College University
PURPOSE Most programs are applied; purpose is to prepare for specific career
Most programs are not applied; purpose is to gain knowledge and expertise in certain area
LENGTH OF STUDY Most programs are 2-3 years in length
Most programs are 3-4 years
TEACHING/LEARNING Focus is hands on and applied; often involve field placement
Focus is on lecture style and text book learning
WHERE YOU END UP May need to pursue further education to move up or qualify for certain jobs
May need to additional job related training or to pursue further education
