Global Sustainability

I have initiated the WyndhamGreen program because it fits Wyndham’s worldwide strategic commitment to corporate social responsibility and the environment. It is not just a program but a way of living and working based on our vision and values, enhancing our customers’ lives by improving the environment, supporting our global and local communities and developing sustainable programs that deliver economic benefits.

Most importantly, we understand that our business activities do impact the earth and people’s lives. We are committed to conserving our natural resources, preserving our habitats and preventing pollution. With more than 7,000 locations in 100 countries, we at Wyndham Worldwide can leverage our size and do simple things well to make a huge environmental impact.

Our approach is pragmatic. We are adopting best practices around the world with our owners, franchisees, employees and guests. This Global Best Practices document highlights the good work that has been implemented. We are building an eco-learning culture that strives to continuously improve and sustain our positive results over time. Under our Wyndham Green initiative, our main areas of focus include:

• Reducing energy and tracking our consumption • Reducing water usage • Improving air quality • Minimizing our waste • Working with our communities • Educating our associates and driving innovation

The foundation of our program is education, which grounds us in the current environmental realities and inspires us to initiate appropriate action every day. This journey is taking time, and we are making positive progress. I am proud to say that we will continue to build our sustainable practices, and to be a role model for our customers and guests.

Energy ConservationConsumption realigned— with sustainability in mind.

Wyndham Worldwide corporate offices around the globe are working together to reduce energy consumption. Through increased awareness, innovation and teamwork they are

establishing initiatives targeting new, energy-saving alternatives.

Target: Reduce energy in the offices at 7 Sylvan, Parsippany.

Action: Purchase energy efficient machines such as multi-functional devices.

Result: 7 Sylvan has seen a 22.7% reduction in energy since implementing these measures. 629 personal printers and faxes have been removed from the Parsippany campus this year.

Target: Wyndham Exchange & Rentals Holiday Cottages saw an unnecessary use of their heat and air conditioning systems, and realized an opportunity to cut energy costs.

Action: The timers on the heat and air conditioning systems were changed to reduce the amount of time they were run daily. They were set to start one hour later and turn off one hour earlier, allowing for the climate to still be comfortable but more efficient.

Result: By reducing the running time by 14 hours per week, the kilowatt usage was reduced 9%, from 98,433 to 90,928 kWh.

Wind power is the fastest-growing energy source in the world.

Target: The Super 8 of Monroe, Wisconsin, received the Wisconsin Travel Green Certification and is a leading hotel property that uses innovative solutions and techniques.

Action: To reduce monthly water heating costs, 600 square feet of solar panels were installed on the property. Energy efficient lighting was installed throughout the building, along with motion-detection sensors in guest rooms. The use of heat pumps in Package Terminal Air Conditioning (PTHP) units lowered energy costs further. Low energy efficient windows and energy recovery ventilators also helped to make the Super 8 an outstanding property.

Result: The solar panels reduce heating costs up to 40%. Motion sensors reduced energy usage by 10%, and PTHP units reduced the energy bill by another approximately 20%.

Target: Energy conservation is an important step to take when working towards sustainability. A simple method of conservation is to use less energy for lighting.

Action: Wyndham Worldwide Corporate offices use energy efficient lighting throughout the building.

Result: The corporate office in Parsippany consumes 15% less lighting power density than a conventional office building the same size.

Energy ConservationConsumption realigned—with sustainability in mind.

Wyndham corporate offices around the globe are working together to reduce energy consumption. Through increased awareness, innovation and teamwork they are establishing

initiatives targeting reduced energy consumption and new, energy-saving alternatives.

Target: At the Days Inn Hotel Grand Rapids, Michigan, the many sustainable initiatives that they have implemented in their hotel policy are helping the property to become energy efficient, and the hotel has received the Green Lodging Certificate from Michigan.

Action: All new guest room lamping is eco-friendly, using Energywise sockets and fluorescent bulbs. In-room refrigerators are programmed for energy conservation, and an Ozone Laundry System was installed.

Result: To date, 778 incandescent bulbs have been converted to fluorescent, and over the 10,000 hour life of the bulb it is estimated to reduce electricity by 4,857,932 kilowatt hours (kWh) and CO2 by over 6 million lbs (2,721,554 kg).

