A global citizen in Education &

Social Work has the ability to use

knowledge and skills about global

citizenship in his/her own profession.

The practice-based, multi-disciplinary

and intercultural approach of the

programme (courses, research and

practical activities) will ensure that

Global Citizenship will become part of

the professional identity of each student.

We focus on the local communities and

neighborhoods; because that is where

the global meets the local!

Basic programme Global Citizenship refers to the challenge for people, professionals and communities to engage with a variety of global and

local identities and moralities and enable people to work together in a globally connected and intercultural environment. The

world of the young professional is characterized by a growing interplay between people, organizations and cultures in general.

People are in permanent contact with the global, even in the local realm, and intercultural encounters are a daily reality in our

villages and neighborhoods. An important question for 21st century citizenship is how to manage identities. Another important

question for modern citizenship is how to deal with ethical, social, political and other issues in a world of diversity.

Multidisciplinary andinternational

This minor wants to facilitate (international) students

from different study programs to work together in

a multidisciplinary team. The minor is designed

especially for teachers and social workers. We will

combine the knowledge, insights and skills from

these different (and international) backgrounds to

create a dynamic and explorative environment to

study Global Citizenship in the context of various

practices, especially teaching and social work.

We spend a week in the capital city of Europe: Brussels!

A fantastic experience! The study trip to Brussels

marks the transition from the basic programme to

the research placement. The programme in Brussels

presents you with a comprehensive range of

challenges both as a professional and as a person.

The key aim is to connect your experiences during

this trip to your competencies as a global citizen.

Work and research in local practice

As part of global citizenship in practice, you will

learn from good-practices and design projects

and activities of your own and implement them

in practice. Also internships are possible. Special

attention will be given to the local neighborhoods

and communities where social work and education

come together. You keep a record of your learning-

process and of all your experiences in your portfolio.

Programme

“ Meet other students from all over Europe

and beyond.”
