Master Data Management
Master Data Management
Master data is the consistent and uniform set of identifiers and extended attributes that describes the core entities of the enterprise including customers, prospects, citizens, suppliers, sites, hierarchies and chart of accounts.

Pain Points from existing set up
- Cycle time – Monthly changes due to the democratic set up
- Time and effort to manage multiple DRMs
- Monthly batch Validations before publishing master data
- Visibility of the changes coming in at application level
- Visibility Centrally of who is consuming what
- DRG workflows handling validations without risking the application performance
- Data Catalog – Glossary, Usage of the properties, Object dependencies

Moving to cloud/EDM
Productivity – IT no longer has to support the infrastructure and upgrades, become more productive
Customizations – Less scope
Cost of ownership
Better scalability – Data and usage
Accelerated deployments – Faster deployments and realizing value quickly
Timely upgrades & new features – Oracle typically adds new features every 2 months and adds them to cloud first

EDM & POC
EDM from OracleEnterprise Data Management is a new product
New Oracle EPM cloud product
❑ Released in Jan 2018❑ Brand new application and design, not DRM in the cloud❑ Like other EPM cloud products, has active releases every
month
❑ Nov 19 – Audit for transaction history. you can use audit to view transaction history
❑ Oct 19• FCCS Application type• Expressions for Custom Business Logic
15
EDM from OracleEnterprise Data Management

Applications - are models of each connected system (e.g. FCCS, E/PBCS)
Dimensions - are enterprise data grouped together within each application. Each Dimension is powered by a Data Chain:
Requests – Requests are the only way the data is created or changed in EDM
Viewpoints - are where users view and work with application data
Views - are a collection of Viewpoints
EDM from OracleWith EDM Oracle goes beyond simple masterdata
Master Data: The core data within the enterprise that describes objects around which business is conducted. It typically changes infrequently and can include reference data that is necessary to operate the business. Master data is not transactional in nature, but it does describe transactions. The critical nouns of a business that master data covers generally fall into four domains and further categorizations within those domains are called subject areas, sub-domains or entity types.
Reference Data: A special type of master data used to categorize other data or used to relate data to information beyond the boundaries of the enterprise. Reference data can be shared across master or transactional data objects (e.g. countries, currencies, time zones, payment terms, etc.)
Hierarchical Data: Data that stores the relationships between other data. It may be stored as part of an accounting system or separately as descriptions of real world relationships, such as company organizational structures or product lines. Hierarchical data is sometimes considered a super MDM domain because it is critical to understanding and sometimes discovering the relationships between master data.
17
Mapping data: Data from two different applications can be mapped so that applications can maintain their own masterdata
EDMCS from Oracle
What’s New
✓ Application adapters – PBCS/EPBCS, Cloud GL, FCCS, Flat files✓ Open JSON, build your own application adapters✓ Requests – Request Types, interactive, subscription✓ Import and export from a viewpoint (intersection Dimension and Application)✓ Subscriptions – Automatic updates to multiple viewpoints that subscribe to changes in source viewpoint
- Either automatic or can queue up for approval- Subscriptions to viewpoints in multiple applications- If there are any issues during the sync process, they are routed to assigned users for resolution, - Email notifications
✓ Compare enhancements✓ Excel Worksheet labels✓ EPM Automate utility✓ Expression Builder✓ Application registration
18
EDM – What is it missingNo Lift and Shift - It is a redesign and a rebuild
❖ No concept of Versions, EDM has applications which typically represent real world applications
❖ EDM Is in the cloud - No access to Repository
❖ Base nodes handled separately from Hierarchy nodes
❖ No Action Scripts – All changes are request driven
❖ Not based on DRM
❖ No Blenders
❖ No Scheduler, though you can use EPM Automate or as a 3rd party scheduler
❖ No migration Utility from DRM to EDMCS – And probably not going to be
19
EDM – Looking forward
EDM What to expect in 2020
❖ Enhanced REST APIs❖ Expression Builder❖ Look up Sets
❖ Derived properties❖ Property transformations❖ Custom validations
❖ Transaction Audit History❖ Compare subsets of Hierarchies & Automated compares❖ Node history & search❖ What if branching
❖ Data Catalog

EDMCS Pilot – Recap
❖ Lower in features/maturity in comparison to other MDM products
❖ Complete redesign from existing Oracle MDM product – few pieces can be reused
❖ Spent majority of the POC time on understanding and designing the application
❖ Brand new application and design, needs time and effort to understand the application, models and architecture
❖ Integrations with On-Prem applications require major development effort
❖ Some key features yet to be released to the product❖ Derived Properties❖ Custom validations❖ Custom routing of requests & Enrichment

Next Steps & Recommendations
Considerations for EDMStart Small: EDM enables to start small as each individual application could be registered and masterdata managed at the application level – Expand to other applications via subscriptions
Not a Lift and Shift from DRM: Brand new application with a differentiated foundation. No direct conversion exits from DRM to EDM. Needs time & effort by developers and users to understand EDM
Define ROI: The key to success is to implement MDM incrementally so that the business realizes a series of short-term benefits while the complete project is a long-term process.
Sponsorship & Functional Support: No MDM project can be successful without full support and participation of stakeholders and strong sponsorship
Evaluate EDM features: Evaluate EDM features against the use cases that you have, EDM has basic foundation, more features getting added and a good roadmap, but needs evaluation before the plunge
Line up your Enhancements : Learn about EDM and plan your incremental enhancements inline with the Cloud EDM roadmap.
27
EDMCS - Considerations
Evaluation of EDM vs Use cases – Questions to consider❑ What features are must haves❑ What are the use cases❑ How complex is the masterdata
❑ Need Derived properties & Function Builder❑ Need custom Validations❑ Need custom routing of workflows, enrichment stages
❑ Form based workflows
❑ Integrations to OnPrem applications, custom applications
❑ Exports, standard hierarchy exports, generation exports, Custom Compare exports❑ Object Audit, Audit dashboards with search, Data quality dashboards
❑ Hybrid – Multi segment node types, Cross Hierarchy relationships❑ Data dictionary & Cataloging