Replacing one incandescent bulb with an energy efficient bulb means 1,000 lbs (454 kg) less of CO2 is emitted over the bulb’s lifetime.

Target: To remain a leader in sustainability, Wyndham Worldwide is constantly looking for new and innovative ways to reduce operational costs and conserve energy.

Action: Wyndham Worldwide is purchasing 100% of its electrical energy from wind power for the corporate office at 22 Sylvan, Parsippany.

Result: By purchasing renewable energy, Wyndham Worldwide continues to reduce its carbon footprint. This energy not only conserves resources, but does not release harmful emissions. Wyndham Worldwide received the ConEdison Pioneer Award for this achievement.

Target: A Green Fleet Review was done on the Company Car Fleet program at Wyndham Exchange & Rentals Holiday Cottages by the Energy Saving Trust to see what, if any, environmentally friendly changes could be made.

Action: A car list was implemented that does not allow any driver to chose a lease car that is above 165g CO2, and 17 out of the 24 vehicles on the list have lower than 120g CO2 emissions. Holiday Cottages switched car lease providers in April 2009. Since its introduction, 2 out of 5 drivers have chosen high efficiency blue motion, or fuel efficient, engines.

Result: Previously, the cars of all the drivers in the fleet cumulatively emitted 680g of CO2. The new cars reduce the fleet’s emissions to 650g of CO2. There are 16 more vehicle changes within the next year, and a continuing downward trend in emissions is expected.

Target: Wyndham Exchange & Rentals Novasol began to notice that their employees would unintentionally leave their lights and computer on during the day or overnight. Novasol decided to develop a program to encourage their employees to conserve energy where they could.

Action: Novasol implemented the “Turn It Off” program, which rewards those that turn off their equipment with a Thank You note and a caramel candy. In addition to the program, clocks were added to central printers to turn them off during the night, and a virtual server was purchased, eliminating the need for multiple servers.

Result: The Turn It Off program was useful in educating and training the staff about the importance of conserving energy. Through the program 12 old virtual servers have been moved into one, saving approximately 195 kWh.

Target: After being influenced by the positive changes experienced during Earth Hour 2009, Wyndham Exchange & Rentals Pacific looked for ways to implement their actions all year long.

Action: The internal perimeter lighting around the offices that was previously on 24/7 has been permanently switched off as of March 28, 2009. Screen savers have been changed to remind people to turn their computers off or on standby when not in use, and stickers have been put on all light switches to prompt people to turn off the lights when they can.

Result: The power savings since March 2009 are approximately 15%.

Target: Wyndham Exchange & Rentals India noted the excessive amount of energy consumed by the use of their air conditioners, and so looked for a way to reduce the energy usage.

Action: The air conditioning units were turned off one hour earlier than usual, improving energy usage yet maintaining comfort.

Result: Due to their cut backs in the air conditioning running times, 6,808 kWh were saved in Q1 and 9,259 lbs of CO2.

Page 10: GLOBAL BEST PRACTICES - Wyndham Worldwide

9

Target: Reduce energy usage at the Wyndham Hotel Group Phoenix Data Center.

Action: Installed virtualized servers to reduce energy costs. In addition to the ecological benefits, the new system provides increased security and supports many users in various locations.

Result: 20 systems have been virtualized in the last six months, saving approximately 9 KWh in electricity and 2.7 tons in cooling. To date, 95 systems have been virtualized with an estimated overall savings of 42.8 kWh in electricity and 12.8 tons in cooling.

Target: Wyndham Exchange & Rentals Pacific looked to launch a program that would help to motivate workers to reduce their energy usage.

Action: “Go Green” was launched in July 2008. Energy tracking was implemented in the offices.

Result: The savings in electricity use since launching Go Green, from July 2008 to March 2009 is 9%, from 26,234 kWh used in July 2008 to 22,947 kWh used in March 2009, with an monthly average of 25,382 kWh.

Target: Wyndham Exchange & Rentals North America, seeking a way to reduce energy usage, looked to promote energy savings within their facilities in New Jersey and Indiana.

