Animal Testing and Experimentation
Animals Used in Testing
18 to 22 million animals are tested on every year in the United States
About 19.5 million of the animals die during the research.
Every 1/100 animals in pounds end up in a research lab.
Did you know…
Chimpanzees used to heavily populate 25 African countries…
but after being taken for testing…
they’re almost extinct in13 of them.
Draize eye test
500,000 rabbits are used every year for the Draize test…
which is where a substance is put into one of the rabbits eyes to see the affects.
Botox…
is injected into animals stomachs,
that then courses through their bloodstream,
and suffocates them after 3-4 days.
Why?
So that people don’t have to live with wrinkles.
Animal tests are not always reliable or accurate…
Did you know…
Every year, 250,000 people are hospitalized from using failed drugs...
that were okayed after being tested on animals.
Animals Used in Experiments
THISTOTHIS
Only 43% of adults in America are against animal testing and experimentation.
Thousands of chimpanzees are used in AIDS research, even though it’s already been proven that it doesn’t affect them.
In many experiments, animals are infected with diseases to see how they cope.
On average, an experiment uses 50-100 animals…
and most of the time at least half or more of them die.
Luckily...
There’s some good news…
Because of new technology and advanced science….
There are many methods that can help replace animal testing and experiments…
It’s just that more experimenters need to actually use them.
You may not be able to do much there…
But there’s still lots of other things you can do…
You can volunteer at a local animal shelter.
You can write a letter to your newspaper and ask to include an article on animal rights.
You can make a website online.
You can create a display or poster for your local library.
You can start a fundraiser and donate to an animal rights group.
You can get the word out!
You can help!
Thanks for watching
