Dear Colleagues :

We had already four years, since the 9th International Symposium on Ginseng was

successfully held in Seoul, Korea. Again, it is my great pleasure and honor, as the

president of the Korean Society of Ginseng, to host the 10th International Symposium on

Ginseng in Seoul, Korea, from September 13 to 16, 2010. The 10th International

Symposium on Ginseng will be sponsored by the Ministry for Food, Agriculture, Forestry

and Fisheries, Korea and Korea Ginseng Corporation. This symposium will continue the

tradition of the previous symposia in our series by bringing together world-wide famous

scientists with interests in all aspects of ginseng in chemistry, clinical studies,

pharmacology, physiology, cultivation, ginseng products and others. As in the past, we

hope to put touch upon the most recent developments in this fascinating area of ginseng

research. Please join us. You will meet old friends and make new friends and help to

promote a spirit of international colleagueship with your new acquaintances in a wonderful

Asian setting. We are looking forward to seeing you soon in Seoul.

SCIENTIFIC PROGRAMThe Symposium will include Plenary Lectures, Invited Lectures, Oral and Poster

Presentations on:

ORALSThe oral session will be held, which is based on submitted abstracts, and participation willbe limited to 50~60 foreign and domestic speakers. Oral presentation will be 20 minutes(plenary lecture, 40 min; invited lectures, 30 min) including questions and answers. For oralpresentation, beam projector (Microsoft power point) will be prepared. Speakers are askedto give their slides with power point to the projectionists in the room no later than 60minutes before the beginning of each corresponding session. For the invited plenary lec-turers and speakers from abroad, who have submitted full text with figures and tables untilJune 30, 2010, will be fully supported including a round airplane ticket (economic class)and staying expenses (accomodations and meals) during the Symposium.

POSTERSPresentation Date and Time: From 13:00, September 14 to 17:00, September 15,

2010. Each poster will have billboard dimension of 90 cm×110 cm (width×length)and should be presented on the assigned area. The Organizing Committee willprovide staying expenses (accommodations and meals) during the Symposium andU$100 per each poster for the selected poster presenters from abroad, who will beinformed by May 10, 2010.

SUBMISSION OF PAPERSAll participants who wish to submit paper(s) or poster(s) are requested to complete

the Abstract Form in the 2nd circular as an example of “Call For Papers” by Feb. 26,2010 for plenary lectures, invited lectures and oral presentations and by April 10,2010 for poster presentations, respectively. Meanwhile, abstracts by facsimile are notacceptable. If you submit abstract, we will acknowledge it within a week. Allabstracts will be published in a supplement of the Journal of our society.

Plenary lecturers, invited lecturers and oral speakers will be informed by March 31,2010 and asked to submit a full text file (MS Word, 1.5 line or 150%, A4, Times 11point font) by June 30, 2010 for the publication of the symposium proceed-ings. Please send it to the general secretary, Dr. Kwang-Tae Choi by e-mail([email protected]).

These full texts will be published in Journal of Ginseng Research later.

EXHIBITIONSExhibitions of ginseng and ginseng products will be on display in Olympic Parktel

during the symposium period. Those who wish to join the exhibitions are requested tocontact the general secretary, Dr. Kwang-Tae Choi.

GINSENG TOURThe tour is scheduled for September 17, 2010. Buyeo is famous for cultivation of

ginseng and ginseng manufacturing plant.

To register for the symposium, please complete a Registration and Hotel ReservationForm (or a photocopy) and mail it with your remittance to the secretariat. In case of on-site registration, submit the attached Registration and Hotel Reservation Form. All thoseshould be arrived by no later than July 10, 2010. After the confirmation of theregistration, you will receive final symposium schedule and confirmation letter from theGeneral Secretary which can be used at the registration desk.

CANCELLATION AND REFUNDCancellation must be notified in writing to the secretariat. 30% of registration fee

will be deducted as handling fee for all registrations cancelled before July 31, 2010.After this date, the registration fee is not refundable for any reason.

ACCOMMODATIONA sufficient number of Twin or Double rooms has been reserved at Seoul Olympic

Parktel with the Symposium rates (approximately U$100 compared to normal rate

U$155 including V.A.T). Reservation should be made by completing and submitting

the Registration Form in the 2nd circular or send e-mail on Hotel reservation to

general secretary, Dr. Kwang-Tae Choi ([email protected]). The reservation

will be made on a first-come, first-served basis. Deadline for Hotel reservation is July

TRANSPORTATIONThe invited plenary lecturers, oral speakers, poster presenters and other participants

from abroad will first arrive at Incheon International Airport, Korea. We recommend

you to change money at money exchanges in the Airport. And then please go out

through either Gate 5 or Gate 11, where you may find Bus-stop 5A or 11B,

respectively. Near the Bus-stops, you are able to purchase one way ticket for Seoul

Olympic Parktel (Limousine Bus Number 6006) at ticket offices with Korean cash or

credit cards, which will cost 9,000 Won (approximately U$8). The buses are available

from 05:30 a.m. to 23:00 p.m. with a 15 minute interval at the Airport. Please get off

at the 6th bus-stop (Seoul Olympic Parktel front gate) from the Airport, which takes

about ninety minutes to the Hotel. In case of taxi, it costs approximately U$70 or

more depending upon traffic conditions.

CLIMATEKorea has four distinctive seasons. The weather during the symposium period will

be autumn and quite beautiful. The average temperature in Seoul area during thesymposium period is about 15-20℃ . It is recommended that you bring a sweater orjacket for night if you need.

INSURANCENo responsibility can be assured for any kinds of personal accidents, sickness,

theft, or property damage suffered by symposium participants. Participants areadvised to arrange whatever insurance they consider necessary.

CURRENCY AND CREDIT CARDSThe unit of Korea currency is Won (indicate as ￦ ). Foreign bank notes and

traveler's checks can be converted into Korean Won at foreign exchange banks andother commercial banks. The exchange rate is subject to market fluctuation. One USdollar is equivalent to approximately 1,200 Won. Credit cards including VISA,Master, AMEX, and Diners Club are accepted at all major hotels, department storesand restaurants catering to international clientele.

ELECTRICITYIn most Hotels, the electricity is 220 volt.

EMERGENCYDial 112 for the police and 119 for the fire department for emergency case. The

hotel front desk or hotel manager can arrange for a doctor or an ambulance in case.