Action: Light fixtures and/or bulbs were replaced with energy efficient alternatives, and energy saving motion sensors, bathroom fixtures, and HVAC were installed. These were simple solutions with long lasting impacts to reduce CO2 emissions and energy costs.

Result: Indiana offices experienced a 5% energy savings, while the New Jersey offices had an estimated annual savings of 1.3 million kWh.

Fossil fuels (oil, coal, natural gas) are depleted at a rate that is 100,000 times faster than they are formed.

Target: Wyndham Vacation Ownership Asia Pacific Sydney is committed to reducing its environmental impact by reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Action: By working with the Australia GreenPower program, Wyndham Vacation Resorts Sydney is purchasing power from renewable energy sources such as wind, solar, mini-hydro and biomass power.

Result: 25% of Wyndham Vacation Resorts Sydney’s power comes from green energy sources.

Water ConservationWe’re on the go—to conserve the flow.

Each of the three branches of Wyndham Worldwide is addressing ways to reduce water use throughout its brands and office buildings, by using products and implementing services

that promote cleaner water as well as more conservative and efficient consumption.

Target: Reduce water use in corporate buildings.

Action: Water usage reduced through installation of low flow toilets, urinals, and sinks.

Result: The corporate offices in Parsippany consume 20% less water than a conventional office building.

Target: Wyndham Vacation Ownership saw a need to reduce harmful amounts of phosphates being added to fresh water and looked for a solution to implement in their properties.

Action: Low/no phosphate laundry and dish detergent are used at WVO properties in guest rooms. This green product allows the guest to continue receiving the service and amenities they have become accustomed to, while reducing their impact on the environment.

Result: Since the green products have been introduced, there has been an estimated reduction of 90,000 pounds of pollutants.

Over 80% of marine pollution comes from land-based activities.

Target: The Wyndham Hotel Group has begun to implement the EarthSmart linen re-use program to save resources and operational costs.

Action: Super 8, Howard Johnson, Travelodge, Days Inn, and Ramada all participate in the EarthSmart Program.

Result: The EarthSmart Program is focused on a linen re-use program, where guests can decide when they want their towels and sheets washed. This saves water and energy because the laundry that must be done daily is greatly reduced. The linen and towel reuse program at the Ramada Santa Barbara, California estimates that it can save up to 7,500 gallons of water and 50 gallons of detergent monthly.

Recycling/Re-useUsing resources with greater care, for greener earth and cleaner air.Offices worldwide are adapting green practices to reduce the amount of glass, paper

and plastic waste they generate, from substituting printed correspondence with email, to the addition of single-stream recycling bins, to using FSC-certified recycled paper.

Target: Trees are invaluable sources of oxygen and help to reduce CO2. With this in mind, Wyndham Worldwide set out to increase recycling measures in the corporate offices in an effort to save trees.

Action: Paper shredders were placed in central locations in the corporate buildings. These shredders allowed employees to recycle papers and files containing confidential information that otherwise would have been thrown away. The availability of the shredders provided a way to safely recycle any document.

Result: Through the commitment of Wyndham Worldwide employees to environmental conservation, 1,003 trees have been saved as a result of this program.

Target: Recognizing the need to reduce paper usage wherever possible, Wyndham Hotels and Resorts sought to reform processes in its finance department.

Action: Online billing and payment solutions were introduced, allowing the finance department to send out bills electronically.

Result: A total of 187 trees have been saved per month, and to date 935 trees have been saved. This is equal to reducing emissions produced from driving 19,636 miles, or 4,338 pounds of carbon.

The “Great Garbage Patch” in the Pacific Ocean is roughly twice the size of Texas and contains approximately 3.5 million tons of trash.

Target: Wyndham Exchange & Rentals reaches out to millions of consumers every day. In an effort to become more sustainable, Wyndham Exchange & Rentals looked for a way to reach out to their customers in a different way.

Action: Direct mail to 3.9 million consumers was changed to email, allowing Wyndham Exchange & Rentals to reach their consumers instantly and save trees. Members also received e-notifications, rather than printed notes through the mail.

Result: Over 5 million pieces of virgin paper were saved. 776 trees were saved as a result of using e-notifications.

