Prayer to End a School Year
God of wisdom;
We thank you for all the gifts you have given us throughout this
school year. We praise you for giving us life, for saving us in
Christ and for choosing us to be your people. As we come to the
end of this school year, we voice our gratitude of the good
things you have done in us, and we praise you for all who have
shared in the work of this school.
We ask you to bless them in your love and give them
refreshment and peace. We praise you, God, through Jesus
Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns forever and ever.
Amen.
MESSAGE FROM ADMINISTRATION
It is hard to believe that another school year is quickly coming to a close. It has been a spectacular
learning experience. The month of June will be a very busy one with many classes going on fieldtrips as
well as several year-end celebrations taking place. Please check the newsletter calendar for important
dates.
With the close of every school year comes the opportunity for change and growth. We wish our departing
grade six students and those moving on to other schools every success in their new endeavors. The same
sentiment is expressed for our staff members who are moving on to new stages of their careers. God bless
to all who have made such important contributions to the fabric of our school. Watch for an updated staff
list to be sent home at the end of June.
On behalf of the staff of St. Peter School, I would like to applaud the efforts of all parents for yet another
successful year. Special thanks are extended to parent volunteers, members of School Council, and all
parents in general for their active involvement in your child’s education. Your combined efforts make a
valuable contribution towards a positive learning environment at St. Peter School. Thank you!
The staff of St. Peter School wishes you a safe and relaxing summer.
God Bless
Mr. B. Campbell Ms. M. Jones

LAST DAY OF CLASSES
The last day of classes for the 2015 – 2016 school year is Tuesday, June 28, 2016. It is a full day with
dismissal and report card distribution at 3:15pm.
If for some reason your child will not be attending school on June 28th, please make
arrangements to pick up your child’s report card on June 28th or supply the
office with a self-addressed stamped envelope to have it mailed to your home.
KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION
Kindergarten registration for the 2016-2017 school year is on-going. To register your child for
Kindergarten, your child must turn 5 on or before February 28, 2017. Please contact the office for
registration forms.
Child’s birth certificate
Parent or child baptismal certificate
WELCOME BACK FORMER STUDENTS
St. Peter School has had families come and go for various reasons. We wanted to let you know that if you
have in the past left our school for whatever reason, families are always welcome to return to St. Peter
School and our safe and caring community. Please contact the office to re-register your child.
BEFORE AND AFTER SCHOOL ON THE PLAYGROUND
As the weather warms up and the days get longer, we are noticing that students are arriving earlier and
staying later on the school grounds each day. We would like to remind parents that supervision of our
students begins at 8:30 am in the morning, and we ask that students do not arrive before that time. After
school, students should only remain on the playground if a parent or responsible adult is there to supervise
them.
MILK PROGRAM
The last day of our milk program will be June 24th. Any milk left after Friday will be
distributed the following week until supplies are depleted. Any unused milk cards
may be used next school year.
ARE YOU MOVING?
To help us plan for the upcoming school year, creating class lists, etc, it
is very important that we determine as closely as possible the total
number of children in each grade. The more accurate our enrollment
information is, the more accurate our advance planning can be. If you
are planning a move out of our school community, please notify the
office as soon as possible.
FOOD ACCESS VAN
We will continue to provide fresh fruits and vegetables from Brown Bagging for Calgary Kids (Food
Access Van) this month. For a small charge of $5, folks are welcome to access a bag of produce at 3:00
pm on June 2nd and our last one of the year will be on June 16th in front of the school.
GOOD BOOK BOX
Our latest initiative to promote literacy with our students and families is called The Good Book Box. It’s a
pilot project sponsored by Brown Bagging for Calgary Kids and Calgary Reads. The intent is to have a
number of students who receive lunches with our lunch programs also receive a brand new book to take
home. We are attempting to expand the home libraries of our students. Please watch for new books that
may be in your child’s backpack in the coming weeks.

STUDENT DRESS
To protect and preserve our school, we request that all students have indoor and outdoor footwear. Health
regulations and monthly fire drills mandate the wearing of proper footwear in the school at all times. As
the warmer weather arrives, many classes are outside for physical activities. We request the use of proper
footwear.
Beach-type footwear and sandals are not safe for physical activity. Running shoes are
required for daily physical education. Please also refer to the student agenda for guidelines in regards to
appropriate acceptable clothing as the warm weather sets in.

good community helpers. Patrols will celebrate their year by attending a picnic at Heritage Park on

Become a “Well Travelled Reader” this summer with our Little Free Library Passport
challenge!
Like books? Like travel? How about a literacy-inspired journey around Calgary? It’s free, fun for you,
your family, group or team . . . and you can earn a great prize!
At Calgary Reads we inspire a reading-revival movement. Now, as part of spreading the joy of reading –
you can take part in our Little Free Library Passport challenge:
1. First: visit the Passport Office (aka Calgary Reads – 105, 105 12th Ave SE) and collect your free
Little Free Library Passport.
2. Then alone . . . or with your family, friends or group (who have Passports too) – visit the 14 Little
Free Libraries (reader citizenship posts!) listed in the Passport. Use the stamps provided at each
Little Free Library to stamp your Passport on the corresponding page.
3. Return to the Passport Office with at least 10 stamps in your Passport and receive a custom
“Well Travelled Reader” badge to sew onto your jacket, backpack or hat. Treat each Little Free
Library as if it were a different country and the stamp as your proof of entrance (visit)!
This adventure is open to anyone. Help us highlight the Little Free Library movement and share the
importance of literacy and the joy of reading! On your travels perhaps bring a book or two to leave
behind or choose a new (to you) one from a Little Free Library as you visit.
This project is an exciting collaboration with Calgary’s 2014-2016 poet laureate Derek Beaulieu. Award
winning poet, author and publisher, Derek’s creativity flourishes. He created the stunning visual poems
in our Passport.
So, be a Well Travelled Reader! Don’t forget to share your photos with us @CalgaryReads using hashtag
#yycLFLPassport.
The Calgary Reads office will be closed for summer break from July 18 to August 15, 2016. Pick up your free Passport soon
and come back late summer to collect your badge! Calgaryreads.com
