Golf Course Maintenance Monthly Report
May 2016 Prepared By,
Superintendent, Dylan Knight
2 | P a g e
Summary of works
The month of May started with some wild weather and much welcomed rain, this
unfortunately left us with a high percentage of bunkers requiring to be re-built. As normal
the team pulled together and managed to complete all greenside bunkers in three days an
exceptional job for a small crew.
By months end we have had 70.5mm of rain some 15mm above average and certainly
enough for the present time. With the heavy rainfall greens received a deep aeration to aid in
water penetration to enable us to keep greens as firm as possible at this time of year.
The weather was still kind enough to allow us to verti-cut and dust greens twice this month,
with the continued use of growth regulators and our dusting program we are starting to see a
lot more consistency for our entire greens complexes.
We have also been able to begin spraying poa annua out of our couch surfaces in preparation
for next growing season. This is the first season for this new program and we are aiming for
an 80% reduction in poa for next season which we can then hopefully spot spray.
The photos below show the before and after works performed on the storm water inlet drain
on the 4th. This is the very first stage of numerous projects to be conducted to enhance the
clubs future around our ever growing water issues. I must give a big thank you to Ivan Verkic
from KAYCEE EXCAVATIONS who performed these works free of charge for the club.

Executive summary
Majority of our fairway surfaces have reached saturation point due to the high rainfall received and lower evaporation during the cooler months. The result of this is surface water which effects golf carts on course and WILL result in golf carts being restricted in these periods. This is for the benefit of the course. We will also begin to see some frost over the next few months so please be aware that there will be some frost delays in place and again this is only for the best interest for the course. All surfaces are holding up well heading into winter and once applications for poa control have ceased we will be able to fire up our winter tree works and tee tombstone refurbishment. Kind Regards, Dylan Knight Superintendent Sanctuary Lakes Golf Club Programmed Turnpoint Pty Ltd.
