After only a month of rehearsals, the Newark High School Drama Club will present

“Anatomy of Gray” this weekend, October 14th and 15th at 7:30 p.m., in the Newark High School auditorium.

And Director Emily Howard says the audiences will be pleased with the caliber of the acting and the overall production.

“I am extremely proud of this group of young actors and crew,” raved Howard. “We created this production in just four short weeks. I have a group of very strong actors and committed crew members. I knew this group of students was ready to tackle a dramatic piece of theatre. One of the reasons I was drawn to “Anatomy of Gray” is the community and relationships that must be present to make this piece work. I've asked the cast and crew what "community" means to them and what causes unity or division in a group. We've spent time in rehearsals building character relationships and creating this community of Gray, Indiana. I'm excited to invite audiences in to experience this story with us.

Howard revealed some of the story line. “When June's father dies, she prays for a healer to come to the small town of Gray, so that no one will ever suffer again. The next thing she knows, there's a tornado, and a man in a balloon blows into

town claiming to be a doctor. At first, the new doctor cures anything and everything, but soon the town's preacher takes ill with a mysterious plague. And then the plague begins to spread. Set in Indiana during the late 1800's, deals with death, loss, love, and healing in a unique coming of age story.”

“One of the exciting things for me about this production is that the students are taking on some of the production elements,” Howard said. “I have a student lighting designer and a student hair/makeup designer. The cast and crew also took an active role in props and set building/painting.”