Page 15: GLOBAL BEST PRACTICES - Wyndham Worldwide

14

Recycling/Re-useUsing resources with greater care, for greener earth and cleaner air.Offices worldwide are adapting green practices to reduce the amount of glass, paper

and plastic waste they generate, from substituting printed correspondence with e-mail, to the addition of single-stream recycling bins, to using FSC-certified recycled paper.

Target: While paper usage reduction can be difficult to implement quickly in an office, WVO looked for a way to lessen their impact on the environment through their paper use.

Action: WVO has transitioned to recycled paper products rather than ordering virgin paper, helping to save trees and water used to produce paper.

Result: An estimated 3,900 trees are saved annually as a result of switching to recycled paper products.

8 out of 10 bottles end up in landfills and will not begin to biodegrade for at least 700 years.

Target: Wyndham Exchange & Rentals India recognized an unnecessary amount of paper and paper product usage, and looked for ways to reduce, reuse, or recycle it.

Action: The team used two sided printing and email whenever possible, reducing the amount of paper used for inter-office communication. The waste of tissues, rolls, and paper cups in the cafeteria and facilities was tracked and reduced as well. An “Own Your Mug” contest was rolled out to encourage the use of a mug rather than paper cups. Toilet paper rolls were sourced with lesser perforation, and both toilet paper rolls and paper napkins all have messages reading “Use me but don’t waste me” and “Use only as much as you need.”

Result: Through double sided printing and email, 45,000 sheets of paper were saved in Q1. By measuring and tracking the consumption of paper products in the office facilities, 600 packs of tissues were saved in Q1, and consumption of paper cups, which once stood at 12,000 cups per month, is now around 100 cups per month.

Target: Reduce Wyndham Exchange & Rentals’s impact on the rainforest.

Action: All North American publications are printed on Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified paper, which uses trees harvested from FSC farms and not the rainforest.

Result: 100% of Wyndham Exchange & Rentals’S North American publications are printed on FSC paper, which saved 274,911 trees in 2009.

Target: Seeing the waste created by on-site caterers, Wyndham Exchange & Rentals Europe looked to find a way to reduce waste and increase recycling.

Action: Plastic recycling for on-site caterers was introduced, allowing them to reduce how much plastic was thrown out. The amount of plastic packaging onsite is also minimal, due to another new initiative to work with caterers to deliver food packed in reusable plastic crates.

Result: Approximately 8 kg of bottles and packaging are recycled each day. In addition, almost all items are now being delivered in reusable plastic crates except for those that must be packaged individually due to hygiene reasons.

Target: Wyndham Exchange & Rentals Novasol wanted to reduce paper waste generated through customer services.

Action: Checks are no longer issued as a form of deposit repayment. Novasol also implemented an “E-doc,” or electronic travel document, initiative, so that guests can access their documents online.

Result: The E-doc initiative has been used by 40,000 customers this year, and is expected to reach more than 150,000 bookings for 2010, which will save Novasol not online printing costs but postage as well. Novasol also reduced printing and posting of checks by 20,000 to 30,000 checks per year.

Target: Reduce waste of paper products such as facial and toilet tissue and paper towels in Wyndham Vacation Ownership resorts.

Action: Use facial tissue, toilet tissue, and paper towels made of 10%, 20%, or 40% recyclable postconsumer content.

Result: Through the use of green paper products at WVO properties, over 314 tons of fiber has been recycled and 1,637 trees have been saved.

Recycling one aluminum can saves enough energy to run a TV for three hours.

Page 17: GLOBAL BEST PRACTICES - Wyndham Worldwide

Recycling/Re-useUsing resources with greater care, for greener earth and cleaner air.Offices worldwide are adapting green practices to reduce the amount of glass, paper

and plastic waste they generate, from substituting printed correspondence with e-mail, to the addition of single-stream recycling bins, to using FSC-certified recycled paper.

Target: Inspired by their Earth Day success, Wyndham Exchange & Rentals Pacific looked for ways to introduce recycling to an office where no system previously existed.

Action: Through the removal of personal waste bins, staff was forced to find other methods of disposing of their waste. In addition, each department was given a plant on Earth Day for a competition to see which department could keep their plant alive the longest, raising awareness and improving staff relations.

Result: Recycling increased from zero to around three 50-liter bin loads per week of plastics.

