    Physical Education

    2013 -2014 Ex ectations

    Sportsmanship is defined as:

    Playing Fair

    Following the rules of the game

    Respecting the judgment

    of the referees and officials

    Treating opponents with respect

    Good sportsmanship is like the"golden rule" of sports, treat peopleyou play with and against, as you'dlike to be treated yourself. Youdemonstrate good sportsmanshipwhen you show respect for yourself,your teammates, and youropponents, for the coaches on bothsides, and for the referees, judges,and other officials.

    Physical Education Goals:1. Students will have an

    opportunity to participate

    and learn about a widevariety of activities thatinclude team games,outdoor recreation,Individual and Dual Games,Team Building and Life TimeActivities.

    2. Students will learn aboutsportsmanship and theimportance it plays in allaspects of life.

    3. Have opportunities toparticipate in a wide varietyof after school activities and

    events.

    4. How to use heart ratedevices, pedometers andother pieces of equipmentto help set goals and learnmore about fitness andwellness.

    5. Create short and long termgoals through out the yearthat are challenging andthought provoking.

    Class Rules and Guidelines

    Grades 5-8

    Students are expected to come to classready to participate. Proper footwear andclothing are needed according to theweather. Shoes with laces must be tied

    correctly and not just slipped on.

    If a student is not prepared they will

    receive only half credit for the day and

    may be asked to walk for the duration ofclass. If it is a second offense a letter will

    be sent home to inform the parents. If thereis a problem obtaining proper attire please

    let me know so we can work somethingout.

    If a student is injured and cannotparticipate in class please send a note into

    class so I can provide that student with aproject or task to work on that is related tophysical education or the unit we areworking on.

    Grades:

    - 70% will be behavior andparticipation

    - 15 % will be skill test and unitassessments.

    - 15% will be take home projectsand classroom assignments

    Participation is based on the following:

    - Prepared for class

    - Shows good sportsmanship- Is respectful to others,

    equipment and school- Is on task and positive

    Hands-Off Policy:Students are expected tomaintain control of their

    bodies all of the time.I am asking students to follow a hands-off

    policy. Students are asked to keep theirhands and body to themselves during class.I would like to see students resist theimpulses to fool around. Students are not

    allowed to push, bump, poke, trip or get inother peoples self-space.

    Physical Education Curriculum:

    August/Sept.: Team Games and Fitness

    October: Team Games

    November: Team Building/Team Games

    December: Indoor Recreation

    January: Winter Recreation

    February: Winter Recreation

    March: Rhythm and Dance

    April: Team Games

    May: Fitness and Team Games

    June: Summer Activities

    Recommendations:

    1. Bring an extra pair of shoes and

    socks on PE days incase yours get wet.

    2. Wear pants and shirts that allow eas

    movement during class.

    3. Keep deodorant in your book bag.

    4. Keep a jacket or sweatshirt at schoo

    forcool days.

    5. Bring a water bottle to class.
