Most Christians today un- derstand Jesus the Son, and God the Father as two very distinct Persons within the Godhead; however, there has been much confusion over the identity of the Holy Spirit. Perhaps some of this dates back to the King James translation of the Bible where the word "Spirit" or "Ghost" was used instead of "Breathe" or "Wind" of God. In any case, many people throughout the ages have thought of the Holy Spirit more as a thing than a Person. Nothing could be further from the truth, and in fact as we begin to know the Person of the Holy Spirit we will want to have a closer relationship with Him just as we would the Father or Son. Although the word Trinity is not mentioned in the Bible, we know God is three in one. There are three very distinct Person’s that make up the Godhead. They are all equal in every way. They (The Father, Son and Holy Spirit) are all: Omnipotent – All powerful. While it remained, was it not your own? And after it was sold, was it not in your own power? Why have you conceived this thing in your heart? You have not lied unto men, but unto God.” The Holy Spirit was part of all things, from the very beginning of scripture to the very end of scripture Genesis 1:1 “In the beginning God (elohiym (pronounced eloheem') created the heaven and the earth.” Elohiym is the plural form of God. Therefore, as scripture was in- spired and man began to write the Word, it was evident to the writers that God was made of more than 1 Person but at the same time there was one God head. There are many scriptural references that show the coexistence of the entities within the Trinity: Luke 3:22 “And the Holy Ghost descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon him, and a voice came from heaven, which said, Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased.” Here we see the evidence of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit all mentioned within one verse. We also see the same reference elsewhere in the Gospels. Matthew 3:16-17 “And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” Mark 1:10-13 “And straightway coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens opened, and the Spirit like a dove descending upon him: And there came a voice from heaven, saying, Thou art my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. And immediately the Spirit driveth him into the wilderness. And he was there in the wilderness forty days, tempted of Satan; and was with the wild beasts; and the angels ministered unto him.” Deuteronomy demon- strates the God Israel served was one God head made of a plurity of entities within that Godhead. Deuteronomy 6:4 “Hear, O Israel: The LORD (Yehovah (pronounced yehhovaw') our God (elohiym) is one LORD (Yehovah)” It is important to under- stand the Holy Spirit is truly God be- cause of the fact that if we are born again He lives in us. Four important principles to remem- ber: 1) The Holy Spirit is God, but He is a Person, not a force. 2) We cannot focus on the Holy Spirit too much. Why? What is the Holy Spirit’s mission? To reveal Jesus. What is Jesus mission…to reveal the Father. What about the Father…to send Jesus and the Holy Spirit so we can come to Him. Perfect Harmony. They never had a crisis management meeting in Heaven. They never tried to sit down and work things out. that when I returned I would have received it back with interest. 28 “‘So take the bag of gold from him and give it to the one who has ten bags. 29 For whoever has will be given more, and they will have an abun-dance. The Parable of the Bags of Gold 14 “Again, it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted his wealth to them. 15 To one he gave five bags of gold, to another two bags, and to another one bag,[a] each according to his ability. Then he went on his journey. 16 The man who had received five bags of gold went at once and put his money to work and gained five bags more. 17 So also, the one with two bags of gold gained two more. 18 But the man who had received one bag went off, dug a hole in the ground and hid his master’s money. 19 “After a long time the master of those servants returned and settled

Matthew 25:14-30 accounts with them. 20 The man who had received five bags of gold brought the other five. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘you entrusted me with five bags of gold. See, I have gained five more.’ 21 “His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happi-ness!’ 22 “The man with two bags of gold also came. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘you en-trusted me with two bags of gold; see, I have gained two more.’ 23 “His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! O n my Talk 8 day when I am still a participant, I was

asked to pick any Gifts of the Holy Spirit that I desired to get. I chose only four gifts: (1) Gift of Knowl-edge, (2) Gift of Wisdom, (3) Gift of Faith and (4) Gift of Discern-ment. Of course, I wanted all the Gifts. But I never tried to choose Gift of tongues and interpretation that time because for me, it is for the highest level of believers and I do not imagine myself to become one.

Having the mind-set of a participant, I certainly not upkeep about what they (SFC Members) are talking about the Holy Spirit. I just listen, keep it in mind for a minute and then let it go after the talk session. I just went with the flow without having a real reflec-tion of what is going to be hap-pened next.