Target: Wyndham Exchange & Rentals Pacific looked to launch a program that would help to motivate workers to reduce their paper usage.

Action: “Go Green” was launched in July 2008. Copy paper usage was tracked by department each month, with a goal of 100 reams used in total for the entire office.

Result: The 2008 average monthly use of paper was 117 reams. The average monthly paper use for up through June 2009 is 94.5 reams, well below the goal of 100.

Target: Holiday Cottages, focused on moving towards a more sustainable company, sought to increase recycling efforts.

Action: The initiative to increase recycling resulted in the separation of waste into four categories: metal, plastic, paper, and glass, which could then be recycled properly.

Result: After this initiative was implemented, over 75% of all office waste is now recycled.

Target: Guestroom key cards are frequently lost, thrown out, or taken home as a souvenir, limiting the amount of times they can be reused. Wyndham Hotels and Resorts looked for a way to continue providing quality key cards while being environmentally friendly.

Action: Wyndham Hotels and Resorts uses green guestroom key cards, which are made out of 87% recycled content. The creation of the cards makes use of recycled material, which lowers the amount of plastic used to make them. In turn, reusing the cards saves more plastic from being created.

Result: There are currently an estimated 370,000 green cards in use at Wyndham Hotels and Resorts.

Page 18: GLOBAL BEST PRACTICES - Wyndham Worldwide

17

Recycling/Re-useUsing resources with greater care, for greener earth and cleaner air.Offices worldwide are adapting green practices to reduce the amount of glass, paper

and plastic waste they generate, from substituting printed correspondence with e-mail, to the addition of single-stream recycling bins, to using FSC-certified recycled paper.

Target: Wyndham Exchange & Rentals North America experienced an overuse of paper in the Indiana offices, and looked for a way to conserve and reduce the usage of paper.

Action: In Q1, a Paper Reduction Challenge was implemented, challenging staff to find reduce amount of paper ordered for printing. The total paper ordered from the first quarter was to be compared with the total paper ordered in Q1 2008, to see how successful the challenge was.

Result: The Paper Reduction Challenge was rolled out with a goal to reduce paper usage by 10%. The Challenge was so embraced that actual reduction ended up as 36%. A total of 477,499 less sheets of paper were used than in the first quarter of the previous year, saving 69 trees.

Target: Reduce the amount of waste generated by plastic laundry bags at Wyndham Hotels and Resorts.

Action: Design and implement a biodegradable laundry bag at Wyndham Hotels and Resorts. These bags serve the same purpose as the previous plastic bags, and will not go to landfills.

Result: The biodegradable laundry bag is a Wyndham Hotels and Resorts brand standard.

Target: With the large amount of recyclable trash sent to landfills daily in mind, Wyndham Worldwide implemented a program to increase recycling and reduce trash.

Action: A single stream recycling process has been implemented in the corporate offices so that workers can easily recycle plastic, glass, and paper in the same bin. This has shown to increase recycling by 30%. By taking out this extra step, it is easier for staff to be environmentally friendly.

Result: The corporate offices at 7 and 22 Sylvan in Parsippany have recycled 26.7 tons of waste through single stream recycling. These bins are not only in communal areas but at every desk.

EducationFun and informative interaction, turning green-awareness into action

Wyndham Worldwide corporate offices around the globe are educating staff on the importance of green thinking. From informative newsletters to team-building to finding

alternative commuting solutions, Green Teams educate and inspire their fellow workers to spread the word.

Target: Wyndham Worldwide developed a plan to reach out to franchisees and consumers to inform them about its green initiatives.

Action: Wyndham Worldwide educated consumers, employees, and franchisees through the Wyndham Green Website. Associates worldwide were also trained with newsletters containing Wyndham Green updates, and by attending conferences.

Result: With the Wyndham Green Website running for over one year, along with conferences and newsletters, over 20,000 associates have been trained and updated about the Wyndham Green program.

Target: Wyndham Exchange & Rentals North America saw a need to open communication with their employees so that they could be better educated about green initiatives.

Action: The “Green Gazette” was created and sent out quarterly to Vacation Plaza employees. The newsletter raised awareness about various green initiatives and projects.

Result: 1,129 employees receive the Green Gazette quarterly.

