They come to the Church, and then they go without too much connection with all of us who are regular parishioners. It is my hope to change all of that by inviting the families to join us for Mass on the day of the Baptism. I am hoping to take a moment of time in the Mass to introduce the families and celebrate the Rite of Welcome with them from the Baptism ritual. In this way, we and they may get to know each other a little better and you will know who is joining our parish through the celebration of Baptism. FIRST COMMUNION & CONFIRMATION. We are about to embark upon a most interesting journey. The families who have children in Grade 3 and 4, are about to sign up for the next Sacraments for their children. This week just passed, we provided two parent meetings to get the parents together and outline the sacramental timeline that is ahead for them and for us as a parish. It will begin on 25th/26th March with a Rite of Enrolment when the Candidates will be introduced to the Parish and enrolled into the Sacramental Journey. The families will be asked to join in the sacred journey of the Holy Week Triduum, Holy Thursday, Good Friday and the Easter Masses, hopefully to understand the significance of the Eucharist that we celebrate each week. They will come, and they will share in the Journey to Easter. First Communion will take place on the weekend of 17th/18th June when the Candidates and their families will gather with us to enable their children to share and celebrate Eucharist with us for the first time. While this may be seen as the end of the Sacramental Journey, we all know that it is only the beginning as the children and their fami- lies are invited and encouraged to come to mass with us each week. Now is the time that our community can grow because for the new participants in our Eucharistic celebrations. Please welcome them. As for the Celebration of Confirmation, the children who are to be Confirmed this year, will participate in a somewhat different jour- ney as they enter into the second stage of Initiation on the way to full and active participation as members of our parish. That will come later in the year. Wait and see!! MINISTERS REQUIRED. While Jean and I with the support of the handful of ministers who give of their time to support this important Sacramental journey each year, as time moves on, things will change. For future Sacramental formation journeys, I am asking for parishioners to step forward and be involved. We need people who can walk with the kids, we need people who can provide extra support and we need caterers who will feed the kids while they are with us. In 2018, God needs YOU. Be prepared for action. God bless, Fr John GA303 Grant to Us O Lord a Heart Renewed ( refrain only ) If today you hear his voice, harden not your hearts. PROJECT COMPASSION 2017 WEEK 3

18TH – 19TH MARCH Uncle Richard from Australia, Short Story

First Australian Uncle Richard is a survivor of the Stolen Generations, forcibly removed from his family as a child and taken to Kinchela Boys Home (KBH) in NSW. Hundreds of Indigenous boys were incarcerated there between 1924 and 1970, suffering ongoing physical and verbal abuse. They lost every aspect of their identity – their names, their culture and their families.

When Uncle Richard left KBH, he struggled with the legacy of pain, trying to find relief through his work as an artist. But he attributes the beginning of his healing to something even more powerful than his creative work, his reconnection with former KBH boys.

The KBH Aboriginal Corporation (KBHAC) was established by KBH survivors to reunite with one another and begin healing. KBHAC’s Unlocking the Past to Free the Future Program works to restore the social and emo-tional wellbeing of the survivors and their families. The former KBH boys have realised that their shared suffering has created a brotherhood. They support each other by sharing their stories, and coming to a common understanding of how their experiences have impacted on themselves and their descendants.

LENTEN JOURNEY 2017 It is the third Sunday of Lent and this weekend we are confronted by the story of Jesus and the Woman at the well. It was through this encounter that her life would be changed as Jesus first redeemed her and then sent her on mission. This woman, outcast within her own community was the very person who would bring that same Community to Jesus Christ. Come and see she had said to them, come and see, and in spite of her standing within the community the people of her village did exactly that, they would come and see. They too would meet Christ and no doubt their lives were changed as well. So, come and see for yourselves!
