De-SOx with EGCS (“Scrubber”):
Resolution MEPC.259(68) 2015 Guidelines for
Exhaust Gas Cleaning Systems ("2015 EGCS
Guidelines")
International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ship
(MARPOL Convention) - Annex VI)

Getting it right: selecting the right filters for emissions technology
2021 Exhaust Gas Cleaning System
• PureteQ was established in 2010 to invent and patent technologies that could transform Environmental issues into sustainable solution.
• Owned by a Danish Billionaire Erik Skjaerbaek and some of the employees.
• HQ situated in Svendborg, Denmark. Branches in:
• PureteQ Japan KK, Tokyo• PureteQ GmbH, Hamburg• PureteQ China
• Since 2014 development of patented SOx scrubbers for maritime application.
• 1st Hybrid Scrubber system installed and commissioned in spring of 2015. Since then, more than 100 operational and approved scrubber
• Now also involved in numerous International CO2 Capture Project and PtX.
Expertise – what we do

Open or Hybrid Scrubber System
Closed Loop systems are designed in accordance with the ships actual operational pattern (sizing of systems including tanks such as holding tanks and circulation tanks + residue)
Selecting a water treatment system
Technologies:
• Conveyor belts
• Ceramic filtration
• Multi layer filtration
• Centrifuges
• Combination of the above
Environmental considerations:
• What are the future limits for bleed off
• Bio Accumulative Substances
• PAH (Oil)
• Power consumption
• After treatment of residues (handling/storage)
• Type of coagulant and or flocculants + cleaning agents
OPEX versus CAPEX
• Low cost and high operation cost or ?
• EEDI/XI, CII
User friendly:
• Low maintenance
• Complexity – ease of use
• Reliability
• Training (“touch and go” crews)
• Easy to read manuals
Connectivity:
• Control system integration
• Realtime remote access
• Data logging & Reporting
Future:
• Upgrades to stricter regulation ?
• Scrubbers + Carbon Capture Storage CCS Technologies
• Fluid cleaning/filtration
• Still EGR systems
