The German chemical industry is the number one in Europe and the fourth largest in the world. Located in the center of Europe, approximately 40 German chemical parks offer exceptional condi-tions for investors. Chemical companies locating here can concentrate entirely on production, as site operators provide a highly developed infrastructure, supply energy and water, and take care of safety and security aspects and waste disposal.

All European sales markets can be served in optimum fashion from Germany. Products reach virtually every European destination in the shortest time – by land, water or air. That is why German chemi-cal parks provide the ideal location to gain a foothold in the European market. What’s more, involving a large number of different chemical companies brings to-gether many different competences in one location. This creates synergies which investors can use to their own advantage. These are just a few of the many benefits of German chemical parks and sites. Such advantages pay off in considerably lower investment costs and rapid start-up of plants. All of these factors make German

chemical parks and sites particularly attractive for:

Producers of raw materials;

Processors and refiners of chemical

preliminary products;Manufacturers of end products from

chemical intermediates and renewable resources;Biotechnology companies;

Companies in the processing industry.

Investors will find a highly developed in-frastructure in the German chemical parks. In the last ten years, large chemi-cal companies have frequently outsourced services and duties in order to concen-trate on their research and development as well as production. As a result, inde-pendent location operators emerged who, as local players, have decades of experi-ence in operating chemical plants. That is why the operators are able to respond di-rectly to the requirements of chemical companies on-site. An extensive range of services and a chemical industry infra-structure with well constructed transpor-tation routes, supply and disposal lines are hallmarks of the German chemical

parks. Also, the chemical parks are char-acterized by an excellent research and development environment and by excel-lently qualified staff.

CeChemNet

BASF Ludwigshafen

The network of the central German chem-ical sites, the Central European Chemical Network (CeChemNet), combines the six sites in Bitterfeld, Leuna, Schkopau, Böh-len, Zeitz and Schwarzheide with about 5500 hectares. There are 600 companies operating with 27000 employees.

This is where outstanding chemical ex-pertise goes hand in hand with popular acceptance of chemical engineering. What makes this region outstanding are its competitive conditions, an infrastruc-ture designed with your production facili-ties in mind and qualified workers ready to perform. Alone since 1990, more than 100 billion euros from private and public funds have been invested in industrial plants, logistics and science centres.

With synergies owing to the feedstock integration in the Central German chemi-cal triangle and the specific profile of each chemical site in terms of R & D the CeChemNet sites are well set for the glo-bal competition for investments.

BASF’s Ludwigshafen site is the world’s largest integrated chemical complex under single management. Production facilities, energy and waste flows, logis-tics and infrastructure are closely inter-connected here. The company is looking for partners who fit into this network of products, processes and services and can strengthen it further to the benefit of both partners. To strengthen the site further now also markets a broad portfolio of technical equipment and services, in-creasingly to external companies.

The partner companies utilize BASF’s integrated product and know-how net-work. This includes the supply of raw materials and our competence in the use of difficult-to-handle materials through to a broad range of technical services and solutions. The advantage for BASF is that capacity can be utilized more fully, value-adding chains are strengthened and the partners help to enhance the existing infrastructure of the site.

ChemCologneChemCologne is an association that sets out to develop the region’s attractiveness and competitiveness for the chemical in-dustry and to make it better known among domestic and foreign investors as an at-tractive location for chemical investment. The Greater Cologne area and its sur-roundings form one of the most important chemical regions in Europe. No other area with a million inhabitants’ city in Europe is such heavily influenced by the chemical industry and all kinds of related downstream processing.

In 2007, the chemical industry in Co-logne’s Chamber of Industry and Com-merce district added up to €16.9 billion, which was more than 30 % of the entire turnover of the chemical industry in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia or more than 10 % of the entire turnover of Ger-many’s chemical industry.

Including the adjacent areas next to Cologne, chemistry’s influence becomes even more noticeable: with nearly €34 billion in 2007 this region – the Rhine-land – contributed 62 % of the total chem-ical turnover on a state level or 20 % nationally. Over 400 companies, ranging from highly specialized small and medium-sized companies to the real big players in the chemical industry can be found here.

Several chemical and industrial parks have evolved from “traditional” sites, pro-viding infrastructure and services spe-cially set up to meet customer demands as well as completely „ready-for-chemi-cals“ developed grounds. They all have excellent connections to the logistics net-work of the Cologne region and access to the European pipeline grid for raw mate-rials and intermediate products.

ChemCoastChemCoast, which includes the North German chemical locations of Brunsbüt-tel, Seelze, Stade, Walsrode and Wilhelm-shaven, is well equipped for the future: With extensive investments as well as numerous activities and projects.

Situated in the centre of Europe with good connections to modern harbor facil-ities and direct access to international maritime routes ChemCoast guarantees the transport of raw materials and prod-ucts throughout the world. Modern road and rail networks are also an essential infrastructure for time-optimized product logistics. The modern and fully services industrial sites are coupled with a skilled workforce. The ChemCoast Initiative is closely linked with the economic develop-ment agencies in Lower Saxony and Schles wig-Holstein. This means that we have a joint marketing strategy and no unnecessary red tape in our processing procedures.
