March is a busy month! We celebrate Women’s history; daylight sav-

ings time begins on the 8th and Spring arrives on the 19th! St. Pat-

rick’s Day and March Madness will keep us busy mid-month.

We live in a lovely community with mature trees and shrubs, and

over 11.5 miles of sidewalk and that is not counting the Chester Val-

ley Trail. So, as winter fades and we enjoy more daylight, please be

mindful of your neighbors who may be out enjoying the fresh air.

The office continues to get calls about residents driving too fast and

not observing the stop signs. Let’s work to keep our community safe

and enjoyable for everyone.

Happy Spring!

TOWNWATCH By Mike Feagley

On the crime scene The term SCAM is a word we hear about almost every day. Since we are in the middle of a tax season, I would like to pass on some information that could help us deal with this plague. Local and state authorities are warning residents to be aware of some of the tactics used by would be scammers to gain access to your personal information, or trick you into paying a false debt. FINAL DEMAND FOR PAYMENT This classic scam uses pressure tactics and fear to motivate the recipient into immediate action. The letters look authentic with taxpayer information on the notices, it is all fake! PROPERTY TAX OR RENT REBATE PROGRAM This scam targets residents who receive rebates through the state’s Property Tax and Rent Pro-gram to get bank information. The calls come from the 717 Area Code (Harrisburg), with scam-mers pretending to be Dept. of Revenue employees. THE IRS IMPERSONATION SCAM The callers often mention further penalties, or arrest if payments are not immediately made. This scam often demands payment in the form of a gift cards. The IRS never ask for gift card pay-ments! THE IRS SCAM: FAKE MAILINGS This scam involves letters being sent to residents, usually senior citizens. The letters ask for pay-ment to the IRS. This is the first hint it a scam, payments are made to the United States Treasury, NOT TO THE IRS! NON-TAX SPECIFIC SCAMS These scams ask for extensive personal information. (A police chief in our area was targeted) This often involves Social Security info and Social Security numbers. The Social Security Administra-tion never calls, and they never make threats over the phone. .

March 2020

Cars and Rules You may have seen some orange notices on cars. We have been checking to see whether cars have current state inspection stickers and are regis-tered at Old Forge Crossing. The notices are for vehicles that need one or the other or both. All vehicles at Old Forge Crossing should have current state inspection. In addition, all vehicle must be registered with the Association and have an Old Forge Crossing sticker visible on the car. We will put a notice on the car to let you know. Call the office if you need a vehicle registration form or find one on the Old Forge Crossing website. Review Section VII of the Rules re-garding Vehicles, Parking, Boats and Trailers.

Safety Inspections A Old Forge Crossing does safety inspections every two years. We be-gan doing them in early February and will continue into March. The schedule was delivered at the beginning of February. The letter, schedule and checklist are available on the Old Forge Crossing website if you need another copy (oldforgexingpa.com). We will be checking smoke de-tectors, washer hoses, the condition of the plumbing pipes and anything else that might be considered a fire or safety hazard. If you are not avail-able on the date your building is scheduled, we will use the key in the of-fice. If we cannot get in we will reschedule for later in March. Reminder: you may be fined $250 if we cannot gain access.

Board Elections The Annual Meeting is scheduled on April 14. There are three Executive Board positions whose terms are expiring. Submit your Candidate Data Sheet if you are interested in running for the Board. Forms are available on the Old Forge website or in the office.

Tree Inventory John Hosbach of Rockwell Associates has been doing an inventory of the trees at Old Forge. The small silver tags on the trees are part of the invento-ry. John Hosbach will be presenting a survey of the trees with his plan for care and maintenance. John plans to attend the Annual Meeting to review his findings with the community.
