DONATE A BUILDING Re-housing destitute families Fund a social building program for destitute families (severe poverty, climatic disasters, emergencies, slums...) After a disaster or simply because they are destitute or living in slums, some families need to be re-housed with sustainable solutions. AVN can help re- house these families in partnership with a local NGO that can identify the families and supervise the implementation of the project. At the same time, members of the community will be trained in the NV technique, empowering them to develop an autonomous local market Example: Selavip has financed the re-housing of several families after a flood in Burkina Faso An opportunity for the apprentices to learn faster Building several houses at the same time in the same place is a real opportunity for the apprentices to learn rapidly how to become skilled NV masons. It creates a temporary training center where the apprentices can learn the different techniques on the job, taught by the experienced NV masons. CHARACTERISTICS - 25 houses built (25m2 each) $600 /house - 25 families of 5 people re-housed - several masons trained - 5 months in total for the construction Cost: 25,000 USD* Includes supervision and coordination cost (20 %) and family participation to make bricks. * This is an average cost. It varies depending the country of construction, the finishes and the population’s implication. You are a philanthropist, an NGO, a development institution, a company... > AVN will link you with selected NV entrepreneurs to construct such buildings > AVN will quality control those buildings as part of your investment

The first NV buildings - the power to convince people

One of the cultural barriers to the acceptance of the NV concept is that most people have never seen a vaulted roof before, and can’t imagine that a roof without timber or iron support can stand by itself. But once the people have seen a NV for themselves and have felt its advantages, they are very likely to adopt this technique for their future houses.

Participation by the local community

Community members often take an active part in the construction of NV houses, helping to carry the water, dig the earth, mix the earth and water, build the bricks and carry them to the building site. This unskilled labor represents 70 % of the work in the construction of a Nubian Vault.

a fast way to start a local market

Financing a re-housing program is one of the most efficient ways to rapidly build up the market, because it generates demand from the clients that have seen the first buildings and want to build more.
