Dear participants,
On behalf of Belfast City Council, I am delighted to welcome you to theGlobal India Business Meeting, here in our great city.
Over the next few days you will have the opportunity to meet fellow Indianand local business leaders; form new, and rekindle existing business relation -ships; and both start and continue dialogues to further build on existing linksbetween Belfast and India.
The success of established links between India and Belfast is already evidentas organisations including Firstsource, L&T, HCL Technology, Techmahindraand Polaris Software have brought considerable investment, jobs and skills toour shores. And as a city we’re determined to build on this success to furthercement our place as a location of choice for foreign direct investment.
We’re currently investing £150 million into projects such as the introductionof super-fast broadband, building world class conference and exhibitionfacilities and establishing innovation centres and green economy businessparks. Belfast is building for the future and our young, educated and skilledworkforce will continue to be the life force pushing the city onwards.
Furthermore, the confident, changing Belfast has become a destination fortourists from around the globe, attracting 7.86 million visitors annually.Visitors are discovering a flourishing cultural scene combined with a uniqueheritage in a city transformed. A city has emerged where history is allaround you; where legacy and tradition live on in our stories; where the sharphumour and vibrant creativity of people bring the city to life. It has become agate way through which visitors go on to experience the fantastic hospitalitythat we have to offer.
