Introduction

When God asked Solomon what he wanted Him to give him, Solomon wisely asked for wisdom

so that he could lead God’s people God’s way. He had already learned much from his father King

David, and he already understood the value of Divine wisdom.

In response to his request, and because he did not ask for riches, God gave Solomon a wisdom

that excelled that of any man before or after him (I Kings 3:12). Taking time to learn from this book

will enrich the believing reader immensely, and it will keep on doing so. As you read, it is important

to remember that every word of Scripture is inspired and profitable for spiritual growth (II Timothy

3:16), and that applies to this book as well.

God’s words through Solomon were given as a guide for the believer in every age and are to be

used in conjunction with the rest of the Bible. They can be applied to our lives each day and will

prevent many mistakes, missteps, and often even unnecessary misery if a believer will heed them.

Can you imagine how different your life could be if you as a believer followed God's wisdom

on a daily basis? It is the best possible guidance and instruction! Blessing is promised to those who

do! It is written by our Maker – He designed the blueprints pertaining to everything that concerns

you and me, and He knows what will work in our lives! Its warnings are given to us to enable us to

avoid unnecessary hurt in our lives.

The supernatural wisdom found in Proverbs covers every area of life. When we learn it and

then follow it, you will find that it is able to bring great blessing, guidance for your daily life in your

practices, relationships, and most important, it is able to strengthen your knowledge of and walk

with God.

Proverbs is written for young and old. No matter where you are in life, you will see that it will

add more of God’s wisdom to your mind and life, enabling you to avoid many mistakes. Just as

important is that it will guide you into its promised blessings, and those around you will also benefit

as they see the fruit of God’s wisdom in your life – and desire it, too.

This eBook contains 92 devotionals from Proverbs. Because only a few months have 31 days,

only the first two months contain 31 devotionals each, and the last one only 30. I encourage you to

read one devotional per day, and ask God to help you apply it to your life.

God's Wisdom for Daily Life

Day #1: The Fear of the Lord

Proverbs 1:7 "The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge:

but fools despise wisdom and instruction."

Many times believers miss the spiritual riches that are in the book of Proverbs. There is much in

it, and it really is worth a deep study.

This verse is a good example. It is the key to the whole Book, and many people will glibly

acknowledge its importance, but few seem to really grasp what it means.

Notice that the words "fear of the Lord" is the key here. If you understand what that is, the rest

will easily follow. This phrase, "fear of the Lord" is used several times in Proverbs, and it is always

seen to be more than just an attitude. In fact, it is the key to understanding, to salvation, and to

victory over sin – this really is where it all begins.

It is so important, that without it – you cannot understand God's wisdom, as our text verse says.

The fear of God is a holy hatred of sin and Hell, and a right desire to please God. Once saved, it

manifests itself as a continued hatred of sin and a fear of displeasing God – you want more than

anything for Him to be happy with you and how you live.

When you have this kind of attitude toward God and His Word, God can begin to teach you

about Himself and what the Bible means. The "fear of the Lord" is like the key that opens the door

to a room filled with God's great riches. Without the key, you won’t learn much about Him or get

His great blessings!

Now note that no matter how learned a believer becomes, he or she can still gain wisdom from

God and His Word – even from the Book of Proverbs. It is not just for the young believer. There is

no end to needing a right fear of God, or of His blessing in your life. It works alongside of love for

Him. Love does not replace the fear of the Lord, and vice versa.

Notice what Peter says in the New Testament, in I Peter 2:17: "Honour all men. Love the

brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king." This fear is not a fear of damnation, that is the kind of

fear that love casts out. Rather, Peter is saying that we should have the right kind of respect, or awe,

for God so that our lives, words and actions are obviously affected daily by our relationship to Him.

Application: Do you have a right relationship with God right now? Does it bother you if you don’t?

If not, why not ask Him to help you have a right “fear of God”?

Day #2: Learning About God

Proverbs 2:3-5 "Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for

understanding; If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures;

Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God."



In these verses, Solomon is teaching his son about the importance of seeking and learning true

wisdom. As we read these verses, as well as the rest of Proverbs, we ought to read them as though

we are the son and God Himself is speaking these words directly to us.

Solomon tells his son that a very important factor in being able to find true wisdom is that you

have to really want it. Cry after it, lift up your voice to find it, go after it the same way that a

treasure seeker goes after gold and silver.

During the gold rush in Colorado and California, people forsook all they had out East, bought

horses, supplies, and a wagon and said "California or bust!" There was no turning back, they had no

reserves! They were determined to find gold at any cost! They were willing to risk almost anything

to get there, too, including the distance, the heat and the cold, the snow, the wild Indians, the lack of

supplies, and disease and even death.

What God says is required here – in order to find true Bible knowledge and Divine wisdom – is

that you must deeply hunger and thirst after it. You must go after it with all your heart! Then you

can find it.

Our passage also tells us what you will find when you gain true Bible knowledge. Listen

carefully, because this will surprise some of you. You will learn:

1. The fear of God, and

2. The knowledge of God.

This is the heart of the message of the Bible. It is given so that all people might fear God

correctly, which means that you will first understand your relationship to Him – we are sinners and

we are not like Him. We are condemned and need to be redeemed.

Secondly, the Word of God reveals Him to us. When the first part is understood, then salvation

is possible. The Word of God teaches us, in both the Old and New Testaments, that we learn about

God through Jesus Christ. He is the complete revelation of God to us.

Now, let me apply this. On occasion I meet some people who want to read or study the Bible

just to get answers. Others read it to increase their general knowledge. Some even read so they can

boast of what they know. Our text says that they don't yet know God's kind of wisdom.

When an individual learns the kind of wisdom that God is talking about here in this chapter, it

humbles that person. He or she fears God – they know God is watching, and once saved, they don't

want to lose their sweet fellowship with Him.

You can always tell when a person has learned from God Himself – the Holy Spirit. They are

sensitive, in many ways growing to be more and more like Him. This is God's knowledge – it opens

the eyes, transforms the life, and equips for faithful service.

Application: Let me ask you: Are you reading the Bible to just learn facts about God or to really

meet with God?

God’s Plan of Salvation

It is truly God’s desire that all people be saved. When He wanted to make salvation possible for all people, He sent His Son Jesus Christ to pay the price we owed because of sin. Then He made it so that everyone gets saved the exact same way – through repentance (turning from sin) and faith in Christ’s payment and power alone to save us. Here are five simple steps to Bible salvation:

1. Agree with God that you are a sinner. Ro. 3:23 “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.”

2. Accept God’s declaration that all sinners are condemned and worthy of it. Ro. 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death.”

3. Understand that you cannot save yourself – works are worthless when sin must be paid for. Eph. 2:8,9 “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.”

4. Acknowledge that Christ died to pay for all of your sins, then rose again. Ro. 5:8 "But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us."

5. Believe on Christ only for salvation and ask Him to forgive you, and to be your Lord (“Boss”) and Savior from now on. Ac. 16:31 “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.”

To those who believe on Christ alone to save them, He has promised, in John 3:16:

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