Target: Canvas Holidays wanted to form a group specifically to oversee their green activities, ensuring a steady focus on their environmental initiatives.

Action: The Canvas Green Council was formed to review proposals and initiatives. On July 10, a Canvas Holidays “No Car Day” was hosted, where staff was encouraged to leave their cars at home and take an alternate method of transportation to work. On this same day, all staff members were presented with an energy saving light bulb for them to take home, encouraging them to embrace green ideas.

Result: This program has been running since May 2009.

Target: Recognizing the need to continue raising awareness and educating their employees, Wyndham Exchange & Rentals Mexico looked for a way to reach out to their staff.

Action: A newsletter is sent out to employees quarterly, educating them on the latest sustainable news and trends. This program engages and trains employees so that they are aware of how important it is to act in an environmentally conscious way.

Result: The newsletter is received and read by 405 employees quarterly.

Green education is a low cost activity with a high return at work or at home.

Wyndham Worldwide’s Million Pound Challenge of purchasing renewable energy is equal to taking approximately 30,000 of cars off the road for one day!

CommunityChanges happening globally begin with action locally

From recycling programs, to purchasing organically grown products, to the construction of a green headquarters building, the favorable impact of Wyndham Worldwide’s green

initiatives—and the positive example they set—reach far beyond the local level.

Target: Educate the community and showcase Wyndham Worldwide’s award winning Parsippany Corporate Headquarters.

Action: Wyndham Worldwide hosted the Wyndham USGBC Green Gala to highlight the new registered for LEED certification headquarters.

Result: Over 300 attendees attended the event, which raised their awareness of Wyndham Worldwide’s green initiatives.

Target: Recognizing the need to be involved in the community and promote environmental awareness, the Days Hotel Grand Rapids, Michigan reached out to local groups.

Action: Partnering with a local Boy Scout troop, the Days Hotel created a newspaper and magazine recycling program. This not only helps to increase recycling, but also made an impression on young children about the importance of sustainability efforts.

Result: Now 11,020 pounds of newspaper and magazines are recycled annually.

The sustainable front desk uniform at Wyndham Hotels and Resorts is made from 25 two-liter plastic bottles.

InnovationEco-friendly planning is how… our Earth will be greener years from now

From awareness programs, to nonpolluting heating fuel, to green uniforms made of recycled plastic bottles, Wyndham Worldwide employees are developing and

implementing innovative solutions that inspire others to do the same.

Target: After reviewing Wyndham Worldwide’s carbon footprint, a strategy was developed to help offset the CO2 emissions of the company. In addition, Wyndham Worldwide sought to raise awareness among franchisees and consumers alike about the importance of offsetting CO2 in the atmosphere.

Action: The Million Pounds of Renewable Energy Challenge was implemented on the Wyndham Green Website, which encourages the user to send a five dollar e-card, the value of which is donated purchasing carbon offset. The five dollar donation is worth 700 pounds of renewable wind energy, an environmentally friendly alternative to other energy sources.

Result: As of November 2009, 1 million pounds of CO2 have been offset. With each e-card sent, the sender not only donates to the challenge, but makes the recipient aware of the program as well. This is the equivalent to taking over 30,000 cars off the road in one day.

Target: The Ramada Inn of Geneva, New York was looking for a way to reduce operating costs from laundry during the frigid winter months, while improving the laundry process.

Action: The Ramada implemented the Ozone Laundry System, which uses cold water to process the property’s laundry facilities. By using cold water rather than hot, the property was able to not only save in gas used to heat the water, but also to service its guests more efficiently.

Result: Since the installation of the Ozone Laundry System in July 2006, 611,010 gallons of water and 22,634 therms of hot water have been saved. Annually there are 88,334 pounds of CO2 reduced, the equivalent of planting 33 acres of trees each year. Before the installation, due to the very cold conditions during the winter, the property would have to wash the laundry only during the night when guests would not be showering to ensure that they would have enough hot water. Now the Ramada Inn is not only saving in energy and water costs but is improving service as well.

Target: Cleaning office facilities shouldn’t make the air more polluted, and Wyndham Exchange & Rentals’s North American offices set out to make sure this didn’t happen.

