Welcome to Gonzaga We are a comprehensive regional university in Spokane, Wash. Located on the north shore of the Spokane River, Gonzaga is dedicated to its Jesuit, Catholic and humanistic roots, educating the mind, body and spirit to create women and men for others. By thinking critically and acting justly students are encouraged to embody the Ignatian ideals of faith, justice, service, ethics and leadership. www.gonzaga.edu

Academics Gonzaga offers six undergraduate degrees in 53 majors, 20 master’s degrees, one juris doctorate and one Ph.D. The University boasts a College of Arts and Sciences and five other schools: Business, Education, Engineering and Applied Science, Law and Professional Studies. Student LifeAsk students about their experience at Gonzaga, and their answer will include the word ‘community’. Life at Gonzaga is knit together tightly by activities that focus on a positive human spirit, from daily Masses to weekly coffee houses, from floating the river to a myriad of intramural sports, from service work to neighborhood parties, theater performances and Bulldog basketball games. At Gonzaga, everyone counts. www.gonzaga.edu/student-life

“Being a Zag is like having a second family. I’ve never had a better community where I fit in so well. I love walking around campus and saying hi to everyone and getting a smile and a ‘hi’ back. You live for this

family atmosphere; the faculty care about you and so do the students. It’s great to be a Zag, and Spokane loves the Zags.”

Justin Tai, senior, Kennel Club president, accounting major

Campus LivingResidence halls offer students options for all-male, all-female or co-ed living experiences, with genders usually separated by floors or wings. Most rooms are doubles, with a few single and triple options. Hall sizes range from 40 to over 300 residents. Residence halls are equipped with laundry facilities, basic cable service, Internet service, in-room local telephone service, and television lounge areas. Gonzaga’s apartment complexes offer students full kitchen amenities.

Campus DiningThe Marketplace is Gonzaga’s primary dining hall. Students also may use their meal pass at any of the campus dining options: Marketplace Express in the Globe Room of Cataldo Hall (open weekdays for lunch), Panda Express, also in Cataldo Hall (Chinese fare), Sub-Connection in the lower COG, Spike’s in the lower COG (open 24 hours on Friday and Saturday), and Iggy’s Pizza Pie (named for St. Ignatius Loyola, founder of the Society of Jesus, campus pizza delivery…It’s a spiritual experience!). A new feature in Spike’s is Freshen’s frozen yogurt. Coffee stations dot the campus.

What it Means to be JesuitThe Society of Jesus was founded 470 years ago as an order of Catholic priests and brothers with an emphasis on education and mission work. The genius of the Jesuit educational tradition lies in these characteristics: a love of learning, faith that does justice, personal care for the individual, active learning, appreciation of culture, gratitude, specialized learning balanced with the liberal arts and development of the whole person. www.gonzaga.edu/about/missionandministry

GU students volunteer more than 100,000 hours annually. Businesses, non-profit institutions, courts and other government offices benefit from Gonzaga interns, researchers and student assistants. SpokaneNear Nature, Near Perfect is the city’s slogan, and Gonzaga students find their home here quite charming. With 76 lakes, five skiing areas, 20 golf courses and three major shopping malls within a short drive of campus, what’s not to like? Paint ball, laser tag, bowling and rock climbing options abound. Multiple music venues, live theater and Broadway plays, Spokane Symphony and three professional sports teams (Spokane Shock arena football, Spokane Chiefs hockey and Spokane Indians baseball) add a lively spirit to the mix. The city’s population is about 200,000, and the Greater Spokane area encompasses about 450,000 people. This translates to big city conveniences without the congestion. www.visitspokane.com
