SOWING CLASS

Model United Nations California Youth & Government Our MUN program is a leadership program for middle school youth that uses the United Nations framework to develop strong leadership, public speaking, and debate skills among its participants. MUN is a statewide program that consists of over 800 youth from around California. Weekly Meetings During weekly meetings, participants will select the country they represent in the UN, learn about the country, and shape their arguments from the country's perspective. Additionally, the youth will learn about debate and public speaking techniques, which they will practice and rely on during both conferences. Conferences During conferences, participants (known as ambassadors) learn about programmatic details including the five organs of the United Nations. Ambassadors will also learn about parliamentary procedure, debate, and global issues including public health, poverty, and more. While at MUN Summit, Ambassadors will play out the role of their chosen UN Country and Organ. Gateway MUN Delegation Meetings January 10th– May 17th Wednesdays, 3:30-5:00pm Contact Nancy Hernandez for more information or after—January 10th, 5:30-6:30PM Room 107

YMCA FUN FACT

Sonora Louise Smart of Spokane, Washington pitched the idea of having a special day to honor dutiful dads everywhere at a regional YMCA meeting. The facility—enamored with her suggestion—held America’s first Father’s Day celebration on June 19th, 1910.