Action: Eco-friendly cleaning products and green service ware are used through New Jersey and Indiana offices.

Result: 100% of the Wyndham Exchange & Rentals offices in NJ and Indiana use eco-friendly cleaning products.

Target: Continuing its trend of using recyclable material in a new and innovative way, Wyndham Hotels and Resorts challenged its uniform company, Cintas, to make a “green uniform” for Wyndham staff.

Action: Twenty five two-liter bottles are used to create each two-piece suit, which are worn by Front Desk staff.

Result: To date hotels and Wyndham Vacation Resorts used the green uniform. 10,850 bottles have been recycled, saving approximately 14.4 million BTUs and 5,016 lbs (2,275 kg) of CO2 emissions. Each uniform requires 66% less energy and 90% less water to produce than a standard uniform at Wyndham.

Wyndham Vacation Resorts Asia PacificSeven Mile Beach, Tasmania, Australia

Our Wyndham vacation resort in Australia is truly a “Sustainable Destination” due to all of the innovative Green initiatives, programs and practices at their location. The resort has:

• 61 luxury apartments (129 bedrooms) • Restaurant & conference center • Gymnasium, game rooms & owners lounge • Pool, spa and kids splash playground • BBQ and picnic area • Tennis court and beach activities

The goal of creating a sustainable destination evolved from Wyndham’s ‘Green Initiative’. The concept was developed around the existing environmental conditions of the site with the goal of preserving them.

Community Engagement and Heritage PreservationEvents for guests include local Aboriginal art shows and sales, which allow the guests to learn about the amazing local culture and connect with the flora and fauna through art which depicts themes of ‘bush tucker’ (food from the local forest).

Identification and Protection of the Environment through Restoration of Native HabitatAn onsite horticulturalist and team have set up a program to restore the native habitat to its original ecosystem. Guests are given a weekly eco-nature education tour and can also participate in the ‘plant your own tree’ program on the resort grounds.

Conservation of BiodiversityThe collective efforts of the staff and guests has resulted in an increase of the native wildlife living and roaming through the resort, include echidnas, wallabies, blue tongue lizards and various bird species as well as the threatened bandicoots. The property also features butterfly gardens.

Bush TuckerFood that is grown on site is both great tasting and has the added benefit of reducing food transport miles. Seedlings were collected locally with emphasis on endangered species. Guests are also encouraged to grab a fishing rod and to try their luck on the shores of Seven Mile Beach.

Integration of the Natural and Built EnvironmentThe organic theme in the architecture originates from geometries found in nature. The polygonal layouts of some villas are inspired by honeycombs and basalt rock shapes. Other villas are arranged in a spiral, which resembles seashells found on the adjacent beach.

Vegetation ReuseFallen timber from seasonal storm damage in the area is cut and used for firewood as well as landscaping mulch - nothing goes to waste. In addition, structural supports for the resort entrance were created from invasive pines which were removed to plant native coastal gum trees.

Other Green Initiatives in DesignThe windows and patio doors in the guest villas were designed to face the activity areas, promoting guest interaction as well as connecting to the garden views. In the last three years, 20,000 native plants have been planted to help protect the native eco system.

Reuse of WastewaterThe new aerated wastewater treatment plant with above ground tanks uses ultraviolet light to process the sewage. It is designed to kill micro-organisms within a few seconds without leaving harmful residue or by-products avoiding the use of typical treatment chemicals. After processing, the treated effluent is drip-irrigated through the subsoil to promote landscape growth and reduce the resort’s overallwater consumption.

Energy Design & EfficiencyIn keeping with green policies, energy efficiencies are evident in the ground lighting as well as recycling of office paper that is shredded and added to the garden compost. Vegetables that are grown for the resort are used in the kitchens. All foods are either grown on site or purchased locally. Only green guestroom amenities are used such as soaps and shampoos. All ceiling lighting is low voltage, all lamps use energy efficient fluorescent light bulbs. Only low VOC (Volatile Organic Compound) paints are used as well as low VOC ammonia free carpets. When waste is collected from guestrooms, they are separated into two separate bins: one for recycling and the other for generalized waste. In addition, each room is fitted with low flow plumbing and water saving shower heads. This also includes all washing machines throughout the resort.
