11th September 2020 Extreme Reading Challenge Thank you for all the wonderful entries into the Extreme Reading Challenge! We had some interesting and unusual locations for reading from the inside of a suitcase to a top of a mountain and even on a horse! After much deliberation, we simply could not decide on an overall winner; the entries were all excellent! A big well done to everyone who sent in a photo. Look out for our next Literacy competition coming soon! Please keep an eye out for our new OMS Reading Newsletter! This half terms can be found on our website! Good Afternoon A big well done to OMS pupils who are settling back into school and have now completed a full week of their new timetable. We are very impressed with how keen and focused they are; it’s as if they’ve never been away! We have made some slight changes to our behaviour monitoring system and are very much focused on promoting positive behaviour both inside and outside the classroom which is acknowledged and awarded with house points. Pupils are now familiar with the process we have adopted of ‘opportunities’ which are issued to assist pupils in modifying their behaviour when necessary. These will be recorded in your child’s planner and parents will be contacted if three opportunities are issued. In total, an amazing number of house points have been given out so far which reflects the fabulous and focused atmosphere of learning in the classroom. We are following the news carefully and acting on updated guidance in terms of safety and routines in school and know that some local schools have already had partial closures in response to cases of coronavirus. Whilst we hope that we will remain open we have to accept that there may be a possibility that we also face a partial closure. To help us plan for this please complete the survey sent out so we can assess pupils’ ability to access home learning. Can parents please be reminded that it is very important to make sure your child follows the yellow paths and not cut across the car park at any time. Even more of our pupils are travelling to school by bike and we had our first bike bus from Wylam today! Thanks so much to the parents from Wylam who have co-ordinated this. There couldn’t be a better way to start the day! Mr Addyman is currently looking into introducing the bikeability programme in school to increase pupils’ road and safety awareness; look out for more details over the next few weeks. We have also purchased some more bike racks to keep up with the demand. A lovely and, hopefully sunny weekend to you all. Inspired by our cyclists, I will be heading out on my bike! Mrs Bullock For pupils currently in the Food Studies classes, next week we will be cooking..... Thursday 17th Sept - Year 8 - Spicy tomato soup Year 5 - Rainbow salad Friday 18th Sept - Year 7 - Fish and veg stack Year 6- Stuffed pepper Please could pupils remember to bring in a clean apron! Thank you! Mrs Kidd

Reminders

Can all pupils remember to come into school with the full, correct equipment,

including a reading book as our library is not open, as

and can parents please remember to sign home-work diaries weekly. It

would also be very helpful if pupils names were in all items uniform and water

bottles.

Thank you!

‘Thought of the Week’

Keep up the good work Lilly!

Another huge Hi5 to Darcie in Year 5!
