It is a must-see for all as it shows how we, as a nation, many years ago simply gave away our rights to our own water. That is something other Governments did not do. Look at the Government in Norway, which is an excellent example of how a nation stood up to the super powers; this has led to prosperity in their country. Sadly, Irish Governments lay down and acceded to every request over the last 50 years. They have given away large rights to our seas for our fishermen, while we can look out and see foreign vessels fishing Irish Seas till they will run it dry. Looking at this documentary it is difficult to see how we are going to be able to turn this around, unless we take drastic action. ATLANTIC The new documentary ‘Atlantic’ was screened in Schull last

weekend at the Fastnet Film Festival and really stole the show away. Up

Documentary at Dublin Film Circle Awards.

‘ATLANTIC’ aims to give voice to the communities most impacted by

strained fishing resources and Oil Development in these Atlantic

provinces. As the global giants push the boundaries of risk and

technology to access oil in increasingly difficult places, and international

super-trawlers suck unprecedented amounts of fish from the ocean, this

documentary looks at the impact of these ventures on people and the

environment. Using interviews with industry experts, scientists, oil

employees, fishermen, politicians and ordinary people, ‘Atlantic’

examines both the cost and the benefit of opening up the Atlantic

frontiers.”

The documentary, one hour and twenty minutes long, shows the

unnecessary struggle fishermen are having in this country and shows

the inaction of successive governments down through the years.

It is a must-see for all as it shows how we, as a nation, many years ago

simply gave away our rights to our own water. That is something other

Governments did not do. Look at the Government in Norway, which is

an excellent example of how a nation stood up to the super powers;

this has led to prosperity in their country. Sadly, Irish Governments lay

down and acceded to every request over the last 50 years. They have

given away large rights to our seas for our fishermen, while we can look

Mizen AFC - Mizen travelled to Dunmanway on Sunday evening

and won 5-2. After taking an early lead through a sublime Darren O’Donovan chip, Mizen found themselves 2-1 down at the start of the 2nd half. Soon after, Mizen's star man, Shane O’Mahony turned the game on its head with a quick fire double and another Darren goal in between made it 4-2 to Mizen! Gerald O’Callaghan wrapped up the scoring with his 16th goal of the season! Great performance from all the lads, Dunmanway's defence will be grateful they won't have to face the mighty Shane O’Mahony again this season! Last league fixture this Sunday, a

must win game against Bunratty, with kick off at 2.30 in Schull. The Star Wars production may have left but they haven't forgotten us.

Lucasfilm have taken an ad out, in the Irish Examiner this week, thanking the people of Crookhaven, Goleen, and the Brow Head peninsula in West Cork for their hospitality during their time filming there.

“Lucasfilm and the Cast and Crew of the 8th instalment of the Star Wars saga would like to thank the people of Crookhaven, Goleen and the Brow Head Peninsula for the warm welcome

we have received throughout our location shoot here in West Cork.

We have been captivated by the landscape of the Wild Atlantic Way, it has provided a spectacular backdrop for our story.

The tireless commitment of our Irish crew, the enthusiasm and support of all the people of West Cork have made our

Irish adventure one we will always treasure.

“Go mbeidh an fórsa leat! - May the force be with you!”

The people of the Mizen Peninsula would, in turn, thank you for this kind message, your custom and also the excitement your visit created.

We hope that this area of West Cork and its inhabitants will always have a special place in the hearts of crew and cast alike.

We hope to see you all again soon!

SCC levels of below 100,000cells/ml over the last five years. They claimed

the top prize following an assessment of the performance of thirteen

shortlisted dairy farms from all parts of the country. Milk quality is

extremely important to the O’Sullivan family: “We are producing a food product here and we put the quality of the milk we produce on our farm as

the number one priority. That is why the milking of the cows and the

washing of the milking parlour inside and out is the most important job we do every day.” This attention to milk quality has meant that the farm has

previously won the Drinagh Milk Quality Awards and the Carbery Milk

Quality Awards.

Billy Kelleher, Regional Advisory Manager, Teagasc, said that the farm walk

will allow dairy farm families see at first-hand the types of achievable steps which can raise quality standards and which can help to maintain those

standards throughout the year. Many other farmers can learn from the O’Sullivans’ experiences in relation to milk quality; they use the available

information to make the right decisions and carry out the recommended

actions correctly.

Zoë Kavanagh, Chief Executive NDC highlighted the role of the NDC &

Kerrygold Quality Milk Awards in raising standards: “Through this award programme we see the passion for progressing and learning the newest and

best way of doing things; combined with a heartfelt wish to take care of,

and develop the farm, so that it can be passed on to the next generation with care and pride.”

Seamus Daly, Drinagh Co-op, “We are delighted that the ‘Sam Maguire’ of milk quality awards has been won by a Drinagh Co-op supplier and that the

O’Sullivan family has made their farm available for this farm walk.”

The importance of milk quality to Ornua (formerly Irish Dairy Board) was underlined by Kerrygold: “Irish dairy farming is the best in the world, not

only because of our natural grass based production system, but also

because our farmers, down through generations, generously share their knowledge and continuously improve standards in the industry and in their

communities. This Farm Walk generously hosted by the O’Sullivan family is

a perfect example of our farming community’s appetite to share knowledge and help one another. We look forward to welcoming a big crowd to West

Cork in June,” said Jeanne Kelly, Kerrygold spokesperson.
