CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL NEEDSCHILDREN WITH SPECIAL NEEDSCHILDREN WITH SPECIAL NEEDSCHILDREN WITH SPECIAL NEEDS A number of children participate in special needs groups aimed at improving their learning in specific areas, such as, Reading, Mathematics or Written Language. These programmes are prepared by teachers and supported by teacher aides. The programmes are designed specifically to meet the learning needs of identified children . The children either work individually or in a small groups. These groups operate on a regular basis usually in the classroom setting. Parents will be informed through our reporting procedures as appropriate.

READING RECOVERYREADING RECOVERYREADING RECOVERYREADING RECOVERY Reading Recovery is an early intervention programme for 6 year olds who are having difficulty with their reading. We have a tutor who cater s for up to four children, the children are in the programme for approximately 20 weeks and attend daily for 30 minutes. Parents will be notified when their children have been selected for the programme. Parents are encouraged to attend at least one Reading Recovery lesson to see how the programme operates and to see how they can assist at home.

LITERACY INTERVENTIONLITERACY INTERVENTIONLITERACY INTERVENTIONLITERACY INTERVENTION The literacy intervention programme is designed to support the progress of children in years 2 to 6, who are working below their expected achievement level in reading or written language. Individuals or groups of children will be withdrawn from their classrooms to work in the unit for set periods of time. Parents will be informed if their children have been selected for the programme and resulting progress.
