WSo, chocolate manufacturing companies go into overdrive making the most delectable chocolates in various shapes and sizes. You have heart sized chocolates in a variety of flavors that makes it so difficult for you to choose just one. Grocery stores, departmental stores and convenience stores sell many different kinds of domestic and imported chocolates.

So why choose just one, go ahead and grab yourself a handful of boxes. These chocolates fly off the shelves so fast in Japan every year that now, men are supposed to return gifts to women on a day called White Day –a Japanese creation. On White Day men can buy women chocolates, candies and cookies.

Now these chocolates are of two types-‘Giri choko’ (obligation chocolate) or ‘Honmei choko’ (true love chocolate).Giri-choko is the chocolate that women would give to men who they had no romantic interest in. These men could be bosses, colleagues or just male friends who women had no romantic interest in.

‘Giri’ is a very Japanese concept. Someone does something nice for you and you in return feel obligated in to pay back the favor. We have to keep in mind that out here sending Valentine’s Day cards is not the norm. Plus, the phrase ‘Happy Valentine’s Day’ itself is not widely used.

However, some women are just not patient enough to wait for White Day to get back a chocolate in return. So new traditions have been invented! What are some of the new traditions?

Well, now we have ‘gyaku choco’ which means reverse chocolate given by men to women and then we have ‘tomo choco’ which is friendship chocolate that girls give their friends on Valentine’s Day. Besides, chocolates a married or engaged woman in Japan can also choose to give other gifts. So what about that

brand new bottle of cologne or a branded watch to her partner.

Don’t forget that presentation equally matters when presenting a gift so preferably choose chocolates in red wrappers, make sure that your gift is wrapped up well and then find the perfect moment to gift it to your loved one.
