds delighted when Mayor Larry Braid recieved a cheque for $7,000 to support the MacTier Food Bank. The enthusiasm of the crowd and the hundreds of pounds of food that were collected at the event all help to support healthy donations in MacTier. The train continued into Parry Sound and further on its cross Canada Tour.
