BDCHS receives over-
whelming community sup-
port
Brooks DeBartolo Colle-
giate High School has made
continued efforts to increase
its visibility in Tampa Bay
and be an integral part of the
community.
Recently, several teachers
have been fortunate enough
tain focus. With consistent study-
ing, work completion, test per-
formance, and positive attitude,
students will finish strong. We
encourage students to take advan-
tage of their resources and to ask
questions if they need assistance
for anything they may need. We
are quickly approaching the time
for assessments: FCAT, EOCs,
AP Exams. Please pay close at-
tention to the assessment sched-
ule to ensure your child is well-
rested and encouraged to show
what they know.
We are proud of the learning that
occurs outside of the classroom
in the labs and on the field or
court. We wish our Science and
Technology ROV (remotely op-
erated vehicle) team well as they
prepare for the annual MATE
competition. It is truly amazing
to watch students problem solve,
collaborate, and apply the skills
they have learned to create these
ROVs. In addition to academic
competitions, our athletic pro-
gram is growing and developing.

to see this pay dividends by
means of classroom dona-
tions.
Using the highly beneficial
online charity organization,
Donors Choose, BDCHS
teachers have acquired and
are asking for all kinds of
instructional materials such
as iPads, ROVs, new and
classic novels, and an in-
structional mirror for art
class. An Apple TV was
also funded!
These projects are another
example of BDCHS finding
creative ways to improve
classroom instruction each
and every day for the benefit
of its students.

Brooks DeBartolo Colle-
giate High School believes
strongly in the importance
of promoting the growth of
civic responsibility among
the Phoenix student body.
Because Brooks DeBartolo
holds civic participation and
community service in such
a high regard, we are a Cer-
tifying Organization with
the President’s Volunteer
Service Award (PVSA).
The PVSA is a program that
recognizes United States
citizens and permanent resi-
dents who have accumu-
lated a specific number of
community service hours.
BDCHS is proud to honor
Phoenix students that dem-
onstrate exemplary service
to their community through
this program.
A Note from the Presi-
dent’s Volunteer Service
Award Program:
“Recognizing and honoring
volunteers sets a standard
for service, encourages a
sustained commitment to
civic participation and in-
spires other to make service
a central part of their lives.
The President’s Volunteer
Service Award recognizes
United States citizens and
lawfully admitted perma-
nent residents of the United
States who have achieved
the required number of
hours of service over a 12-
month time period – or cu-
mulative hours over the
course of a life-
time” (President’s Volun-
teer Service Award, 2014).
Phoenix students are en-
couraged to register with
the program to track their
service hours and work to-
ward meeting one of the
eligibility areas noted on
the program’s website:
Bronze, Silver, or Gold
Level, or the prestigious
President’s Call to Service
Award. Please click here to
register with the program,
or to learn more about the
President’s Volunteer Ser-
vice Award.
Note:
Students that register for the
program must have all ser-
vice hours entered in the
system by 5:00 PM on
April 16, 2014 for recogni-
tion of service prior to the
close of the 2013-2014 aca-
demic year. Students will
also need the BDCHS Re-
cord of Service Key to con-
nect them with Brooks De-
Bartolo Collegiate High
School as the Certifying
Organization: PCV-57860
We hope that your students
will participate in this
unique program. If you

I would like to thank each
member of the Brooks DeBar-

support the school and our stu-
dents. No contribution is too
big or small. From organizing
our lost and found to serving as
a coordinator for a school
event, anything you can do to
help the school is greatly appre-
ciated. If you are able to attend,
we encourage you to join us for
the Champions’ Breakfast on
April 25th featuring NFL Com-

are thrilled that Commissioner
Goodell has taken the time to

Phoenix Sports Corner Coach Gale brings great
enthusiasm to new and fast
improving tennis program
“It seemed like yesterday
when the inaugural year of
tennis kicked off and the
student athletes were fright-
ened, apprehensive, trepida-
tious, and stomachs unset-
tled,” Coach Gale said.
“Now, 1 month later and the
progress is like night and
day.”
This was Coach Gales’s
analysis just a few weeks
ago as he described
BDCHS’ pioneer tennis
players. Since then, many
players have won their first
matches and are wrapping
up the season this week in
District Tournament play.
“G” Week Gatorade paid BDCHS a visit on Wednesday afternoon. Over 70 BDCHS student- ath-
letes attended this free event that educated them about the importance of proper nutri-
tion and hydration.
