How Do You Know Your Facility Is TRULY Cleaned, Sanitized, Disinfected

Cleaning standards of how our school properties are to managed … with input protocols from PHO, CDC, WHO, OFIS, OptiSolve, OSSTF, MTCS, Swish Group of Companies, UNICEF, Global Biorisk Advisory Council …

CLEANING VALIDATION … Not Just Look Clean, But is ACTUALLY verified / validated

Your School Community … relay confidence the facility they’re entering will be safe

● Certification … posted validation certification● Ongoing safe practices … entrance screening & on-site monitoring● Testing … in conjunction with PHO

How do you validate that your facility is actually safe & ready for re-entry?

TidbitOver past 3 years we’ve observed these cleaning validation ATP scores:

● FLOORS … 897● COUNTERTOPS … 287● HIGH TOUCH

SURFACES … 93

Standard is 30-50… scores are continually lowering

Cause of Infectious Threats

Incorrect cleaning practices or protocols

Misuse of disinfectant, instructions as required to kill 100% pathogens

Lack of knowledge, severity – importance of cleaning tasks

Because of this new environment, we’re also mindful that

Independent School community at large includes staff that are

seniors, as well as children at

Our New School Community: Infection Prevention & Control - 4 Practices ● Proper & frequent hand hygiene - educating children on the

skills of hand hygiene and cough … start at screening for re-entry

● Proper infection prevention and control measures… will minimize transmission of infection both within & wider community

● Screening of all incoming staff, students, parents or general public. PHO suggests adopting a protocol like the LTC community of

● Testing - Coordinate with PHO & School Facility Services to complete the test and report cases to School Executive / Board.

cleaning, sanitizing & disinfecting

Cleaning removes germs, dirt, and impurities from surfaces or objects.

Disinfecting works by using chemicals to kill germs on surfaces or objects.

Sanitizing lowers the number of germs on surfaces or objects to a safe level, as judged by public health standards or requirements..

Hands spread of 80% of common infectious diseases

Proper hand hygiene continues to be universally recognized as the smartest, most cost effective means of infection control.

● After coughing or sneezing

● When caring for others ● Before, during, after you prepare food ● Before eating ● After using the washroom/toilet ● After handling animals or animal waste● When hands are dirty

SECONDLY … Define the Scope of Work (SOW) to be done on your facility EXAMPLE: Clean and Disinfect Toilet Fixtures using ENVIRO SOLUTIONS® ES51 restroom program. Fixtures include toilet bowls, urinals and basins. Areas from floor to ceiling will be thoroughly cleaned, sanitized and disinfected, free of germs and other airborne pathogens. Validate with ATP system

Tip

SOW should include a QA daily checklist for the Screening Team, Testing Team & Cleaning Staff. Included on that checklist are high touch / soil transfer areas:

Third & Fourth:Screening - staff, students, parents or general public. PHO suggests adopting a protocol like the LTC community of monitoring entrances and exits … supplying proper PPE, temperature checks, recording / reporting anomalies (without alienating students or staff).

Testing – establish initial health status for all staff and/or students prior to reentry Co-ordinate with PHO & School Facility Services to complete the test and report cases to School Executive / Board.

Execution of the Cleaning Plan … 6 Considerations1. DILUTION: Ensure your solutions are properly diluted & suitable for the surface you want to clean, or they won’t be as effective. Some products need water to work but too much or too little water renders the product ineffective, and in some cases, dangerous.

Page 15: Getting Your Reopening Right · Ensuring that appropriate measures are taken to keep the children and the staff safe to the best of our abilities. Plan & process to achieve acceptable

2 Quality Assurance Checklist.

Because the correct dilution is paramount, goal is to achieve the required PPM (parts per million) to ensure that the product will kill each of the stated pathogens indicated on the label. It is also critical to constantly check your PPM during your cleaning throughout the day. Changing your solution, refilling spray bottles and charge buckets is an assured way to achieve this.

3 Pre Cleaning.

A disinfectant will not be effective against pathogens, including COVID-19, if you do not, first clean your surfaces. Soil and dust will disrupt the disinfectant’s ability to target and kill pathogens and viruses. It is essential to remove those contaminants with a common cleaner before applying your disinfectant. Disinfectants don't remove dirt or grime, but bacteria could be under it. Cleaning doesn't kill many germs, it mostly removes them or loosens them. Disinfectant is needed to kill. BE SURE YOUR DISINFECT IS DIN CERTIFIED..

4 Over Cleaning.

Over-cleaning can cause physical damage to the surface (eg. staining, corrosion) and be harmful to people who may come in contact with it. Over-cleaning can also leave residues, which, again, is both a surface and personnel risk.

5 Dwell Time

How long a product needs to sit before you can continue the process. Those few minutes matter … because some chemicals need that time to properly find and break down the bacteria. Ignoring dwell times could result in the bacteria becoming resistant to the chemicals.

6 Cloths MatterMicrofiber is the best choice for several reasons. One, it's absorbent so it can be used longer than other cloths and with less product. Two, it's made to get into small crevices and clean more effectively. Three, it won’t leave scratches or streaks. All this is possible because the microfiber, which are microscopically thin fibers, attract dirt and are durable, making these cloths the ideal cleaning choice for most cleaning jobs.

Rinse: One of the most commonly overlooked steps in the disinfection process is the rinse for food contact surfaces or in the case of children’s toys or facilities with cafeterias. After you have pre-cleaned your surface and then allowed your disinfectant to remain for the proper dwell time, you will want to use a potable water rinse on your food contact surface.

Cross Contamination.

Incorporating proper cleaning processes and equipment into your cleaning program by:

Utilizing a colour-coding system to coordinate colours of cleaning tools, such as mops, buckets and clothes, with specific areas of a building or room

A double cavity mop bucket to eliminate the spreading of contaminated water. Single cavity buckets force the user to dip their mop into dirty water and then continue cleaning the floor.

A microfibre flat mop is designed to better pick up dirt and bacteria while releasing cleaning solution evenly. They move flatly on the floors, getting into corners, baseboards and crevices, and won’t leave streaks or scratches.

VALIDATION… .

We’ve adopting the Pathfinder imaging technology, because it actually reveals contamination on surfaces ... allowing cleaning team and your school’s environmental team to validate investments being made in cleaning activities at your facility.

But more importantly, allowing cleaning team to pinpoint where the high risk transfer points are concentrated with pathogens.

When you combine this technology with an ATP monitoring system - that detects the amount of organic matter that remains after cleaning an environmental surface ... this TRULY gives you a REAL opportunity to treat any surface with precision cleaning.

Cross Contamination Contd..

Microfibre flat mop is designed to better pick up dirt and bacteria while releasing cleaning solution evenly. They move flatly on the floors, getting into corners, baseboards and crevices, and won’t leave streaks or scratches. Cotton string mops can’t compete in any of these aspects, and these weaknesses can lead to inadequately cleaned floors.

Microfibre cloths, as they’re more effective than rags and other cloths. They’re absorbent and have a positive charge, resulting in a better job picking up and holding onto dust, dirt,
