God's Great Woman

2 Kings 4:8-37

I. Her Compassion for the Prophet of God. (Vs. 9-10)

A. Elisha often went to Shunem on his circuit.

B. This great woman saw that Elisha's need for lodging.

C. She cared enough for God's man to get involved.

D. Although at this time she was not a mother yet she possessed a mother's compassion.

II. Her Contentment with the Provision of God. (Vs.12-17)

A. Elisha wanted to do something to repay her kindness she had shown to him.

- "What can I do for you?"

B. This great woman turned down his offer.- "I dwell among my own people."

- 1 Timothy 6:6: Now godliness with contentment is great gain.

C. Elisha heard of her being without child. (V. 14)

D. God honored her contentment and service.- Psalm 37:4, "Delight yourself also in the LORD, And He shall give you the desires of your heart."

III. Her Confidence in the Power of God. (Vs. 18-31)

A. The child became ill and died.

B. This great woman of faith, showed her confidence in God in the greatest crisis of her life.

Romans 8:28: And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.

C. She knew that God would care for her child.

Romans 8:26

Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses.

For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought,

but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us

with groaning's which cannot be uttered.
