Plan of Attack
Findability, Accessibility and Portability
Geo and non-geo examples of ways to do some these
What can we learn from all this?
Web of Data (and Services)
Data sources and services are the center of the Web (Facebook, Amazon, Flickr, Twitter, dopplr, etc.), not pages
The world makes the data (some exceptions)
The developers make the data open via standards, APIs, badges, widgets... (some exceptions)

Different Approaches
Data Portability - the option to use your personal data between trusted applications and vendors (http://www.dataportability.org/)
Data Availability - MySpace offers this with partners: Yahoo!, eBay, Photobucket, and Twitter, no storage, just appears when “called,” actual data is not stored or useable
OpenSocial/Friend Connect - a set of common APIs for building social applications across many websites, build one social app, run on many platforms
