president’smessageWow, what a great turn out for the September meeting. Good food and drink; also having an opportunity to network with members. The Secretary of WBA, Gary Roehrig gave a short speech on what WBA is doing for its members. The bottom line is WBA was able to keep some ridiculous legislation out and convinced the Governor to veto other legislation that would make it hard for the small business man to survive in this economy. Check the WBA website and you will see what I am talking about.
Out with the old and in with the new... not really. It was a yearly transfer of leadership. Time to give John Pence a much earned rest and put Jeff Currier in the hot seat.
After Secretary Gary Roehrig swore the new group in, I had the privilege to thank John and his lovely wife Heidi for a wonderful job they did for the association. John worked hard even though he did not show it under that calm exterior. Heidi backed her man with reassurances that she will still have him even after GSHBA rung the life out of him.
Speaking of hot seat, it was fun roasting John at the end of the meeting. Sitting in chair, facing the membership, he took it good stride. John was read his rights before the ribbing.
He had the right to be silent ---- but I didn’t think he would•
He had the right to an attorney --- but we did not give him •one
Anything he said would be used against him and if he said •nothing we would make stuff up
He had the right to leave – but we would drag his sorry butt •back.
With all fun aside and after the closing of the meeting, I started my year with people coming up and offering their suggestions, opinions and complaints. I welcome any ideas that would help GSHBA and streamline the year to come. The door or phone is always open.
I thank all the people who put their trust in me.
Jeff Currier

Sub/Supplier NightFor the 2010 Parade of Homes
October 20, 2009 • The Sky Club
Associate members can showcase their companies’ special Parade discount at the October General Membership cocktail hour & meeting.
One of the biggest challenges associate members face is securing business from Parade builder who are already satisfied with a current vendor. The GSHBA Parade of Homes Committee would like to help associate members start to make more business connections by holding a Parade of Homes Cocktail Hour. We hope to encourage builder members to attend the October meeting.
If you would like to offer a product or service at a special discount for parade participants this is your opportunity to present this information to the builders. You will need to arrive at the Sky club at 5:30 p.m. to set-up your table. Bring brochures, literature, plenty of business cards and information on your special discount for parade participants. You will also have a minute during the program to introduce yourself and explain your special discount program.
You must have a special discount for parade participants to take part in the Parade of Homes Cocktail Hour.
Reservations are a must – mail or fax the office by October 16th.

Prepare for Area Code Relief:Enter 10-Digit Phone Numbers Now
Seven-digit local telephone numbers will soon be a thing of the past. The increasing demand for phone numbers has prompted the need for new area codes and the use of 10-digit calling nationwide. These new area codes impact not only telephone calls but text messaging as well. To ensure that your text message is sent to the correct person, it is recommended that you enter all ten digits of the phone number –regardless if it is a local or long-distance number. During the next few years, the 534 area code will be added to the geographic region currently served by 715, and the 274 area code will be added to the 920 geographic area. This means that you may have a 715 area code, but the phone number for the new business next door may have a 534 area code. New telephone lines in the current 715 area code region may be assigned the 534 area code as soon as August 14, 2010. Mandatory 10-digit calling will begin in the 715 area code region on July 17, 2010. Dates for the new 274 area code in the current 920 geographic area have not yet been determined. Calls that were considered local before the introduction of the new area code will continue to be local calls, and the procedure for placing long-distance calls from landline phones will remain the same (1 + area code + 7-digit telephone number). However, local calls placed without an area code after July 17, 2010, will not be completed. The best way to stay ahead of these changes – and ensure that your calls and messages are received – is to start using all ten digits now. Get into the habit of keying in the area code along with the seven-digit phone number when you program your fax machine, enter a person in the contact list on your wireless phone and print business cards or other materials that include your telephone number. By getting ahead of the game, the change should have little effect when the change is official.
