GODSPELL DIRECTORIAL CONCEPT: Godspell is a series of parables, most of which are based on the Gospel of Matthew; three of the parables featured are only in the Gospel of Luke. The end of the musical covers several events from the passion of Christ. Our production will be a highly interactive theatrical experience. Rooted in Catholic Social Teaching, the Talon Theatre production of GODSPELL will integrate a physical service component during which the audience will have the opportunity to provide physical items for the homeless. The setting is a contemporary homeless encampment. The members of the ensemble will portray members of the homeless community. The talents of the individual cast members will be widely incorporated in the playing of musical instruments. The band will be on stage. $1.00 will be added to the ticket price to be donated to the Illumination Foundation for first/last month’s rent for a homeless family. PRODUCTION DESIGN TEAM OPPORTUNITY: If you are a student in IB Theatre HL 1, HL 2 or SL or are in the Theatre Production Class you have the opportunity to apply to be a Lead Designer for Godspell. Applications are available on the Godspell Web Page. Students who are not in IB Theatre or Theatre Productions MAY be a member of a design team but will not be considered as Lead Designer. The script will be available in June. Read and listen to the music for Godspell 2012. Be sure to explain and support your artistic choices. SET: Concept - a Homeless Encampment. Applicants are required to 1. Research urban homeless encampments and to create a visual "morgue" of inspirational images. 2. Write a one page description of the set concept including color scheme. 3. A ground plan of the stage to scale, thumbnail sketches of the actual set. The band will be incorporated into the set. Please note that the set should be multi purpose and that there needs to be a chain link fence and some visual metaphor to allow for Jesus to symbolize the crucifix. It should NOT be literal. LIGHTS: 1. Sample images of color, angles, patterns 2. Write a one page description of the lighting concept. Please note to pay special attention to the finale during which there will be projections. The concept should explain mood for different scenes and songs. COSTUMES: 1. Contemporary. Each character will be developed by the actor so the designer will need to be involved in rehearsals to understand each actor's character choices. Create a visual morgue of costume ideas for the characters of: Jesus, John/Judas, and ensemble. 2. In Godspell, there must be one item that is used as a symbol for the community coming together. Explain your idea for what this could be. The item is distributed during the show in a ritualistic way. 3. Write a one page concept for costume design. PROJECTIONS:
