FEAST OF PASSOVER

Exo 12:3-14

. . . take to them every man a lamb, according to the house of their

fathers, a lamb for an house:

And ye shall keep it up until the fourteenth day of the same

month: and the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall

kill it in the evening. 7 And they shall take of the blood, and strike

it on the two side posts and on the upper door post of the houses

And they shall eat the flesh in that night, roast with fire, and

unleavened bread; and with bitter herbs they shall eat it.

Exo 12:3-14

And thus shall ye eat it; with your loins girded, your shoes on your

feet, and your staff in your hand; and ye shall eat it in haste: it is

the Lord 's passover.

For I will pass through the land of Egypt this night, and will smite

all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and

against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I am the

Lord.

I Cor 5:7-8

. . . for even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us: 8 Therefore

let us keep the feast,

not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and

wickedness; but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.

An Insight into the Heart of GOD

God could have made His appointed times, times of sorrow.

He could have made them times of severe fasting and repentance.

That’s how some view God! (Greek Paganism: Asceticism – suffering makes you holy)

There are times for FASTING!

But MOST of God’s appointed times are times of FEASTING.

God wants us to ENJOY Him and experience his GOODNESS.

Page 8: God's appointed time part 3

God uses appointed times to create a RHYTHM

They align our lives with God’s creative rhythm and cause us to RESONATE with

His timing

They cause us to be in sync with rhythm of God.

They help us be at the right time and right place.

They help us to not miss windows of opportunity.

That’s why it’s KEY to Understanding the Times!

Page 9: God's appointed time part 3

Some think Passover is just for Jews!

The New Testament tells us that Passover is a celebration for US!

Jesus and the apostles all celebrated Passover.

IN THE NEW TESTAMENT . . .

The original “Last Supper” was a Passover celebration.

In the early church, Passover was the most important holiday in the year!

I Cor 5:7-8 . . . for even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us:

Therefore let us keep the feast, . . .

Page 10: God's appointed time part 3

FEAST OF PASSOVER

What is Passover?

• PASSOVER IS THE CELEBRATION OF GOD’S LOVE AND POWER TO DELIVER HIS PEOPLE OUT OF THE HAND OF THEIR ENEMY

• NOT TO BE JUST A RITUAL OR A HOLIDAY

• IT IS ATIME SET BY GOD FOR SPECIFIC PURPOSES.

• IT’S A TIME FOR SPIRITUAL TRANSACTIONS WITH GOD. . .

to praise Him for His Work in the Past.

to allow Him to do a New Work today.

to gain faith for His work in the future

Page 11: God's appointed time part 3

FEAST OF PASSOVER

What is Passover?

• FOR THE JEWS . . . IT WAS TO BE A CELEBRATION OF GOD’S POWER IN SETTING THEM FREE FROM SLAVERY IN EGYPT.

• THEY HAD BEEN IN BONDAGE, UNDER BITTER

OPRESSION. They cried out to God . . . He delivered

them through PASSOVER.

• FOR CHRISTIANS, WE ALSO HAVE A DELIVERANCE TO CELEBRATE.. .

• WE have also been in bondage, under the oppression

of a cruel enemy . . . SATAN.

PASSOVER is a vivid picture of how God delivers US.

Page 12: God's appointed time part 3

Understanding Passover

What was PASSED OVER at Passover?

The ISRAELITES were passed over.

Time had come for God’s JUDGMENT to fall.

It would have fallen on everyone . . . But God gave the Israelites a way of escape.

The key to their rescue was not in an army . . .

It was not in some great, heroic deed . . .

THE DELIVERANCE CAME THROUGH THE SMALLEST, WEAKEST, MOST INNOCENT, THING

IMAGINABLE . . .

Page 13: God's appointed time part 3

A PURE SPOTLESS LAMB.

When the blood of the lamb was placed on the doorpost…

God accepted the death of that lamb in place of Israel’s firstborn.

ANGEL of DEATH Passed Over them

Page 14: God's appointed time part 3

FEAST OF PASSOVER

Why is Passover important for us?

1. We are Spiritually United with IsraelRom 11:17 And if some of the branches be broken off, and thou,

being a wild olive tree, wert grafted in among them, and with them partakest of the root and fatness of the olive tree;

Eph 2:12 That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world:13 But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.

19 Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God;

Page 23: God's appointed time part 3

FEAST OF PASSOVER

Why is Passover important for us?

2. Passover is Part of God’s Plan of Salvation

APART FROM PASSOVER . . .

• The Jews would nave died as slaves in Egypt

• Jesus could not have come

• RESULT: No Salvation for us

• You would end in Hell

Page 24: God's appointed time part 3

FEAST OF PASSOVER

Why is Passover important for us?

3. God DISIGNED Passover as a Celebration of Jesus

1 Cor 5:7-8 Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us: 8 Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.

Page 25: God's appointed time part 3

FEAST OF PASSOVER

Why is Passover important for us?

GOD could have had Jesus die at any time of the year

GOD CHOSE TO HAVE HIM DIE AT PASSOVER

God CHOSE Passover because PASSOVER was GIVEN to teach us about Jesus.

In PASSOVER we come to understand what His death accomplished.

Page 26: God's appointed time part 3

FEAST OF PASSOVER

Passover is ALL about JESUS

He came as the LAMB of GOD

His blood redeems us.

Judgment turned away.

Power of enemy broken.

We are released from bondage and oppression.

We are set free to enter into God’s Promise

EVERYTHING IN PASSOVER IS A PICTURE OF JESUS

Page 27: God's appointed time part 3

FEAST OF PASSOVER

Passover is ALL about JESUS

God’s deliverance always comes by His cross and by His blood

Every father in Israel made the sign of the cross in the blood of the Lamb

Page 28: God's appointed time part 3

FEAST OF PASSOVER

One strangest things in the world is that we have accepted Satan’s lie.

Passover is not a “Christian” thing

So instead we get the easter bunny

Page 29: God's appointed time part 3

FEAST OF PASSOVER

But Passover is ALSO how we became the PEOPLE of GOD

Confession of Faith:

I am REDEEMED

by the blood of the LAMB

OUT OF THE HAND

OF THE ENEMY

That’s the message of PASSOVER

Page 30: God's appointed time part 3

FEAST OF PASSOVER

That is STILL God’s desire for you today!

At Passover, God wants you to experience the reality of His power to

DELIVER

It’s a time to thank God for His deliverance in the past.

It’s a time to enter into His deliverance for you NOW in every area of life.

A generational feast…

Takes place in the HOME

FEAST OF PASSOVER

Celebrating the Feast!

1. THE BITTER HERBS

Everyone has to taste horseradish.

Bitter herbs are symbolic of the bitterness of slavery.

As Christians, they remind us of our lives before we knew Jesus. They are symbolic

of the bitter cup our Lord tasted on our behalf. The horseradish brings tears to our

eyes as we taste it and remember.

Page 34: God's appointed time part 3

2. THE LAMB

The lamb pictures the lamb slain in Egypt, to set Israel free from bondage.

Israel in hopeless situation, but God had PLAN

By the blood of the lamb, Israelites were delivered form judgment and set free to

receive the promise.

NOTE: Lamb Commanded! Gamaliel: Essential

But Jews today don’t have lamb at Passover

(SHANKBONE)

In rejecting God’s Lamb . . . No lamb at all.

Page 35: God's appointed time part 3

FEAST OF PASSOVER

Celebrating the Feast!

3. THE UNLEAVENED BREAD

In Passover, we not only remember the lamb slain in Egypt. We also celebrate the true

Lamb of God, Jesus the Messiah, who was sacrificed to bear the sin of the world.

At this point in the Passover meal . . .

The hidden matzo (afikomen) is taken out of it’s hiding place.

Page 36: God's appointed time part 3

FEAST OF PASSOVER

Celebrating the Feast!

John 20:6 Then Simon Peter came, following him, and

went into the tomb. He saw the linen cloths lying

there, 7 and the face cloth, which had been on

Jesus ' head, not lying with the linen cloths but

folded up in a place by itself.

Page 37: God's appointed time part 3

FEAST OF PASSOVER

Celebrating the Feast!

Afikomen was middle loaf from the “unity” of 3.

When the afikomen was broken earlier in the service, it symbolized Jesus’ death.

When the loaf was wrapped in linen, it pictured the wrapping of His body in linen after His

death.

When the wrapped bread was put under the pillow it symbolized His burial.

Now the pillow is removed, picturing the stone that was removed by the angel

The matzo is unwrapped and held up for all to see. This symbolizes the resurrection of

Jesus!

Page 38: God's appointed time part 3

FEAST OF PASSOVER

Celebrating the Feast!

At this point in the Passover meal,

Jesus took the afikomen in His hands . . .

“Having taken bread, when He had given thanks, He broke it, and gave it to them, saying, ‘This is

my body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of Me.’”

Luke 22:19
