Good morning!
2 more days of home learning this week Hedgehogs and Otters!
Today we will continue reading The Weather Monster and answer a few more questions about it, in English we
will be planning your diary entry tomorrow when you ‘become’ Lila! You will be mind mapping Lila’s thoughts
and feelings.
In maths we are continuing with ‘addition and subtraction’ and today’s lesson focuses on using counting on to
add to 20.
In Geography we will continue to learn about
different types of extreme weather.
In Computing we will be creating an algorithm
to move a Blue-bot using the Blue-bot app.

Handwriting
In today’s English lesson you will recap how to use the
past tense because that will help you write your diary
entry in role as Lila tomorrow. You will also mind
map Lila’s thoughts and feelings so you can plan
your diary entry!
English:This week in
English we will
be reading Lila
and the Secret
of Rain. We
will get in role
as Lila and
write a diary
entry towards
the end of the
week!
We will be writing a diary entry tomorrow in role
as Lila!
We know that we must write in past tense when
writing a diary entry so let’s do some work on the
past tense first.
Thursday 2nd April 2020
LO: To be able to write in role
Context: Planning for diary entry in role as Lila: Lila and the Secret of Rain.
Success Criteria:
I can order and sequence events
I can list a range of feelings and emotions
The past tense is used when something has already happened. We use
the past tense when we are retelling events or experiences.

Change these verbs into the past tense:
We clean the classroom.
I show him the sights.
I talk on the phone.
We play football.
Some verbs don’t follow the Uncle Ed rule when you change them into the past tense.
These verbs are irregular or tricky in the past tense.

The sun still
shone and
Lila cried.
It started
to rain.
The village

Maths:This week in
Maths we will
be continuing
with our unit
‘Addition and
Subtraction’.
Parent notes: The first slide is ‘retrieval practice’ this is
revision of children’s prior learning. The should be
encouraged to complete this independently however some
pupils may need additional support. Following this, please
complete some counting practice using the Youtube
videos and 100 squares provided. Each lesson will have a learning objective, some teaching content and then an
activity for children to complete. On some occasions it may
be beneficial for layout purposes to print the slides however
activities could be completed in a book/on paper.
There will also be directed activities on Mathletics – we will
keep checking your homework and reassigning tasks to help
you improve your scores!

2.4.2020 Daily Counting Practise
•Count in 2s and colour each one on the hundred square.
•What do you notice?
•Use this to help you count backwards/forwards to 100 in 2s.
•Challenge yourself – cover some up and try again!
Show me the sign for add.
What happens to the numbers when I add?
If I was to add using my number line. Which way would I jump?
We can add by counting on.
We count forwards on our number line because the numbers get bigger.
I have 7 cookies.
I make 6 more.How many do I have altogether?
7 + 6 = _____
1. Start at the biggest number.2. Jump/count on the number you are adding.
000

5 + 8 = ____ Where do I start?
Which direction do I jump?

Computing Note to parents: please download the Blue-bot
app for free from the app store on a tablet.
1. Open app. Tap X to close the
finding Blue-bot window.
2. Choose Explore Mode.
3. Tap Basic Programming.
4. Choose the 3D shapes grid.
Remember to turn the pencil on to
help see your route!
ComputingProgramme the Blue-bot to move:
1. From the red sphere to the blue sphere.
2. From the green cube to the blue cone.
3. From the yellow cuboid to the red cylinder.
Challenge:
1. From the red sphere to the blue sphere. You must pass the yellow cuboid.
2. From the green cube to the blue cone. You must not pass the blue cylinder.
Try to create an algorithm that gets your Blue-bot there in the
shortest route and no wrong turns!
GeographyToday in Geography, we would like you use the internet to research different types of
extreme weather – flooding, blizzard, hurricane, heatwave and gale. We know some of you may have done some research on this last week and made a fact file; if so, what else can
you find out?
Geography
Match the extreme weather with the description.
Flooding Blizzard Hurricane
Heatwave Gale
A very, very
strong wind.An overflow
of a large
amount of
water.
A large
storm with
very violent
winds.
A severe
(very bad)
snowstorm
with high
winds.
Very hot
weather for
many days
in a row.
Geography Can you choose an extreme weather event and perform a weather
forecast for it to an adult or sibling at home?
Make sure you include some safety information for listeners!
Miss Steer’s example:
Blizzard
An extreme weather warning is in place
for London today because of reports of a
blizzard. There is already snow that is
taller than most Year 1 children! There is
also lots of heavy wind and rain.
Stay inside and do not drive
because it is dangerous, the
roads are too icy.
Wow, you’re finished, what great learning – we
bet you’re exhausted
now!
Good job Otters, good job Hedgehogs!
