Nestled on Milwaukee’s northwest side is thecharming community of Germantown. The areaoffers a pleasing, small-town character enhancedby all the modern amenities of a first classsuburb. Germantown
residents take advantage ofexceptional schools, modernhealthcare providers, attractive realestate, well-maintained parks andfacilities as well as a fantastic medleyof unique shops and local restaurants. And while the village and itssurrounding area has worked hard toprovide its residential base with thefinest in big-city conveniences, it hasequally worked hard to maintain itsrich German heritage and beautifultraditional fachwerk architecture.
The village of Germantown isrecognized as Washington County’soldest settled town, having enticed agreat number of German settlers backin the 1840s. The area served as acrossroads of sorts, with travelerscoming through to reach locations tothe north and south. As a result ofthis traffic and the settlement’s ideal locale near Milwaukee, many businesses established residence here in order toaccommodate the needs of the many passersby.
The Germantown area continued to develop with thewelcoming of two major railroads and the discovery of limestoneformations. As Germantown’s economic vitality boomed, itspopulation steadily increased. Today, the village of Germantown
is a solid community of just under20,000, with the surroundingcommunities comprising WashingtonCounty totaling nearly 132,000 people.
The Germantown area has seenincredible growth, both residentially andeconomically, over the last 10-plus years. Its location on Milwaukee’s northwestside appeals to suburban lifestyles, whileits friendly demeanor and preservationof natural green space and outdoorrecreational areas appeal to a more ruralway of living. The area continues to bean attractive place for singleprofessionals, retirees and families alike, earning spots on Money magazine’s list of“Great American Towns; Best Places toLive” in 2007, 20009 and 2011 and, most recently, garnering recognition asone of Family Circle magazine’s “TenBest Towns for Families” in 2011.
Whether you live here, commute from out of town or are justvisiting, the Germantown area welcomes all to come experienceits unique way of life—Willkommen!
