Sydney North Area Athletics Results On Monday students from Glenorie Public School attended the Sydney North Athletics Carnival. Blake Cowley, Lachlan Powell, Harry Devaney and Ben Stringer ran in the Senior Boys Relay. They made the final and came 9th overall. There are 166 schools that belong in the Sydney North Area so it was an amazing achievement for such a small school. Lachlan ran in 100m, 200m and 800m 12/13 year boys events and came 1st in 800m, 6th in 100m and 11th in 200m . Lachlan has now qualified for NSW State Athletic Championships to be held on 18th October. Congratulations boys on a fantastic achievement. Good luck Lachie.
Become involved in your child’s education. Enjoy learning!

Stage 3 Workshop Cyberbullying and Blackmail
Last week, all Stage 3 students attended a virtual classroom session about cyberbullying and blackmail.
This was endorsed by the Office of the eSafety Commissioner and was both an informative and engaging
session for our children to participate in, as part of National Child Protection Week. Students were
encouraged to examine the values that are accepted and enacted within our community as well as
partaking in both online and local discussions about rights and responsibilities when interacting face–to–
face or through social media.
The following information is an excerpt from a Cyberbullying Factsheet from the Office of the eSafety
Commissioner.
What does cyberbullying look like?
Cyberbullying can take many forms, including:
posting nasty comments
using intimate images to humiliate someone
threatening violence
misusing someone else’s social media account
creating fake accounts to harass and intimidate others
sharing upsetting images and videos
making unwanted and persistent contact with someone online.
If you are being cyberbullied:
talk to someone you trust straight away—like a parent, sibling, uncle/aunt, teacher or friend
don’t retaliate or respond — it could inflame the situation
block the bully and change your privacy settings
report the abuse to the service on which it appears and ask others to as well
collect evidence—keep mobile phone messages, take screenshots and print emails or
social networking conversations: these can be used if you need to make a report
If the social media service has not taken action after 48 hours following your report, you can
report to esafety.gov.au/reportcyberbullying.
For more information about cyberbullying, including resources and advice for parents and young
people, visit esafety.gov.au.
A TOTAL FIRE BAN was declared last Saturday. With the
drought conditions continuing across much of Sydney Basin
and NSW we should expect many more this fire season.
A total fire ban means no fires out in the open. A total fire ban helps limit the potential of fires developing.
During a Total Fire Ban you cannot light, maintain or use a fire in the open, or to carry out any
activity in the open that causes, or is likely to cause, a fire.
No general purpose hot works, such as welding or gas cutting can be done in the open.
The NSW RFS strongly recommends you reconsider activities such as such using a tractor or
slashing, to help reduce the chance of a fire starting on your property. Under certain conditions, the
NSW RFS may issue a Harvest Safety Alert. Some commonly asked questions:
Can I use an electric barbeque?
You can use an electric barbeque for cooking as long as it is under the direct control of a
responsible adult, who is present at all times while it is operating, and no combustible material is
allowed within two metres at any time it is operating.
Can I use a gas barbeque?
You can use a gas barbeque under the following conditions:
It is under the direct control of a responsible adult, who is present at all times while it is operating;
No combustible material is allowed within two metres at any time it is operating;
You have an immediate and continuous supply of water; and
The barbeque is within 20 metres of a permanent private dwelling such as a home; or
The barbeque is within a designated picnic area and the appliance is approved by Council,
National Parks or State Forest.
Can I use a barbeque or pizza oven which burns solid fuel (e.g. wood, charcoal or heat beads)?
No. A barbeque or wood fire pizza oven which uses solid fuel, such as wood, charcoal or heat
beads, cannot be used outside during a Total Fire Ban.
Can I use fire during a Total Fire Ban if I have a fire permit?
Permits are suspended on days of total fire ban. Permits may resume after the total fire ban is
lifted, as long as the permit hasn't expired.
