Narrator !The Passion Of Our Lord According To John.
Then Pilate took Jesus and scourged him. And the soldiers
plaited a crown of thorns, and put it on his head, and
arrayed him in a purple robe; they came up to Jesus saying,
Hail, King of the Jews! and struck him with their hands.
Pilate went out again, and said to them, See, I am brining
him out to you, that you may know that I find no crime in
him. So Jesus came out, wearing the crown of thorns and
the purple robe. Pilate said to them, Behold the man!
When the chief priests and the officers saw him, they cried
out, Crucify him, crucify him! Pilate said to them, Take
him yourselves and crucify him, for I find no crime in him.
The people answered him, We have a law, and by that law
he ought to die, because he has made himself the Son of
God. When Pilate heard these words, he was the more
afraid; he entered the praetorium again and said to Jesus,Where are you from? But Jesus gave no answer. Pilate
therefore said to him, You will not speak to me? Do you
know that I have the power to release you, and the power to
crucify you?

32/44
Good Friday 2007 32 of 44 rev. 7/12/07
Upon this Pilate sought to release him, but the people cried
out, If you release this man, you are not Caesars friend;
every one who makes himself a king sets himself against
Caesar. When Pilate heard these words, he brought Jesus
out and sat down on the judgment seat at the place calledThe Pavement, and in Hebrew, Gabbatha. Now it was the
day of Preparation of the Passover; it was about the sixth
hour. He said to the people, Behold your king! They cried
out, Away with him, away with him, crucify him! Pilate
said to them, Shall I crucify your king? The chief priests
answered, We have no king but Caesar. Then Pilate
handed Jesus over to them to be crucified.
So they took Jesus, and he went out, bearing his own cross,
to the place called the place of a skull, which is called in
Hebrew Golgotha. There they crucified him, and with two
others, one on either side, and Jesus between them. Pilate
also wrote a title and put it on the cross; it read, Jesus of
Nazareth, the King of the Jews. Many of the people read
this title, for the place where Jesus was crucified was near
the city; and it was written in Hebrew, in Latin, and inGreek. The chief priests of the Jewish people then said to
Pilate, Do not write, The King of the Jews, but, this man
said, I am King of the Jews. Pilate answered, What I have
written I have written.
When the soldiers had crucified Jesus they took his
garments and made four parts, one for each soldier; also the
tunic. But his tunic was without seam, woven from top tobottom; so they said to one another, Let us not tear it, but
cast lots for it to see whose it shall be. This was to fulfill the
scripture, They parted my garments among them, and for
my clothing they cast lots. So the soldiers did this.

Good Friday 2007 33 of 44 rev. 7/12/07
But standing by the cross of Jesus were his mother, and his
mothers sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary
Magdalene. When Jesus saw his mother, and the disciple
whom he loved standing near:
And from that hour the disciple took her to his own home.
After this, Jesus, knowing that all was now finished, said:
A bowl of vinegar stood there; so they put a sponge full of
vinegar on hyssop and held it to his mouth. Having received
the vinegar:
And he bowed his head and gave over the spirit.
All bow for a time towards Gospel, and wait for singers to startsinging again.
Since it was the day of Preparation, in order to prevent thebodies from remaining on the cross on the sabbath (for that
sabbath was a high day) the people asked Pilate that their
legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away. So
the soldiers came and broke the legs of the first, and of the
other who had been crucified with him; but when they came

to Jesus and saw that he was already dead, they did not
break his legs. But one of the soldiers pierced his side with a
spear, and at once there came out blood and water. He who
saw it, whose testimony is true, and who knows that he tells
the truth, has borne witness that you may also believe. Forthese things took place that the scripture might be fulfilled,
Not a bone of him shall be broken. And again another
scripture says, They shall look to the one whom they have
pierced.

CUE: be read to read at: O Giver Of Life, Christ Our God,Glory To You
Deacon B Hear a reading from the prophet Ezekiel.
Reading: Ezekiel 37:114
Reader 7 The hand of Yahweh was on me; I was carried away by the
spirit of Yahweh, who set me down in the middle of the
valley, a valley full of bones. Yahweh made me walk up and
down and all around among them. There were vast
quantities of these bones on the floor of the valley; and theywere completely dry. Yahweh said to me, O mortal, can
these bones live? I said, You know, Lord Yahweh. God
said, Prophesy over these bones. Say, Dry bones, hear the
word of Yahweh. The Lord Yahweh says this to these bones:
I am now going to make breath enter you, and you will live.
I shall put sinews on you, I shall make flesh grow on you, I
shall cover you with skin and give you breath, and you will
live; and you will know that I am Yahweh.
I prophesied as I had been ordered. While I was
prophesying, there was a noise, a clattering sound; it was
the bones coming together. And as I looked, they were
covered with sinews; flesh was growing on them and skin
was covering them, yet there was no breath in them.
Yahweh said to me, Prophesy to the breath; prophesy, Omortal. Say to the breath, The Lord Yahweh says this: Come
from the four winds, breath; breathe on these dead, so that
they come to life!
I prophesied as Yahweh had ordered me, and the breath
entered them; they came to life and stood up on their feet, a

great, an immense army. Then Yahweh said, O mortal,
these bones are the whole House of Israel. They keep saying,
Our bones are dry, our hope has gone; we are done for. So,
prophesy. Say to them, The Lord Yahweh says this: I am
now going to open your graves; I shall raise you from yourgraves, my people, and lead you back to the soil of Israel.
And you will know that I am Yahweh, when I open your
graves and raise you from your graves, my people, and put
my spirit in you, and you revive,
and I resettle you on your own soil. Then you will know that
I, Yahweh, have spoken and done this, declares the Lord
Yahweh.Assisting Presbyter 7 stands at the Altar Table and sings
Presbyter 7!O God, Creator of heaven and earth
as the crucified body of your dear Son
was laid in the tomb and rested on this holy Sabbath,
sanctifying the grave to be a bed of hope
for your people,
grant that we may await with him
the coming of the third day,
and rise with him to newness of life;
who now lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one
God, for ever and ever.
