My Dear Brothers and Sisters. In today’s Holy Gospel, Jesus predicts his death and resurrection. These are great mysteries of our faith. We will die ourselves one day, but the Lord has promised to raise up those who believe in him. Let us live our lives in the reality of this promise. We will soon be ordering new hymnals for the pews. We are switching to the St. Michael Hymnal. This new hymnal has a greater selection of hymns, including the traditional as well as new ones, and it is just a hymnal. The readings will be found in the new green books along with the proper antiphons for Mass. The cost is $14.50 each and we are ordering 500 copies so there will be plenty for the pews and choir. If you wish to contribute to this project, your help will be greatly appreciated. His Excellency Bishop Joensen has RECOMMENDED masks in church. Remember that if you feel ill in any way you are excused from attending Mass. Our Foundation Dinner last Sunday evening was a great success. Everyone had a good time, and it was a very delightful evening. My thanks to all of those who worked so hard to pull it off. God’s blessing and peace be yours! MEMORIAL MASS: There will be a Memorial Mass for Al Remetch on Thursday, September 30 at 10:00 am. Al was a long time parishioner and served on the altar before moving to Arizona a few years ago. He passed away on September 7.

LIFELINES: THE RIGHT TO LIBERTY DOESN’T GIVE US LICENSE TO HARM OTHER HUMAN BEINGS: For example, someone may have the freedom to throw a ball, but that doesn’t give him or her license to throw that ball into the head of a toddler. Abortion is similar to the latter — inflicting harm on a separate, distinct human being — and liberty rights were never designed to allow for that. Moreover, of those two rights, life and liberty, one is more foundational: the right to life, which means it gets

Man-Up West, October 2021: Why We’re Pro-Life! Friday, October 8th, Noon/St. Francis of Assisi Parish, West Des Moines. Man-Oh-Man! Come and join our October Man-Up Event with two of our front-line leaders in the “Life” effort, Bryan Gonzalez, Director of Development, InnerVisions HealthCare and Tom Quiner, Board President, Iowans for LIFE. Bryan and Tom will help us understand what’s going on with the “Heartbeat” law and the question of “When Does Human Life Begin?” They will also tell us why their organizations and other Pro-Life organizations are busier than they’ve ever been. Lunch (Chick-fil-A)/Program: 12:00 pm, October 8th, St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church- 7075 Ashworth Rd, West Des Moines, IA 50266. Register for this event at iowacatholicradio.com/events. Umeri, the Drake University alumni choir- conducted by Aimee Beckmann-Collier, will present “Music of Compassion and Consolation” on Sunday, October 3, 3:00 pm, at St. Ambrose Cathedral, Sixth Avenue and High Street, in downtown Des Moines. The concert will include the Durufle Requiem, featuring members of the Des Moines Symphony in collaboration with the choir, as well as three short pieces by young American composers. A free marriage enrichment program is for all couples whether they are facing obstacles in their marriage or just trying to make a good thing better! BENEDICTINE OBLATES: Are you interested in deepening your spiritual growth through study and prayer in the Benedictine tradition? The Des Moines chapter of Oblates of Conception Abbey meets monthly at the Basilica. This month’s meeting is Sunday, September 26 at 2:30 p.m. We would love to have you join us!
