Climate action leadership at UN Summit is vital

The Global Greens call on the world’s leaders to commit personally at the UN Climate Summit to tackling climate change with the urgency and boldness needed to avoid catastrophic global warming.The UN Climate Summit in New York on 23 September is the first big event on the road to the UNFCCC Conference of Parties in

Paris in December 2015 where a binding global climate agreement is due to be completed.

With just 15 months to the Paris COP, it’s time for governments to state what actions they are taking at home and to signal their

preparedness to make public commitments (binding) not just contributions (voluntary) towards a global agreement by March 2015.

The test is whether the sum of the commitments made by the world’s governments will be big enough to avoid dangerous climate

change; so far the gap is huge.

Atmospheric greenhouse gas pollution reached a record high in 2013 according to the World Meteorological Organisation

underlining the urgency for the world to change direction.

The world needs action not words.

Greens around the world will be organizing and joining events on Sunday 21 September in solidarity with the ‘people’s climate

march’ in New York and working in the future for as long as it takes to solve the problem of global warming.

The Global Greens call for:

1.-Phase out government support for fossil fuelsStop deforestation and degradation of natural forests

and other natural ecosystems.

2.-Energy and equity for all through shifting to 100% renewable energy so as to lift people out of

energy poverty and to end nuclear power

3.-Meet climate finance pledges urgently with new additional grants not loans

4.-Provide locally appropriate adaptation measures through Green Economy policies to enable the

systemic changes needed for a sustainable, resilient and prosperous society

5.-Commit to a binding global post-2020 agreement in Paris in 2015 with targets based on science and

consistent with limiting warming to 1.5°C.

Green Parties around the world tell how climate change is affecting their country and what actions they are taking to address it.

On September 21st, join the global movement for climate action and call on your governments to make the systemic changes needed

to create a healthy and sustainable global society.

programs and mobilise people to take action to mitigate global warming, on September 20, 2014 in Ramnagar

To express support for the success of COP meeting, Greens Japan held seminars,

events, and parades in 23 locations in Japan（see map below) to call on the

Japanese government to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 30% by 2020 without

Nepali Greens

Nepali Greens is launching Climate Discourse Sessions with young farmers once in

a month to have an interaction on climate change, its consequences on agriculture

and ways to cope with its impacts. We will teach/train/coach on appropriate

approaches that will enhance the climate resilience of vegetable growers or young

farmers and conserve natural resources. Read more

Green Party of Aotearoa New Zealand

New Zealanders go to the polls on 20 September. The Green Party has a win-win plan

to protect our climate, achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 and leave Kiwi families better

off. Under our Climate Protection Plan, the Green Party will:

• Establish an independent Climate Commission.

• Phase out the failed Emissions Trading Scheme and instead put a meaningful price

on carbon through a charge on polluters.

South Korea emits the world's seventh largest amount of greenhouse gases. In response to the international

consensus on climate change President Lee Myung-bak pursued policies to reduce emissions by expanding

nuclear power plants; and the following government of President Park Geun-hye is unfortunately continuing

down the same path. President Geun-hye's efforts to reduce pollution are not enough. The Korean Green Party

will participate in the Global Greens campaign by continuing monitoring and contributing Green perspectives

and alternative policies to the government's response to climate change. Read more
