POST SHOW REPORT

The 10th edition of the Gem & Jewellery India International Exhibition (GJIIE’14)

was the biggest jewellery fair of its kind in South India and offered the best in Indian and

International jewellery, machinery, and allied products under one roof. The opening was

grand – with traditional celebrations and a lamp lighting ceremony. GJIIE’14 was

inaugurated by Sunny Chittilappilly, the Chairman of Dubai Gold & Jewellery Group and B.S.

Keshava Murthy, Chief General Manager, Indian Overseas Bank, Chennai.

This mega trade fair was held from 8th to 10th February, 2014 at the Chennai Trade Centre. It was

jointly organised by the Madras Jewellers and Diamond Merchants Association and UBM India. The

highlight of GJIIE’14 was the three days of business that was greatly appreciated and well received by

both the exhibitors and visitors.

Over the last 10 years, GJIIE has grown in terms of exhibitors and footfalls. This has not only made it the

number one trade fair in South India, but also the best platform to serve as a gateway to the South Indian

jewellery market. The exhibition, witnessed a 20% increase in visitor participation (from over 200 cities)

as compared to last year. Potential buyers and well known jewellers from Delhi, Jaipur, Kolkata, Rajkot,

Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Tumkur, Chennai, Coimbatore, Vijayawada and Trissur attended the event.

Some of the exhibitors of GJIIE’14 included KRIZZ (Chennai) Chain and Chains (Mumbai), Derewala

Jewellery (Jaipur), MuktiGold (Mumbai), RKR Gold (Coimbatore), White Fire

(Chennai), Jewel Park (Nellore), Sanghi Jewellers (Hyderabad), Prakash Gold Palace (Chennai), Laxmi

Jewellery (Chennai).

The 11th edition of Gems & Jewellery India International Exhibition is scheduled from 20th – 22nd

March, 2014 at the Chennai Trade Centre, Chennai.

With close to 10,000 trade visitors, over 225 participants already booking their stalls, and

with organizers adding more features to the show, the upcoming edition of GJIIE promises

to keep getting bigger and better!

The world renowned Indian bridal gold jewellery are painstakingly created by small time artisans in adverse working conditions. With no proper set up and

sanitation facilities, these artisans are often made to work in adverse

conditions with no proper working environment. They are also not provided

any post retirement benefits. Paid meagre salaries, these artisans often work on strict

deadlines and far away from their homeland.