I became a certified member of SFC when I truly ex-perience and personally encoun-tered the Holy Spirit. Remember that I never really asked for the gift of tongues. But during our praise and worship headed by Tito Ru-dolf, there was this something happened to me that I cannot explain. I remember what Tito Rudolf said, “You will not be able to speak in tongues when you do not know how to praise and wor-ship Him.”

put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happi-ness!’ 24 “Then the man who had received one bag of gold came. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘I knew that you are a hard man, harvesting where you have not sown and gathering where you have not scattered seed. 25 So I was afraid and went out and hid your gold in the ground. See, here is what belongs to you.’ 26 “His master replied, ‘You wicked, lazy servant! So you knew that I har-vest where I have not sown and gather where I have not scattered seed? 27 Well then, you should have put my money on deposit with the bankers, so

And so I prayed, praised and worshipped Him wholeheart-edly. Being aware of the sins that I made, I felt unworthy. But I sin-cerely demanded God to forgive me. I confessed to Him all my sins, I lifted up to Him my pains, all my struggles and all the time that I’ve been so untrue to myself and to Him. I did it with so much tears in my eyes and later on, I felt His embrace, His forgiveness, His love. When I felt that, I was called to praise and worshipped Him. And as I opened my mouth, I felt my body is shaking- from feet to head. I cannot even control my mouth shouting words that I do not un-derstand. I tried to control and stop it but I ended seating, crying and continuously speaking in tongues while others are already standing. That moment only fin-ished when my brothers and sis-ters hugged me.

From that experience, I only realized that nothing is im-possible if we believe in Him. My faith augmented and step by step, I was able to continue my journey with so much dedication for Him. He changed my life and helped me to make a 180 degree turn. He assisted me whenever I need to perform a decision. I can feel that He is willing to empower me whenever I felt weak. He is always there and I can feel His presence.

Experiencing the Holy Spirit

I changed a lot. From an anti-social to a friendly person, from a fearful student to stand in front of the class to do reporting to a willing messenger of His Words, from a great dreamer for success and wealth to a simple Christian with a life totally surrendered to God’s will.

Until now, I am excited of how He will change my life ac-cording to His plan. I am still look-ing forward for His greatest gifts for me because I know that what I wanted in my life is nothing with what He is preparing for me.

BIBLE REFLECTION

The faithful use of one’s gift will lead to participation in the fullness of God’s Kingdom, while the lazy inactivity merits the exclu-sion from it. If we are faithful in small matters then we will be given greater responsibilities. God gives further under-standing to one who accepts the revealed mystery. From the one who does not, He will take away. Such as the fate of those who re-fused to believe in Jesus and such will be our fate when we refuse to share God’s Words to those who have yet to know Him. Do we value the talents given by the Lord to each one of us? Do we use them to attain eter-nal happiness in heaven? Source: In His Steps

1 Corinthians 12:4-14 4 There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. 5 There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. 6 There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work. 7 Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. 8 To one there is given through the Spirit a message of wis-dom, to another a message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, 9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, 10 to another miraculous pow-ers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues,[a] and to still another the interpretation of tongues.[b] 11 All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he distributes them to each one, just as he de-termines. 12 Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ. 13 For we were all baptized by[c] one Spirit so as to form one body—whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink. 14 Even so the body is not made up of one part but of many.

Refrain: You shall be clothed with power from on high When the Holy Spirit comes to you And you shall be my witnesses Throughout the ends of the earth (2x) Verse 1: Go forth to all the world And tell the Good News Proclaim God's Kingdom has come Through the triumph of His Son Verse 2: The works that I have done You also shall do And still there's more the come For My Spirit rests on you Verse 3: The deaf shall hear My voice The blind shall see The lame shall leap for joy And the captives shall be free End: Throughout the ends of the earth

Brief Outline I. Much of Christianity

today looks weak and is lacking in power and effectiveness.

True Christian living is not just a matter of human will power, but a new heart, a new life from God.

God wants all men to have this new life.

This new life in the Holy Spirit is available to all who receive Jesus as Lord and Savior.

II. What it means to receive the Holy Spirit. This was the experience of the

early disciples at Pentecost. We can experience the same

power and gifts of the Spirit that the early Christians did.

We simply take God up on His promise. We ask our Father to give us the Holy Spirit.

This will not be the initial recep-tion of the Holy Spirit, Whom we already received at bap-tism. Rather, what will be experienced is a fuller release of the power of the Holy Spirit in our lives.

III. Obstacles to receiving God's gifts: an unrepent-ant attitude, feeling unworthy, fear, doubt, pride, being selective.

IV. How to prepare yourself for next week's prayer session.

CLP Talk 8: Life in the Holy Spirit Have an individual meeting with

your facilitator during the week.

Think and pray about the "Commitment to Christ", which we will all pray next week.

Be aware of Satan's action. Call upon Jesus' name.
